UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

Okay, so what’s he offer mechanically? Having played God Hand, I remember a speed brawler with an internal “leveling” mechanic and some hyper combos.

Assuming the TGS leak is true, Iron Fist is… a speed brawler with an internal “leveling” mechanic. It’s not ‘100% the same,’ no, but it feels like it’d be such a close fit…

I dont remember very well but here we go!
About the leveling It didnt affect his moves only the difficulty of the game and you could do a power up to decrease the difficult by humilliating yourself xD
It was a speedy brawler because some of the enemies move could totally kill you in one attack he couldnt block only dodge (Like in the Viewtiful joe games)

If the we’re assuming the rumor I think that Iron fist could work as some kind of passive char that accumulates chi in battle to use better attacks.
Gene would be fast and could get some godly based attacks or have a powered up hyper like ryu unleashing the godhand.

What I think he could offer is flexibility like Dante but in a different way.
Iron Fist ( If you play Marvel Ultimate alliance 2 ) was kinda a hard hitter and had the AWESOME ability to heal the WHOLE team (he is my favorite char in that game )

EDIT: Would be cool that he had that healing super like Roll in TvC, not too much life healed just a little bit

Psylocke sounds like some sort of MvC2 fanatic ordeal, so I agree with you on your points concerning her.

Gambit might be a secondary character in the comic series, but he’s still 100% badass with a side of uniqueness to him. Nobody else uses a staff (Swords and Staves are kinda the same thing, but you can break it down to preference if you want. Think Donatello and Leonardo from TMNT), and nobody has a projectile that comes in the form of a card. Give him some flashy Wesker attacks along with an invisible projectile that just kinda whips into someone and explodes eventually and you’ve got a new character and new design.

Who the hell is Ms. Marvel? Can I get a link?

Like you said, Venom is long dead so I don’t see why people are looking to get him. He’d be oldschool Venom 2.0. Actually… He kind of reminds me of a Marvel side Megaman. If I recall correctly he wasn’t even all that great in MvC2, so hype for even an alteration is kind of… Wha?

Cyclops is just like Psylocke in that they’re Iron Man revamps with nothing more to add to the game but different movesets. Nothing but MvC2 fans looking to get their mains back into the game if you ask me.

I can’t say much on Cable since I hate him so much. Whether he’s in or not, I’m not dropping Chris for his superiority.

Megaman… I want him, I really do, but not enough to piss my pants and cry a river for. I’m a fan and nothing more. He probably wouldn’t add anything new to the game anyways.

Who the hell is Gene?

Sigma would be effing SWEET. Just the possibility of his moveset blows my mind. It’d almost be a slap in the face if they didn’t at least consider him for DLC down the road.

There’s only one character from Bionic Commando right now so I wouldn’t be opposed to adding another. Just hope they do it right.

Jin was the dude wearing all silver/whitish gear with a bandana right? He uh… Punched hard in MvC2? Did anyone even play him in the older versions?

The Asura votes are stupid, plain and simple. I’d rather hear and uproar for Chibi or the Ghost Boy in Okamiden. Hyping up a game nobody owns yet just seems like a waste.

I’d crap my pants for Nina, but I get the feeling she’d be Phoenix all over again. Some 5 bar transformation that turns her into a god with wings and feathers coming from her jabs. Not that I’m supporting her or anything, but one of her assist should give a percent of health back. Nerf nerf nerf.

Smash Brothers Brawl had 12273183721 Sword characters and all of them were unique. Ryu can turn into a &^%*ing dragon and use a short sword. Yes please.

Roll… Hmmm… I dunno. Maybe if she was in her Megaman Legends form and not her child form then I might think about it. Until then, that little girl sweeping action just screams wannabe Doujin Fighting Game.

Cammy? Wtf? People want another SF character in UMvC3? Why not Guile or Dhalsim? Something original y’know?

I’d comment on the trends, but this post is already long enough.

Ms. Marvel is a character who features about equally in Avengers and X-Men content. Rogue notably stole her power set at one point (and was the Rogue we saw in MVC2).

Gene is the lead from God Hand.

Captain Commando is not from Bionic Commando. He’s from his self-titled game and is from the only Capcom game that actually doesn’t have any connection to BC (Commando and MERCs do).

What about Nina suggests a godlike transformation? I don’t follow, other than I /guess/ Shaman-equipping in BoF2, which would be a dumb excuse to recycle a mechanic like that.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Nina in UMVC3. Since people wanted ‘magic’ for Capcom side, Nina is your answer.
Ryu? Maybe. As we have enough swordsman characters but doesn’t hurt if he transforms into any dragon from the BoF series.

