UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

So any validity to these supposed “Leaked lists” for DLC UMvC3? I doubt it, but I hardly follow the leaks.

It would be cool if they put the Lizard as dlc for the marvel side but Sony has the movie rights to Spider-Man and no one voted for him

Theres been Leaked DLC lists?

2011 Top 100 DC and Marvel Comic Book Characters Master List | Comics Should Be Good! @ Comic Book Resources
And that explains majority of the roster. Have a nice day.

Namor and Iceman are both on that list, and that makes me a happy man! crosses fingers for DLC

I saw one floating about some website, it might have been someones random Tweet, but it was on a comic book board.
I’ll find it if I can. Neat choices but that’s one reason why I think it’s probably fake hah!

Pretty neat, granted, I find it odd how some of these great characters can’t support their own comic book.

Regarding Gene: Good, then definitely stick to it. While Iron Fist did have a few things I would expect Gene to have had, overall I see plenty of room for them to co-exist. He personally doesn’t matter much to me, but if Gene shows up my reaction would be “Cool; that should make the others happy and he’ll probably bring something decently interesting to the roster.” I’m envisioning a lower damage, notably more speed-oriented character… possibly one that makes significant use of easy wallbouncing; a lot of his attacks in the videos I saw seemed to do things vaguely similar to that (such as knocking enemies into the skyline/‘stars in the distance’, then they’d come bouncing back to the fight). I haven’t thought it through too much further than “speed” and “lots of bounces”, but even that framework gives him meaningful differences from Iron Fist.

Nina Thoughts: As far as my Nina design goes, I’ve noticed it has some obvious similarities to Karsticles’. This is likely due to us having pretty much the exact same movelist to work from, with clearly defined RPG style mechanics. The major differences are I plan to make more use of her visual elements (Nina’s spells did some neat things for a SNES-era RPG, things like setting the forest background ablaze if you used a strong fire spell… I could use such blazes as a means of briefly controlling parts of the screen at odd angles), and not bother coding in a separate AP Count (basically that game’s version of MP/Magic Points, spent on using spells) but instead using existing code/mechanics revolving around the Super Meter.

I would see Nina as a mix of zoner, meter manipulator (can steal some from enemies), and debuffer (things like reducing the enemy’s speed/attack power). This has some obvious parallels to Karsticles’ design, so my challenge will be making it a coherent and accessible idea that wouldn’t demand special code work by the programmers and makes sense to the player. My secondary goal would be to make Nina visually impressive, such that bystanders see you playing UMvC3 and using Nina… and they would say, “Whoa, cool! What game is that? I wanna play!” It’s one nice way to grow a playerbase, albeit one person at a time.

In any case, I’ve finished my research and mostly just need to build this into a coherent design document. Should be along in a few days at the most.

I offer a Nina design document below. Please note it is long as I wanted to cover as much as possible**.** The goal is that Capcom could, if they wanted, take this and put it straight in the game with only modest revision.

Foreword

Nina from Breath of Fire has gained notably more support since previous polls, and this design document is meant to show the reader roughly how she might play if Capcom were to add her to the roster. Using her Breath of Fire II incarnation as a basis, I will outline a character that mixes projectiles/zoning with meter manipulation and debuffs, offering a very cerebral addition to the game. Her distinct ‘angel mage’ (“Wyndian”) appearance and flashy spells would also catch the eye of anyone randomly watching her in play, and it is my hope this “Whoa, awesome!” reaction would get them interested in starting to play Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 too.

One thing I hoped to do was capture the feel of her RPG-style fighting methods. In Breath of Fire, you have to manage AP (basically that game’s MP or “Magic Points”) to ensure Nina can keep a steady flow of spells. I treat your team’s Hyper Meter as her AP/MP pool, giving her mechanics to both replenish it and spend it.

Character Design

Overview/Role: Zoner with Debuffs. Relies on controlling the screen or flying away to keep herself safe, as her normal attacks are mostly weak and she has low health.

Health: 700,000 to 850,000.

Movement:
Walk – Float type (as per Magneto, Storm, Dr. Strange, etc.).

Jump – Normal jump/super-jump rules.

Special – Flight and air-dash capable. Behaves as per similar characters. Air-dash not a particularly useful combo-starting tool as her normals are bad.

Attacks

Normals Overview: Primarily short ranged or oriented toward pushing the enemy away from her. These would range from things like firing short-ranged magic energy blasts, to her swinging a kick at the enemy’s shins, and so on. These are not very good moves in general, as Nina simply doesn’t know how to fight well without her magic. When even your jab sucks, being able to tri-angle jump keeps you from being a rushdown character.

