UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

I think the actual problem with Gene is he’s actually TOO obscure, and he lacks any real unified theme, he’s just kind of all over the place.

He’s bald, what more do you want? :sunglasses:

Seriously, though, Sigma would be an awesome addition to the game as a Capcom villain. While I think his X1 form would be a solid pick, a couple others (X3, X4 sans cloak, X7, X8) could make for solid movesets give or take some additions here and there. X1’s probably the most iconic out of the bunch, though, and there’s a lot he could do in that first form alone. Heck, it’d be awesome if he could call Velgauder a la TVC Casshan’s Friender Call and have him perform an action. Gameplay aside, Sigma’s pretty awesome as a villain in terms of attitude alone. I dunno, I can’t really picture a better MM villian for UMvC3 besides him and maybe Bass.EXE (who isn’t truly a villain at heart).

I thought about Vile as a possibility too, but in his case it really would be an issue of him being a strict zoning character. The dude has tons of different projectiles for different situations such as bombs, shoulder cannons, and various other shots. Unless they found a way to work the ride armor system into the game, it just wouldn’t work since his position would be usurped by Arthur and Hawkeye.

Perhaps no more silly than a lot of 90s-oriented Marvel voting in the face of clear behavior by Marvel that they don’t care about such sentiments; some people vote this way for lack of information on newer Marvel product, storylines, and characters. Having not played God Hand, much as many people haven’t played Breath of Fire 2 to understand why I like Nina so much (which I’ve tried to remedy by offering an information packet on her in my signature), I lacked information on Gene and was going on what those more familiar than I with both Iron Fist and Gene were suggesting to me. Once other information was provided, I began to suspect those I spoke with beforehand were presenting to me a fairly dismissive view of Gene relative to Iron Fist.

In any case, that response could have done without the “c’mon man”, but even without that you’re still a little late. Rather than being disparaging, other Gene supporters gave me some good starting points in researching the character. Once I did so, my mind began assembling basic ‘prototypes’ of how Gene might play in UMvC3 and I liked what I ‘saw.’ All of this within a page and a half; the thread isn’t so long as to be burdensome to read at this point.

The end result is that I will be keeping a close eye on Iron Fist’s reveal video. If Iron Fist does not manage to render my mental prototypes irrelevant, then there is a very high chance I’ll vote for Gene in any run-off poll Capcom Unity does; they ran a similar run-off poll last time around, and I suspect they’ll do one for the UMvC3 voting too. Rather than being hostile and disbelieving, others like Mr. X answered my inquiries, gave me a starting point to do research, and I came away liking what Gene has to offer. I appreciate their input, as it has shown me there is indeed plenty of room for Gene and Iron Fist to be different. If Iron Fist doesn’t match what I expect Gene would be like, Gene will have my support.

It wasn’t my intention to sound like that
I was only laughing,it seemed like a fact that Psylocke never reached the top 20/30. At least in GF, CU, NG and here she had many votes.

Well, that’s cool. I was like, “Wait, why is True Order acting like I’m amazingly wrong on this?” I go to re-check my sources, hit F5… suddenly discover I’d been going on like month-old data and Psylocke’s vote count is indeed much higher than I thought in many polls. SRK is still an oddity in how high she is, but she does orders of magnitude better than I originally thought in many polls. Thank you for pointing out the mistake, hopefully there is no harm done and I have corrected that in the original post.

If you want a T-Rex, then look no further than Hauzer. He’s a dragon AND a T-Rex rolled into one. I’d post a picture if I wasn’t on an iPhone. He wouldn’t do well in this game, though.

Speaking of Red Earth, I still think Tessa would be a good addition, both character and moveset-wise, and I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks so even if it’s a comparatively small portion of the fanbase. She wouldn’t be CvS Chaos-levels of broken, but I think her moveset could translate well into this game: keepaway options with decent close-quarters capabilities, nit too slow, crossups, good grab, etc. Besides, her magic is of a different brand than Strange’s, and I feel her style of aloofness/socially-awkward kindness and intelligence fits right in.

If I knew who Gamora was before I voted, I would’ve picked her as my third Marvel vote :[

I kinda wish I voted for Namor of Panther. But, whatever.

Jin vote is all about his taunt, great troll material, and a decent anti air assist in MvC2.

I feel bad for anyone who voted Cable, I do think a lot of them would expect AHVBx3. Hell people are already expecting that of Rocket Raccoon.

Cable also ties into the anti-air assist heavy voting, along with CapCom, Psylocke and Cyclops.

Unfortunately, it looks like Juggernaut will probably not make it into DLC, if most other votes pan out like this one. Unstoppable Colossus would be a fine replacement though

Put Jin and Asura in MVC3. Fuck all this noise about “nostalgia” and “for the good of the company” all that shit. Awesome characters need to be in my game, I couldn’t give two shits about not being relevant or the game not being out.

lol…Psylocke AA wasnt really an AA assist, it was the buffer to Magneto/Storm touch of death combos.

One person says something then 20 people hit the ground running with the same statement. Psylocke was never used as an anti-air, it was gustav fire with hard knockdown. Thats why it was so godlike.

I wanted Cable, I did not expect him to have AHVBx3 if he did make it in, (maybe 2 =P). I just wanted him because I love that character, I’m old school, watched the 90’s X-Men cartoon as a kid and always loved when Cable was on an episode. One thing MOST don’t deny is the graphic style of MvC3 is pretty dope. I like it alot and I think Cable in that environment would look badass as fuck! So it’s not just nostalgia feel of MvC2 characters or him bein OP for me wanting him in but just based on the fact that he’s an awesome character. If not Cable I would not of minded them to put Bishop either. But oh well the list is out and we know the 12 and they all seem rather cool so I’m not angry, maybe just a little disappointed but I will deal with it.