Psylocke? She should have been here since vanilla. She’s practically a Simpson of Marvel and her psyblade would probably be alot deadlier in here than she was in MVC2 with the mechanics that MVC3 has going on.
Ah Ms. Marvel… Basically Rogue without Rogue’s powers. I loved her play style.

I don’t really see Ms. Marvel getting a feature if people do want her that badly.

Gene looks like a badass in his pictures, that’s all the convincing I need.

I remember Captain Commando now… I played that game wayyyyyy long ago and hated it. So many better beat 'em up games released at the time (Battletoads and Double Dragon comes to mind, the other game on Sega Saturn too).

Oh wow, I guess Nina always did have wings after all. Way to go me to play the first and second and not pay attention. Uhhh… I think Ryu’s awesomeness completely overshadowed anyone else in that game, hence why I don’t remember anything else but him sitting in the front row and everyone else in the back.

I voted for Gene hoping his inclusion would pave the way for a God Hand sequel. And for the chance that his theme would be the God Hand credits song. As a side note, I’ve read enough X-Men and X-Force to know that Psylocke’s tits are her only redeeming feature.

i would probably have a seizure if they put ryu from BoF in the game. I can imagine a dragon form power up super, critical hits, maybe even a guts recovery mechanic where he would revive with a very small amount of life. I think he could be a fun character basing his animations of his wild swing attack from BoF 2, with a lvl 3 transform super to dragon form. He could also have a captain commando-esque array of moves calling in teamates from the games. Anyway i think it would be alot of fun.

We already have enough “badass” or “badass with a side of funny/quippy/sarcastic” characters. It’s tedious. By my count: Raw badass: Wolverine, Wesker, Spencer, Akuma, Chris, Taskmaster, Zero, (arguably) Ryu, (arguably) Iron Man, Vergil, (arguably) Nova, (arguably) Rocket Raccoon, (arguably) Iron Fist. Badass with a side of quippy: Dante, Deadpool, (arguably) Taskmaster, (arguably) Iron Man, Spider-Man, (arguably) Frank.

This is like a quarter of the roster. You can make like five teams of this general flavor without repeating characters and most of them are upper-mid-tier or better.

Did you honestly just make a list of character ‘you’ believe are badass in UMvC3? Sigh… Leave it to me to have to set the standards here.

At the top of the list you have Kratos and Space Marines, because badassness is defined by dedication, violence, Braveheart equivalence, and Bruce Willis levels of endurance.

In the middle of the list you have the Kid from Bastion, Gordon Freeman, and George R.R. Martin

And at the bottom of the list you have Cole from Infamous, Sisters of Battle, and Gabriel from Castlevania.

This list is not opinion, it is the word of men. May Chris Redfield give you mercy. Also, Wesker and Dante are not Badass or even close… Wesker is evil and out to reap the benefits of a parasite, Dante is borderline Anime and Anime is the opposite of badass.

Looks like it to me.

As for Mega Man:

I’d really want to see Star Force’s MM, but I didn’t have the vote (registered too late). I think Star Force’s general bouquet of Weird Shit brings more to the table than either of the Mega Men that saw meaningful votes, especially since it’s not repping X, which has a rep already, but that’s probably been said enough times.

I guess I could be cool with Psylocke. What’s she doing in comics lately? Is there any reason for Marvel to want to push her?

Well, to put it in perspective, she’s probably in the best x-book right (uncanny x-force) but there’s a big x-men event and she’s not really much part of it.

Since “how would Nina play?” has come up, my sig has a link to an ‘info packet’ on her I’ve been using to encourage people to vote for her in the SRK poll, and hopefully any upcoming Capcom-Unity polls. Feel free to check it out. Karsticles also posted a whole fan-made movelist for her in another thread… I can’t immediately find it. Karsticles, could you chime in with it? I remember disagreeing with you on the point of the AP system but feeling your overall spell list for her got the feel of the character right, so I’d love for you to share it with Mustachio and the others here. Suffice to say though, she would mostly be a flight-capable, projectile heavy character with a likely mix of some team-play elements (possible healing, etc.) depending on which exact version of Nina is used by Capcom. ‘Mage as team player’ isn’t something that has really been explored yet in MvC3, and would make for a fairly unique character.