A note on Specials and Hypers: The following attacks might need revision for too much use of OTG, Stagger, and Bounce mechanics, but the initial intent behind using them is to allow ‘spell combos’ that are quick but fun to watch, such as bouncing the enemy with a lightning bolt and sweeping them away with a blast of fire.

Cyclone :qcf:+:l: (Air OK) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4#t=2m49s
A thin ‘crescent blade’ of silver-white air flies horizontally, similar to Hadouken, Hadangeki, etc. Causes Wall Bounce. Unlike the example video, the UMvC3 version would not hit on both sides (for obvious reasons).

Jolt :qcf:+:m: (Air OK) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=178s
A column of lightning sweeps the area, behaving similarly to Storm’s Whirlwind, Dante’s Jam Session (if it were detached from him) and Dormammu’s Purification. Vertical beam, hits OTG. Covers a static area that is in roughly the middle of the screen, useful to cover that area only.

Frost :qcf:+:h: (Air OK) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=194s
Two half-character-sized stones fall from the sky, hitting OTG. Covers a static area at roughly the edge of the screen, useful to cover only that area.

Flare :qcf:+:s: (Air OK) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=201s
A trail of fire erupts above Nina, traveling in a crescent arc (highest points on corners, lowest points on middle area). This leaves a blind spot in extreme corners, but allows her to attack from unusual angles.

Slow :qcb:+:l: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one bar of Hyper Meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=215s
A single target is automatically placed in the Slow status effect as a sparkling light-blue energy field washes over them. Slow effect continues to ‘count down’ (and can end) when the character is tagged out.

Blunt :qcb:+:m: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=185s
A single target is enveloped in a sparkling orange field of magic energy, while an icon of a sword shattering to pieces displays overhead. The target is automatically subject to an ‘Attack Power Down’ effect where they deal less damage than normal. This status effect lasts a very long time, but its duration continues to count down even if the character is tagged out.

Spirit :qcb:+:h: (Ground Only) - Posture similar to pose shown in other video examples.
Nina enters a spellcasting posture and builds Hyper Meter, comparable to Thor’s taunt. Can be interrupted at any point and is meant as a practical way to gain meter. Cannot call Assists while doing Spirit, but can call them beforehand to protect her during it.

Flight :qcb:+:s: (Air OK) - Visible in all other attack video examples.
Nina begins Flying, following rules similar to other flight-capable characters.

Typhoon :qcf:+:l::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 50% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=263s
A swirling tornado appears in front of Nina, sweeping forward to about 3/4th screen range. Hits one screen-height. Causes mid-air stagger on hit, carries opponent away to about 3/4th screen range on block. Used as a ‘get off me’ move.

Lightning :qcf:+:m::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 50% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=231s
Essentially ‘EX Jolt’, this calls down four simultaneous lightning bolts that cover most of the screen and cause a Ground Bounce; can hit OTG. Useful for punishing predictable assist calls, extending combos, and threatening a large area.

Iceblast :qcf:+:h::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 50% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=292s
Summons a floating, head-shaped block of ice that breathes chilly mists at the target. The mist acts as a horizontal Beam and freezes the target in a manner similar to Magneto’s throw. Target falls to the ground immediately if hit in the air.

Simoon :dp:+:l::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=358s
An orb with homing/tracking behavior appears in front of the target and explodes, causing Hard Knockdown. Valuable for punishing enemies at unusual angles.

Weaken: :dp:+:m::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=207s
A sparkling light green energy field, along with a bent shield icon, appears over a single enemy target, known as Defense Down. This causes them to take more damage per hit for the next several seconds. This timer continues to decrease even if the target is tagged out, and can end in that way as well.

Fireblast :dp:+:h::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=253s
Target is trapped in a pyramid of magic, which is then flooded with fire. Targets hit in the air fall to the ground immediately. Targets already on the ground are placed in Stagger/Crumple state.

Leech Power :qcb:+:h::s: (Air OK, requires approx. 25% of one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=238s
A light blue energy dot strikes the target, siphoning energy before flying back to Nina. Target loses some Hyper Meter and Nina’s team regains an equal amount of Meter stolen in this way. Does no damage on hit, but has a high Projectile Durability.

Hypers

Valhalla :qcf:+:l::m: (Air OK, requires one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=350s
An electrical storm sweeps nearly the entire screen. Hits OTG and is thus a good combo ender.

Inferno :qcf:+:m::h: (Air OK, requires one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=365s
Long trails of fire shoot from overhead in a crescent arc starting from high to low. Hits overhead, fire trail persists for several seconds on block or miss but these ‘lingering trails’ do notably less damage than a direct hit and are thus used to control space.

Blizzard :dp:+:l::h: (Air OK, requires one meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=318s
A ‘slide’ of icy mist forms, with a large ‘ice wolf’ rushing along it to slam into the target. Pushes them to the edge of the screen on hit or block, but does not cause any kind of Bounce. Very high projectile durability, possibly a Beam or Beam-like move.

