UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

Ya, if they put in Gene, i hope he is like a super silly slapstick character but is superrrr powerful too XD!

Jocelot is pleased that people voted for Cyclops and Gene of GodHand fame. Jocelot is also pleased that people want Ms. Marvel.

Jocelot is also suprised that Asura made it so far despite his game not even being out yet. This intrigues Jocelot.

Mr. X: Thank you for showing me this video. While it wasn’t enough on its own to convince me, it was a good start and I checked out some of the related videos. Now I understand why some others in this thread were comparing him to Kenshiro. At this point, I am provisionally convinced. If Capcom-Unity runs a secondary poll like they did last time, and I have voting slots left over after tending to my major concerns (which are mostly Nina, Ryu-BoF, and Chuck Greene if he even shows up in the run-off poll at all), then I’ll probably give one of them to Gene provided that Iron Fist does not duplicate what I would expect out of Gene. While I am not immediately a fan of him, I do believe Gene could be a good addition to the roster. So if I see room for Gene to co-exist with him and have some voting slots left over, Gene now has my support. I’ll be keeping a very close eye on Iron Fist’s reveal video, thus.

Before I start this I would like to state that this is my opinion based on what I do for a living, (Sales and Marketing) Also from what I would personally like to see in the game and think others would enjoy. That being said here we go.

1. Psylocke 105 votes
Horrible choice based on current role in marvel books and current direction of the company. Personally I think she brings nothing of any value play style or aesthetic value (besides being a woman) to the game.
2. Gambit 100 votes
He currently has a very laughable role in the marvel comics community and as such would be a poor choice for marvel. Game Play wise I actually really liked gambit and think it would be fun to have him in the game as a character.
3. Ms. Marvel 85 votes
Anyone saying she would play like rouge probably has no idea what Ms Danvers is capable of. From a business standpoint it would be a good decision for marvel seeing as they are pushing the avengers and she will have a larger role in Avengers Earths mightiest heroes season 2.
4. Venom (Eddie Brock) 70 votes
The original character is dead in continuity so I don’t get this vote at all. Bad decision for Marvel or for Capcom really. I did however like his moves set.
5. Cyclops 69 votes
Another wasted vote, Cyclops has a larger role in the books than gambit and psylocke do currently but hes another shoto with a beam. Marvel already said no to him being included in the cast. Waste of votes.
6. Dr. Octopus 53 votes
This I would really like to see. Spider Man has no villain representative so its pretty logical for marvel if they want to push the character. As far as in game mechanics I think he could have a completely unique play style and offer something different and unique.
7. Thanos 52 votes
My favorite marvel character so I am a bit biased on this one. Logically its a smart move for marvel. The Thanos imperative was their highest selling book series in the last 3 years. He is rumored to be in the new avengers movie but he is in the new avengers cartoon series 2. From Capcoms point of view it is a horrible choice. He would have to completely be reworked from the ground up because lets face it his move set sucked and he no longer has the infinity gauntlet.
8. Carnage 42 votes
Not to sure about him he could play like a cross between spider man and venom or he could be something completely unique. I could see marvel giving up carnage before they give up venom.
9. Juggernaut 42 votes
I am super biased on this one. “JUGGERNAUT PUNCH” god I miss that assist. For marvel it would be a horrible idea seeing as Colossus is now the Juggernaut.
10. Rogue 39 votes
Bad Idea for both sides. Every time you see rogue in a book now days shes getting beat up marvel has downgraded her significantly.
11. Black Panther 31 votes
Now as far as marketing goes this would be genius for marvel and capcom both. You get rid of the people who are saying capcom only has one minority in the game, (Which should not matter) and you get an interesting character to boot. Game play I really cant see him adding anything new to the mix however and anytime someone brings him up I see him playing a lot like gambit used to. Throwing vibranium claws and jumping from wall to wall.
12. Emma Frost 31 votes
Umm I cannot see how she would work out as far as game play not saying its not possible I just don’t see it. Shes pretty popular and this game is lacking women so from a marketing standpoint its a good choice if they could make it work.
13. Cable 30 votes
Bad idea all the way around. He is dead in the comics (Being resurrected soon) and we have no idea what he will be about when marvel brings him back. Nate Grey would have been a much better vote.
14. Nightcrawler 24 votes
There are a lot of teleporters in the game so he brings nothing as far as game play is concerned. Add the fact that he is dead in the comics and this is just a bad choice all the way around.
15. Blade 21 votes
Could be an interesting choice but I don’t think Wesley Snipes is in any position to do any voice acting. Could be a good character as long as he does not play like raven from SFXT. not sure how marvel would look at this one.