Who knows… I mean Nitsuma has said he wanted 58 characters in the ultimate but due to time restraints they couldn’t get that many so I mean we now know Capcom will update games constantly so I’m pretty sure if ultimate does well which I’m sure it will they might get those 8 more characters in somehow…

Is it really that hard?

Just stick with his MMX/MMMHX or MMX8 form.

Weapon changes, teleports, wall dives/dashes for rushdown.

Laser and energy bolts of doom for some zoning tools

Besides that he’s a virus, you can get REAL creative with that.

Even my mind did some of that:

Ah the joys of reposting an old post :wgrin:

Also, my view on the Poll results:

MARVEL (pretty hard to discuss overall since Marvel runs what they want with movie tie-ins etc.)

Psylocke
I can’t really deny her charm and the fact that Marvel’s side could use some more females.
In terms of nostalgia movesets, I don’t think that’s gonna fly since she has different powers these days, but that doesn’t mean she can’t make it in.
One things for sure; SRK loves Psylocke.

Gambit:
Popular over all the different boards, although his current status with Marvel makes me think twice. With them being all over movie tie-ins and what’s hot in the comics atm

Ms. Marvel:
A regular in the comics these days and a female, has a good shot imho.

Venom (Eddy Brock):
This one hurt my head when managing the poll, since the 1st version of Venom hasn’t existed for years, the symbiote had multiple hosts in the meantime.
Logical choice would be Anti-Venom, but I have no idea how relevant he is these days.

Cyclops:
Never been a big fan, but he IS the X-Men… then again… we have enough X-Men as it is…

Dr. Octopus:
This made it so high because he was leftover data in vanilla (along side Frank West).
The Spiderman universe is poorly represented as it is, so an iconic villian wouldn’t hurt at all.

Thanos:
Avenger movie tie in? Relevant in the comics atm, fits the galactic bill.
Just give him a revamped moveset and he’s good to go in my book.

Carnage:
See Doc Ock sans the data part.

Rogue:
I’m not feeling this one, I prefer Ms. Marvel over her since she’s pretty much the same.
And I have no idea what current age Rogue is like.

Blade:
This one is intresting to me, sure the sword user/trenchcoat wearer are already overpopulated.
But this is a half man / half vampire that hunts vampires, creativity can go miles here.

CAPCOM

Megaman X:
No suprises here in terms in popularity and a potential moneymaker.
My big question is how do you want to work him out as a gameplay character?
Classic Megaman was a bit of a let down to me (A dragon punch? Oh come on)
If he makes it he would be pretty projectile heavy (easpecially if he uses collected boss powers from the game)
Things would be more intresting if he would be able to chance armors (costing bar ofc)
I’m still on the fence on this one.

Gene:
Gene would easily fit the crazy gameplay style, not much to discuss here, I think he has a good shot.

Sigma:
My litte love child, this guy could have so much potential in a game like this.
He has enough stuff from the original games to make a fun moveset add up the fact that you can be really creative with the fact that he’s a virus (see my earlier post) and you have yourself a winner.

Another Capcom villian wouldn’t hurt at all.
Captain Commando:
I really, REALLY understand the nostalgia trip but to be honest;
Dante’s Jam session is pretty much Captain Corridor on paper.
And how relevant is CapCom in terms of popularity… not as big as Strider.
How many games/remakes have we seen this guy (besides MvC)?
Just “Captain Commando”

Jin Saotome:
Somewhat similiar to CC, picturing from Capcom’s marketing perspective.
Does mainstream actually know that he’s originally from Cyberbots and not MvC?
I’m not hating here, just trying to make a valid discussion point.

M. Bison (Dictator):
Imho he should have been in over C. Viper and Akuma in vanilla.
But since we already have 4 SF chars, just save him for SFxT

Asura:
This pick is pretty intresting, Asura Wrath isn’t even released yet.
It could be a good marketing stunt.
In terms of gameplay and moveset Asura could offer a lot.

Juri:
Not feeling this at all, save her for SFxT, she would fare much better in such an enviroment.

Ryu/Nina (BOF):
BOF fans had a pretty strong voice.
I admit I am very unfamiliar with BOF, the fact that Ryu is named Ryu is prolly enough reason for him to not be in the game, even though he could offer enough unique stuff.
Nina on the other hand would be a problem at all.
The big question is, how relevant is BOF to Capcom these days

Cammy/Roll:
I see people panicking, but these are characters that got BELOW 20 votes.
The quantity drops pretty hard the lower you go in the ranking.
(Not too mention the HUGE amount of one/two character votes)

With the array of weapons he has I’m picturing him as being some kind of offensive trap character, if that makes sense. Health Draining super too please.

Having played cyberbots, I just wanted to chime in that a lot of the things people like about Jin’s design began in Marvel anyway. His character was pretty cool to begin with but the style of his moveset that they created for him in MVC was awesome.

Now that I’ve thought about it a little more, the current Venom (Flash Thompson) would be a pretty fun character. Make a hybrid of Chris’ gun moves and Spider-Man’s mobility and you’d have a quick zoning character with a bunch of projectiles.

I also thought about the majority of Capcom votes. Other than the obligatory MM and Gene votes, most of the chosen characters are pretty terrible. Looking at MvC3s playstyle, which is very OTG friendly, Jin, CapCom, and Dictator wouldn’t have many options outside of some major move property changes and supers.

We need more Capcom antagonists.I’m looking at you, Gill…

No more teleport characters. Vergil you are enough.

Whenever somebody says “I’m oldschool, like the '90s cartoon” an angel’s wings fall off.

Thats when they started to get cool tho.

But but but xesaie, Professor X was THE best X-men of all time! He’d have the best move set ever!