Shaman Fusion :qcb:+:l::m: (Ground only, requires one meter, see image in Multimedia section)
Nina enters ‘wind shaman’ form for several seconds, gaining increased attack power, flight time, and other general improvements. Mode counter does not decrease while she is tagged out, and this improves her Assists as a result.

Sirocco :dp:+:atk::atk: (Ground only, requires 3 meter) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H9xbVk6LN4&feature=player_detailpage#t=391s
A full screen is rocked by multi-colored explosive magical orbs. Will hit both the point character and any assists they have called.

Assists

Cyclone: Type Shot/Horizontal
Identical to Nina’s on-point version; fires a horizontal projectile. Becomes Typhoon if Nina is Assisting in Shaman Form.

Jolt: Type Shot/Vertical
Identical to the on-point version, fires a column of lightning around mid-screen. Becomes Lightning if Nina is Assisting in Shaman Form.

Spirit: Type Special/Instant (Builds Hyper Meter)
Nina jumps on-screen, strikes a spellcasting pose, and generates a small energy field. The field is harmless; it’s simply a manifestation of her building up magic energy, which gives you roughly 1/4th to 1/3rd of a bar of Hyper Meter. Comparable to Amaterasu and Morrigan’s meter-builder assists. Becomes Leech Power if used while Nina is Assisting in Shaman Form.

Note: The powered up assists might cost a little meter per use, unsure. Definitely the sort of thing I’d hash out in meetings.

Presentation

This section covers all the ‘flavor’ things about Nina, such as her in-game bio, intro and win poses, special quotes, etc.

Colors

Note: All color sets would come with modifications to her Shaman Form colors as well; Nina vs. Nina mirrors would not become impossible to follow.

Color 1: As pictured at start of document and in Multimedia section below.
Color 2: Red with white wings. Tribute to Nina from Breath of Fire 1 and 3.
Color 3: A mix of light and dark blues with white wings. Tribute to Nina from Breath of Fire 4.
Color 4: Dull whites and faded blues, with pale green hair. Tribute to Nina from Dragon Quarter.
Color 5: Bright white and gold with white wings. Meant to resemble an angel.
Color 6: Purple, pink, white, with white wings and blue hair. A nod to Mina (her sister).

Intro and Victory Poses

Intro Pose (General): Nina begins floating, pointing her hand at the opponent. A small burst of energy shoots out of her ring while she shouts “I’ll show you some real magic!”

Victory Pose (General): Nina hovers in place, looking calmly satisfied but showing off a bit of magical-energy flourish in the process.

Intro vs. Nemesis, Firebrand, Akuma, Dormammu, and Shuma Gorath: Nina instead says “My sister sacrificed herself so I could protect everyone from the likes of you!” Line may need slight tweaking and fact-checking on who precisely she would say it against.

Victory vs. Above: Aggressive, Nina yells “This is the end of your cruelty, monster!”

Intro vs. Ryu (Street Fighter): Nina sounds disappointed, commenting, “You have the same name, but you’re not who I’m looking for…” Kind of a joke intro, referring to Ryu from Breath of Fire 2.

Intro vs. Dr. Strange: Nina says, “The Sorcerer Supreme? I could learn much from you!”

Victory vs. Above: Nina is proud. “It appears my magic is powerful enough to overcome even you!”

Intro vs. Frank West, Chris Redfield, Dante, Trish, Arthur, Amaterasu, Hsien-ko, and possibly Jill Valentine: Nina is polite and says, “You fight demons as well? You have my gratitude.” Might also use this line with Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Thor, and/or Vergil? Unsure; would fact-check with those more familiar with these characters.

Victory vs. Above: Nina is calm and friendly. “We share the same enemies… I wish you well.”

Intro vs. Felicia: Nina is solemn. “You remind me of a close friend…” This is a reference to Lin/Katt from Breath of Fire 2.

Intro vs. Storm: Nina is intrigued. “Let us see who truly controls the elements!”

Victory vs. Above: Nina is satisfied, proclaiming, “You’re very powerful, but I wield more than wind, lightning, and hail!”

Win Quotes

Win Quote (General 1): “If it’s a healing spell, you’re looking at the wrong person for it. Combat magic is more my specialty.”

Win Quote (General 2): “I won’t shed a single tear until this is resolved!”