CAPCOM TOP 15

1. Megaman X 116 votes
The way the fans have acted about this one I would not be surprised if capcom still did not add him to the roster. (Which would be a bad thing) I have no interest in any megaman being added and would prefer Dr. Wily but that’s just me.
2. Gene 109 votes
I like the character and his game has an odd following could be really good. I do not think he would play similar to iron fist so he could add something a bit different to the capcom side of the roster. would be pretty cool.
3. Sigma 79 votes
Sigma would be much cooler than X. I think he has more game play potential. From a marketing standpoint I don’t know capcoms plans for megaman but if they are indeed killing off the franchise it would be a bad idea to include anyone else from said franchise.
4. Captain Commando 71 votes
I think people want him for his assist. He was a pretty decent character but is irrelevant now.
5. Jin Saotome 63 votes
Another nostalgia vote. He was a very interesting character but his chances are bad when we have spencer. If you’re capcom one bionic arm is more than enough.
6. M. Bison (Dictator) 47 votes
I think they said no more street fighters but I would love to see Bison in this game. Only problem is I think he would suck in this game. I don’t think charge motion characters would do good in a game that is so rush down heavy and very unforgiving to turtles.
7. Asura 34 votes
Genius Marketing choice (check out my sig) Anyone who says otherwise knows nothing of business. I like the Character concept and from watching his videos believe he could add a lot to the game as far as original gameplay. Also he has six arms and could take battle damage (like oni) just a good idea all the way around.
8. Jedah 33 votes
Outstanding choice need a male darkstalkers rep and he has a great move set. If they really want to do another dalkstalkers game this would be a logical choice either him or donovan.
9. Juri 31 votes
Cannot see this happening at all. She is not a bad character but does not seem like capcom wants any more sf reps.
10. Megaman 27 votes
I think this would be the best choice of all the megamen simply because you could pull a Dante and give him like 40 different powers from his various games leading to a lot of creative gameplay.
11. Ryu (Breath of Fire) 25 votes
Bad marketing choice just because of the name of the character. I know it sounds dumb but it is what it is. I like the game and the character and think he would be a very good addition to the game but know his name will keep him out.
12. Nina (Breath of Fire) 20 votes
This needs to happen,The game is a complete sausage fest and needs more female representation. Plus she has wings… let me say that again she has wings. This needs to happen.
13. Cammy 16 votes
Another street fighter rep = wasted votes.
14. B.B. Hood 15 votes
I really would love to have this character in the game but we already have 3 darkstalkers female reps in the roster. They should have added her instead of one of the other three initial members.
15. Roll 15 votes
Sorry I just think this is a really bad idea. If you are not going to add megaman definitely do not add roll and piss off the already rabid megaman fans.

I don’t really get why people voted Captain Commando for his assist, which seems to be a big part of why CapCom for a lot of people.

Dante already has this air denial assist. It is called Jam Session, and it is the best assist on Dante 90% of the time, but it’s nothing to write home about.

They need Psylocke in this game (Ms. Marvel, I wouldn’t mind seeing as well.) Know why?

Marvel: Phoenix, She-Hulk, Storm, X-23
Capcom: Amaterasu, Chun-Li, C.Viper, Felicia, Hsien-Ko, Jill, Morrigan, Trish, Tron

Come on Marvel, you give us the dead redhead, the muscle chick, the African queen, and the teenager 4 hire, but you missed your sexiest Marvel character, Psylocke. And I don’t want her just because she was an S-tier assist because invincible anti-airs are weird in Marvel 3. I think she could really be as awesome as she was in Marvel 2 and more. Can pretty much say that about mostly anyone from Marvel 2, but in the end, Marvel 3 needs more Marvel females. Seriously, only 4?

^This.