As for what DefaultCamera was saying, I’d like to offer comment on it since he and I discussed this at some length. I’m not speaking for him and his specific opinions, but I can narrow down what he’s probably referring to regarding the usage of the word ‘badass.’ A common theme you can see amongst these characters is that they are heavily combat-trained, or else were ‘trained by ordeal.’ Much of their lives is about combat. Wolverine is there to kill you. Wesker is there to kill you with a gun and wear black leather. Dante is there to kill you with a gun and sword and wear black leather. Spencer is there to kill you with his bionic arm. Akuma is there to kill you with his anime chi and act like a mysterious man. Chris is there to kill you with guns. So on and so forth.

Where I think he might be going with that, and I most certainly am going with this clarification, is that the backlash against non-combat-oriented characters from Capcom’s history is silly. There are already plenty of dedicated, combat-trained characters in the roster. If you have to have someone with black leather and a gun or sword in order to feel awesome while you’re beating up on the opposition, the roster has you covered many, many times over. There should be no threat to anyone’s macho masculinity over the inclusion of the likes of Phoenix Wright and other more light-hearted or “I don’t know how to fight, so I’ll make stuff up and hope it works!” types, because there are already plenty of obvious steel-nerved combatant types already.

Granted, I say all this as a broad commentary. At no point did you specifically make any remarks to that effect! It’s more of a response to a general sentiment I’ve seen on several forums, where any character who isn’t obviously a hardened fighter is shunned for not being ‘a badass’, in various ways of phrasing it.

You stop that.

Never played Star Force, don’t think I really want to.

There’s so much they can do with Megaman that I kind of wonder if Capcom can actually pull it off without letting a good percent of the people here at SRK say “I told you so.” I’d be fine with the TvC rendition of MM, but I’m not sure if I really liked it to begin with (Granted, that whole game felt slow as hell).

Then the moveset. I think I had yellow fever at the time of voting.

She’d probably be better in MvC3 than in MvC2 so I’d be optimistic.

I’m pretty sure I sent a tweet to Seth saying something about anti air assist being bad currently. This is driving the point home.

I don’t know anything about MvC3 Iron Fist and his gameplay at the moment and neither do you.

What? Very low or fails to place top 20/30?? She was #6 in CU poll with 1225 votes… I can’t find GF poll results.

She’s been in Uncanny X-Men and Uncanny X-Force and is a very requested character (almost always the top female) so I hope they decide to add her as DLC.

True Order: The use of double question marks seems to suggest agitation or even frustrated disbelief. Please, calm down if that is so as I meant no offense or mockery. To respond: I was about to tell you “Yes, apparently she is a statistical oddity in how SRK votes versus how the ‘general public’ does.” I was about to. Then when I refreshed some of the sources I was using to track vote totals, it looks like there were some very old sources in there and I am no longer certain this statement is accurate! While some aspects of the statement still hold somewhat true, it looks like there may be some errors in what I said. I apologize, and will edit the original post accordingly.

Mr. X: That’s fair enough then, re: Psylocke’s move set. Likewise, if you’ve spoken to Seth about this via Twitter, then you have indeed made your concerns clear. That’s wonderful! Forgive me for not knowing about that already; I do not follow your Twitter activities very closely, nor Seth’s, and could not have known about this dialogue as a result. As for Iron Fist… I feel the challenge/question is still somewhat valid. You’re right, none of us have official details about how he plays. We do have the ‘Lupinko kinda certified’ rumor, but we don’t know which specific things he was verifying or to what extent. I was not claiming superior knowledge. Instead, I was noting that some people I speak with regularly that do know more about Iron Fist and Gene edit: as general characters, moreso than I know about them (end edit), seemed to have skeptical challenges about Gene’s inclusion due to what they see as likely mechanical similarity to Gene. Indeed, DefaultCamera pointed out some likely significant similarities above.

I have to reiterate that I’m trying to present legitimate inquiry here. You shouldn’t feel threatened by my remarks and questions; others have managed to change my mind or at least given me cause to think very hard on my current position so far in this thread. I’m not here to stomp on Gene supporters and say “wrong!”; I want to know what they’re seeing that I’m missing, especially since I have heard a significant counterpoint already, one that is fairly compelling to me.

Thanks SRK for making Gene the second highest voted character. I love you all (all homo)

Well, Gene, in God Hand, had a crazy amount of moves you would buy and equip, ranging from his normals to his Roulette. His concern seemed to be about demeanor, which isn’t important.

Of course, he might end being another “punchy” character but I think they would have a lot of freedom in giving him specials and hypers and hopefully implement his dodge and grovel. Imagine if they gave him ballbuster and it really didn’t work on the female cast lol.

As you can see, some Roulettes could be specials and hypers, a lot of potential mash things.

I want to see him take the kick me sign off his back during his intro or after winning.