Win Quote (General 3): “Enough charlatanry! Tell me where Ryu is, now!”
Note: This quote would be removed/overwritten with something else if Ryu from Breath of Fire joined the playable roster.

vs. Rocket Raccoon: “You’re proof that appearances can be deceiving. So cute to behold, yet able to destroy buildings with ease…”

vs. Dr. Strange: “Though I won, you know so much about magic. Could I study with you sometime?”

vs. Hawkeye: “Your mastery of the bow is impressive! I wonder who would win in an archery contest between you and Bosch…”
Bosch is also known as ‘Bo’ in some versions, referring to the crossbow-wielding ally in Breath of Fire 2.

vs. Magneto: “It’s true that people lash out at those who are different. However, you solve nothing by attacking them!”

vs. Hulk: “You strike with the same power as Rand, yet there is so much anger in you…”

vs. Iron Man and/or Dante: “You say I’m ‘sexy’ when I’m angry, but now you see I’m also dangerous when provoked!”
This is somewhat of a nod to segments early in Breath of Fire 2. A gang of bandits begin menacing Nina, and tell her she is “really sexy when you’re mad.” She responds by blasting them with magic. I can see Dante and/or Iron Man making similar remarks.

vs. Sentinel: “You hunt those who are different? I’ll put an end to you with my magic!”

vs. Spider-Man, Captain America, She-Hulk, Phoenix Wright, Chun-Li, Chris Redfield, Viewtiful Joe, Spencer, Arthur, Amaterasu, Zero, Hsien-ko, Haggar, possibly Jill Valentine: “A protector of the innocent… you remind me of those old hero stories.”
Might also be used against Strider Hiryu; would fact-check with an expert on the character. Wright is possibly an odd fit for this quote given he’s not a warrior hero, but he does defend the innocent. It is in any case meant to show some praise for traditionally heroic characters.

vs. Felicia: “The same enthusiasm and energy she has… are you sure you two have never met?”
Also a joking nod to Lin/Katt.

vs. Wolverine, Phoenix, Storm, X-23: “A friend once said my black wings are beautiful and not a curse. Some day, I hope people appreciate you in the same way.”
This is a reference to Lin/Katt praising Nina’s unusual wings, when most people in Nina’s home society shun her for them (they’re considered an omen of doom, in contrast to most Wyndians’ white wings).

vs. Frank West: “That will be quite enough of you leering at me through that light-flashing device. Next time, I will burn it to ash!”

vs. Ryu (Street Fighter): “It’s incredible how two people with the same name can be completely different. Forgive me, this was a case of mistaken identity.”
Another play on how she’s closely associated with Ryu from Breath of Fire 2.

Heres what happens when X or any Megaman finnally gets in
X: ZERO!!!
Zero: Oh Hi X  hows it goin-
X: Hadoken!!

No, dude. It’s “HDKN!”, since he couldn’t say it properly on the old SNES sound gear of the time. However, the thought of him having this move makes me smirk because it would be a real ‘ToD Combo’.

i concur

Gotta Say it. Megaman NEEDS to be in this game…but you know someone who’s been sleeping for sometime…but is hands down one of the most AWESOME characters to ever grace our PS2s? You know who definitely deserves a game on current gen and could build SUPREME HYPE from the awesome gameplay possible from his moveset? None friggin other than Onimusha’s SAMANOSUKE AKECHI! (notes Galactus just poo’ed himself). I picture him being pretty straight up as far as things go, no fancy teleport or much in the way of zoning options, But I do see either an Amaterasu style weapon’s switch, or a Dante style 50+ moves. (votes weapon switch). Slightly above average health, A bit slower, counter special and super, level 3 Onimusha Warrior powerup, 10 hit slash level one super. He doesn’t use trickery to win. He looks his opponent in the eye and takes their head off with the Way of the Samurai. (wishes he knew about these votes before hand.)

Regrettably, Samanosuke has been explicitly commented on by Christian Svensson at Capcom. He’s not happening; they’re aware of the character but it won’t happen. Various other comments over the last year or so suggested it’s due to actor likeness and royalties they’d have to pay said actor if they used him. “He’s not happening for legal reasons” seems to be the answer.

Okay people, now is the time for action! Someone, anyone, please find a samurai! Someone that Capcom wouldn’t have to pay royalties for. (I’m not buying into this Vergil stuff. He’s more of a ninja. Cool, but not a samurai!)

My vote: Bishamon (Darkstalkers)

That corner loop will be all the rage. And by that, I mean it will make people rage.

If there was going to be a samurai type in this game as DLC I’d much sooner have somebody from Sengoku Basara but there’s no chance in hell that’ll happen.

http://s1.proxy05.twitpic.com/photos/large/422315621.jpg

look at this pic, its most likely fake due to the shading of Gambit, Cyclops and Black Widow, but they did get the sizes done right

No doubt about it it’s a very well made fake for the most part, but unfortunately (sorry Gene) it is still a fake and should be treated as such.

Cammy pretty much confirms that as a fake. Seriously, where the heck did she come from?

;_;
If only it was real.