I voted for Ms. Marvel with hopes of her winning the Marvel side. Besides the obvious lack of females/marvel females, I think Ms. Marvel could bring a whole new play style to the game and I feel she’s way too significant to be left out.

i agree with this sentiment completely. it happened all the way throughout development of vanilla with people wanting to rock a MSS team, as well as doom/strider etc etc. if marrow was top tier in MvC2 im certain people would be begging for her inclusion at the top of DLC request lists.

Roll needs to be in just because of that factor alone.

:lovin:

orz Forgot to cast my vote, oh well at least 2 of the ones I wanted were among the top 3; Sigma and Ms. Marvel

In Arthur’s case, move across the screen normally. From what I remember, Megaman had the option of being a “range/keep away” character but you didn’t have to play him like that. Haven’t seen Rocket Raccoon but rumor is that he’s closer to Saki than he is Cable, and if that’s true, then it’s about the same reason.

I’ve no problem with Megaman X topping the polls (next to my namesake, who sadly didn’t make the top 15 votes probably because of idiotic “Ryu clone” complaints), he would have been my first choice, Capcom or Marvel. Considering we have now 4 confirmed RE characters, and 3 confirmed DMC characters, I don’t see what the problem with having two characters from the Megaman X series is. There’s no way that he’ll be the same as Zero; Zero is kind of a “Strider meets Megaman” character as is, leaning heavily on the former.

I also voted for Psylocke, and that’s without knowledge of what she’s doing in Marvel comics today, or some tier-chasing BS from previous games. I just like the character (design and otherwise). If she plays similar to her MvC2 and before self, that’s fine, but I think she would be tweaked somewhat, like Magneto, Sentinel, and Stom have – perhaps for the better. The only characters I expect to resemble themselves in previous games are TvC port-overs, and every single one of them have been tweaked enough that they don’t feel the exact same.

Knowing the chance that information does get leaked nowadays (as I speak, the latest reveals of SFxT seem to lean heavily upon a certain leak) nowadays, I can understand that Capcom reps are being very evasive or de-confirming for trolling purposes, etc with what’s in store. I don’t see that voting as “stubborn”; more like people not quite buying what’s being sold to them.

I’ve heard the Megaman/Arthur argument a lot, and it’s never really made sense. Arthur can’t even dash, and Megaman’s call to fame is a one-button fireball, which is something that’s always been his calling card as a Vs. series character. While Arthur’s more of a keep-away guy, Megaman can play offensive if need be. The armor he got form Leaf Shield was very useful in that area, and he could also lock you down with the Rockball.

At any rate, it’ll probably be X since supposedly he’s the only one who went into consideration. If Zero’s “X” Costume disappears in his list of costumes (they’re doing rundowns of these regularly now), it’ll be a tell-tale sign that he’s in the works for DLC. I take it Wesker’s Vergil costume is going bye-bye too.

Wouldn’t that work for any MM, though? They all have enough moves to fill a small book…

People, you do realize that if AA assists generally suck, that adding more AA assist characters like Psylocke isn’t going to help. Her AA assist would more than likely suck too.

It’s not a character thing. Its should be obvious to you all that Capcom decided MvC2 revolved waaaaay too much around AA assist abuse and toned it down. Adding Psylocke ain’t gonna change the current status quo.

As has been said in the thread earlier, Asura would be a brilliant choice. Launching him as a playable character in UMvC3 would do nothing but bring in more sales for Asura’s Wrath. Also, it would be really interesting to see what kind of moveset they would give him.
There are quite a few wasted votes in the polls and I really don’t understand why. Venom has been gone for years (in the popular Eddy Brock form), Gambit has been reduced to a secondary character, and Roll has always been a sort of joke. The votes for a MM representative are overwhelming, and for a reason. I really don’t need to say much about it, since so many other people have.

What this poll really shows us is that we’re looking back with our nostalgia glasses on. I wish I had a good primer on the current state of the Marvel Universe, but with so many major events happening back to back, it would be hard to make a simple post about it.

Here are my thoughts on the selected characters from the DLC polls.**

Psylocke **- Don’t get me wrong, I think Psylocke is a great character, and I wouldn’t be too annoyed if we saw her added to the game, but we need a male x-men team member first, as the x-men team members consist of all females apart from wolverine, which also includes another telepath. Like I said, she is a good character, but IMO she’s not high priority. As for female x-men reps I’d rather have Dazzler. **

Gambit **- This is more like it, Gambit when done right is one of the best marvel characters of all time, he’s got a play style that isn’t already on the game, and would be a fine addition to the cast of MvC3. It would be nice if they got Phil Lamarr to voice him and based his primary look on Wolverine And The X-Men. Male x-men team members are sorely needed on this game.

