It’s only a poor one because moves that exist solely to be in a combo are far from useless.
In fact i can think of nearly no move that can exclusively be used in combos. And a move is only bad or useless if it deal you damage and it leaves you at disadvantage on hit simultaneously.
we don’t play on a professional level. Even there, there sometimes is the element of surprise, even if its not used, there is literally now a strategy presenting itself of that move being so under used and understudied you have a tool the opponent doesn’t quite get how to react to because you’ve thought of the most viable way to use it at an unexpected time)
The only move type that is combo only are the parts of a rekka after the first (and for someone like litchi, even thats false).
Something is only deemed in higher value to something else when there actually is something else.
If a character has one move, nothing they have will technically be better. Is disruptor a better projectile then a good number in marvel? Yes. Does that mean that those other ones should not exist as a result?
Just because i threw a terrible arthur move out there (who is a mess not because of moves that are terrible, but mainly things terrible because he was designed in a bubble, as if the people who had him in mind hadn’t been in contact with the team of the rest of the cast) doesn’t mean “OH GOD THIS MOVE SHOULDN’T BE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET” it should more be "wow this move has very limited uses but hey, i can think of x when i can use it, and that alone is enough for it not to bog my character down.
The only moves that are “useless” are ones that literally do nothing. Even deadpools bonked teleport can be used in combos.
I understand where you are coming from, but the solution isn’t giving less options, its giving more or altering the ones there.
Bayonetta is really good, all the people in the threads for the game claim that she’s exceptionally broken, but it just isn’t true.
And I’ll probably wait until you guys actually play it before I start explaining stuff.