**Ms. Marvel **- I think Ms Marvel should definately be on this game, obviously she is similar to Rogue (or was), but unfortinately modern Rogue is one of the biggest disgraces of the current Marvel universe. Marvel in general needs a few more female characters and I think other than Dazzler, Jubilee and The Invisible Woman she’s the next female character on my list for this game.

Venom - Spiderman really needs more characters, and I’m not just talking about one more, in an ideal world we should be able to have a team of Spidey villains, Venom is arguably the best Spiderman villain of all time (Eddie Brock Venom at least), the only problem here is modern Marvel and Anti-Venom, it’s obviously hard for Marvel to promote characters they don’t want to use, or former versions of characters, and I think a lot of fans are hoping for Anti-Venom as a compromise, but really is AV actually good enough to be on the game? Of course not, it’s Venom or another villain.

Cyclops - Yeah, pretty much the key Marvel character not on the game right now, he’s clearly going to be on the next update, as Jean even shouts his name when she dies, it doesn’t even make sense to have Pheonix on the game without him, as he’s the emotion behind her story. This guy IS the x-men, and he’s the only character to be a part of every major x-men team. He was also a part of Marvels top 10 characters of last year, so I have no doubts this guy will either be DLC or part of the next large update along with the next guy.

Dr. Octopus - He is only on this list IMO because of the fact they found his name on the original disc and people think to vote for whats likely, which is the reason a few other characters are here, but IMO Doc Ock is a fine addition to the cast, like I previously mentioned the game needs more spiderman villains and he is one of the most iconic, he would have a unique play style too. He will clearly be on the game as either DLC or part of the next large update.
**
Thanos** - I’m quite shocked Thanos is up here, I never see anyone use him on MvC 2, not that I’m not a fan of him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Marvel wanted to use him, he seems to be in the comics quite a bit at the moment.

**Carnage **- I don’t dislike Carnage at all, in fact I think he’s a pretty neat character, but I’d rather they used Venom, or another Spiderman villain with a playstyle that’s not really in the game already such as Hydro or Sandman. I can see the top contenders for Spiderman villains to be Doc Ock and Lizard.

Juggernaut - He’s a great character in MvC2, and I wouln’t mind seeing on more x-villain to round out a team of x-villains, I wouldn’t choose him over a new character like Mr Sinister (or I’ve personally always wanted Tusk as his Tuskettes would be so unique on a fighting game). Either way I wouldn’t be mad to see him, but I wouldn’t be that fussed.

** Rogue** - If it was 90s Rogue then I’d say yes, but modern Rogue is a monstrosity and I couldn’t see her having any value on the game.

Black Panther - He’d be good in the sense of adding a bit of diversity franchise wise to the roster, but gameplay wise I could see him beeing a mix of Logan, X23 and Iron Fist, I think Iron Fist has kinda taken the slot that could have gone to BP.

Emma Frost - Emma Frost is almost the perfect addition to the roster, as she’s been both villain and hero, and the marvel side in particular needs more females, as long as she’s based on the WATX incarnation with the same VA then I’d be really happy to see her. In my opinion the perfect three x-men to go on would be Emma, Cyclops and Gambit from an overall sense, although I’d still prefer the Dazzler!

Cable - Cable is a great character and I like him a lot, I’d certainly have no problem if he was included, and I have a lot of fun playing with him on Marvel vs Capcom 2 (genuinley, not spamming of course).

Nightcrawler - When you first see Nightcrawler’s name here you instantly think what’s the point in having another teleporter, but if you think about it in more depth, he’d be a good addition to the game, his specials could be him teleporting INTO different moves, not just simple teleports ala Wesker or Deadpool. There’s also no character whose physically different on the x-men, one who faced ridicule because he’s not human looking, I’d be very happy to see him. Especially as the 4 issue NC miniseries that Dave Cockrum did is among my favorite comics of all time.

**Blade **- I love the character Blade, I even named my gamertag after both Blade and Gambit (my name is BladesGambit), and I would love him for this game, not just because the game needs black people or anything like that (I don’t care about race in video games, I am white BTW), he would be really cool in the game.

Megaman X - I personally actually prefer classic, but for this game I’d rather see X, as I really want Lou on, and I think classic would lessen his chances (not neccessarily because he would play like him or anything like that, but because I’m not sure capcom would want too many small characters).

**Gene **- His inclusion here, I feel is just because Capcom said he was on the shortlist of cut characters from Ultimate, people are voting for him because he is likely, I’m not a fan of him, and I’d rather not see him on the game.

Sigma - Oh SRK, you and your fetish for Sigma is something I’ll never understand, he’s a pretty good villain and all, I think the Megaman series in general is far too over rated, it already has 2 characters, it only really needs a bomber now, although I can see both X and Roll being added.

Captain Commando - Yeah this game needs so Captain Corridor, he’s one of those characters that’s just MvC, Strider and Jin are the other two, it’s not MvC without them.

Jin Saotome - Same as Captain Commando, although if they were to choose Princess Devilotte in his stead you wouldn’t hear me complaining.

M. Bison - I think 4 SF characters is more than enough, but I also think that Bison should have been the third SF character after Chun Li and Ryu, so I wouldn’t be completely annoyed if he was on the game, but I would in the sense of why does SF need 5 characters when it has so many releases lately?

Asura - This is another one of those characters that Capcom planted the seed in the communitie’s head and people are now requesting him? Seriously? His game hasn’t even been released yet, and with so much history, the company doesn’t need to borrow from games that havn’t hit shelves yet. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be good, I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve to be on a FUTURE fighting game, but for now, let’s let some capcom franchises that are slightly forgotten but still have a large fanbase have some characters such as Dino Crisis and Powerstone.

Jedah - I have nothing against Jedah, he would be a fine addition to the cast, he’s a great villain too, and Capcom still doesn’t have too many villains. I’d rather see Sasquatch, Talbain or Rikuo though.

Juri - She’s literally the only character on SSF4 that I can’t stand, she’s almost not even like a Capcom character. If she was DLC, she’d be one of the few characters I wouldn’t actually buy.

**Megaman **- Read what I said for X.

Ryu (Breath of Fire) - Awesome choice, but I’d actually prefer Nina below.

Nina - Like I said for Ryu, I’d rather have Nina, she’d bring a unique style to the game.

Cammy - How the heck did this happen? She’s a good character and all but I can’t believe she made it this high up the poll.

B.B. Hood - Out of all the DS she’s on the bottom of my list, I really like her, but if she was on, you’d have the same DS as on MvC2, but swapping out Anakaris whose playstyle is really fun, for Hsien-Ko who is an insult to DS on MvC3.

Roll - She’s one of the few capcom characters on this list that I think will actually end up on the game, not that I want her, but I’d be shocked if she’s not on it.

TYRANNOSAURUS REX FTW!

I was thinking more along the lines of Regina lol.

I know this is a videogame and we are supposed to suspend belief while playing it but there is another argument for Asura’s inclusion. Who else on the capcom roster do you honestly believe could go toe to toe with Thor,Hulk,Phoenix,Magneto,Dr Strange,Shuma,Nova,GhostRider or Galactus? Outside of Ammy No one.(Dante and Vergil are arguable) Capcoms Side is severely outgunned. The argument against him is that his game is not out yet, it is a weak argument at best. This has been done before (Soul Calibur 4/Starkiller) and it worked out wonderfully as both a fun character even though he was op as all hell and it was also a marketing tool that helped Force Unleashed reach some gamers that it may have not mattered to beforehand. Long story short,Bad ass character Design/Six arms/Battle Damage/Ridiculously powerful/ Asura gets my vote.

This is not only a video game where we are supposed to suspend disbelief, it is a video game series that has repeatedly and historically featured a robot in the guise of a little girl (and not much more powerful than what she appears to be, truth be told) attacking godlike beings with brooms, water buckets, flowers, improvised copies of the energy-gun-arm her ‘brother’ uses, etc. Marvel vs. Capcom as a series is basically us getting a video game out of two children having the following argument: “Ryu could beat up Thor!” “Nuh-uh! Thor’s a GOD!” “What if Ryu and Thor were put in a world that magically made them equally powerful?” “Wellll… okay, that might be a close fight! …But Thor would still win!”, and then Marvel and Capcom agreed to give us said world and let us have this ‘argument’, ‘for real.’

Therefore, canon power levels are not much concern for me and I do not worry about whether one side is ‘outgunned’ or not, I worry about whether each side has interesting characters. Capcom has trotted out most of their main heroes to ensure that.

The argument regarding Asura’s Wrath not being out yet returns to a point others brought up: “This is the perfect way to increase sales for that game!” It probably is. Here’s the thing; since I don’t work in Capcom’s Sales & Marketing division, I don’t care about driving up the sales of Asura’s Wrath. I don’t care to do Sales & Marketing’s job for them by encouraging an advertising character. That’s their job. They’re the ones who should be going to Capcom executives and saying “Hey, let’s put Asura in to drum up sales for Asura’s Wrath. So long as he’s a good character in the game, people will be interested!” Thus I will be using my power as a consumer with the ability to vote in polls Capcom notices, to pursue the interests I have that Capcom’s Sales & Marketing does not inherently share. They’re not going to approach Capcom execs and say “Hey, let’s get Nina in there.” I have to tell Capcom that myself. Same deal with how you have to tell Capcom “We want X”, “We want Gene”, etc.

Asura would probably be a cool fighting game character. I’m not contesting that or saying anyone’s votes for him are ‘wrong.’ My major objection is solely that Capcom should have this idea on their own, we shouldn’t encourage them to adver-character us, we shouldn’t do their job for them. They’ll do Asura on their own, in all likelihood. Those vote slots are perhaps best used for other priorities you may have, thus.

Razma: I would be all for a ‘quick overview guide’ to current Marvel. As it is, when it has come time to vote in these polls I’ve had to go to my comics-following friends and ask them what’s hot right now. They’ve told me about a few cool characters here and there that Marvel is more likely to work with than votes based on my 90s nostalgia (apt as it was; I re-watched some of the 90s X-Men a few weeks ago and the show is still good today). Hopefully someone can step forward and give us a primer on current Marvel?

I don’t want to give the impression that people can’t vote for who they want, but the truth is that there are better votes than others, and there are objective ways to show it. I believe there are several frameworks that people should look to to determine if a character will, or will not be a worthwhile conclusion:

  1. Current Standing in the universe - If your character is dead (Venom), or has been severely marginalized or made shitty (Rogue), then you should probably just let that character go. The only redemption would be how highly Marvel themselves prides the character themselves, for example Cyclops who currently isn’t that great in the comics from what I’ve read but is still a highly prized char on Marvels top list.

  2. What is the cast lacking? - Obviously Marvel is lacking women, and Capcom is lacking villains. Perhaps we need more Spiderman villains as well. There may be more categories, but these are a good start. So, can we at least address these sections first before voting for your random character?

  3. Nostalgia votes are dumb - Stop voting for AA assists and characters that have already had an incarnation in previous fighting games if you haven’t already addressed the areas in which the game is lacking the most. If nostalgia and what the game needs happen to coincide, then good for you.

I realize these were some guidelines for the original voting, but I suspect that just because this poll is over the opportunity to display some interest in different characters hasn’t disappeared. That being said I think these characters would fit better than others:

Marvel:

Carnage (compromise for Spiderman villain that isn’t Venom or Doc Ock, new character)
Emma Frost (woman, new character)
Psylocke (not because of AA assist or nostalgia, but because she’s a woman and she’s better than Ms. Marvel)
Thanos (more cosmic Marvel, gives an old character a new chance to be good, also has a good standing in current comics)

Result: The package contains 2 males, 2 females, 3 villains (frost is evil but was once good right?), 1 good guy, 2 new characters, 1 Spiderman villain, 1 cosmic marvel, 1 X-Man char

Capcom:

Jedah (villain, doesn’t matter that he’s another DS, there are 4 RE characters already anyway)
Sigma (villain, Megaman fans get there fix with a character thats not fucking Megaman)
Gene (new character, unique and obscure, with great potential for a fighting game)
Nina (judging from everyone elses posts she would make a good addition to the game, and this would round out some Capcom DLC well)

Result: The package contains 3 males, 1 female, 2 villains, 2 good guys, 3 new characters, 1 DarkStalker, 1 Megaman character

I believe both of my suggestions are properly thought out and defended, and that they are well rounded
