I think I overedited, but of course there’s nothing wrong with suggesting what you like, that’s the whole point. It’s kind of… arguing your case I guess that gets weird. I think maybe I’m just kind of being a jerk about it for some reason, so I’ll refrain
I can both see those characters getting somewhat into the design stage and falling apart for differing reasons.
Well, given her moveset and how she works in other games, Hsien-Ko should be rushdown. But it seems as if Capcom took some liberties to turn her into a keepaway or zoning character…
Actually, there’s been a pretty consistent flow of BoF content almost every year after V’s release:
2002: BoFV
2003: IV Cellphone game. V Artbook.
2005: Completed Works Artbook + Second Cellphone game. (I think)
2006: Breath of Fire OST Special Box + PSP BoF III.
2007: Second IV Cellphone game. Virtual Console BoF II.
2008: Third IV Cellphone game. IV Manga.
2010: Completed Works Artbook Resize.
2011: BoF IV on PSN.
So… what was that dead series we were talking about?
As for what Breath of Fire characters I would like to see, that’d be Garland from III and Ryu from V. Lots of potential for unique movesets and mechanics there, although, honestly, everyone from BoF has a lot of potential for a unique moveset, and I do mean everyone.
Best read in a horrible redneck accent: “Well now, looks like we’ve got us here one of them ‘importers’ who reads Japernese!”
…That was needlessly hostile. Let me try again, because I have a meaningful question here: Clearly you keep very up to date on the BoF series. I’m actually gearing up to play through the US released games soon in proper sequence, and wonder… can you tell me the correct chronology of the games? I hear it’s (first to last) 4, 3, 1, 2. Is this right?
I like BOF as much as the next person but honestly Nina is the only one with a shot from that series. Ryu wont get in because his name is Ryu. Think about it.
Actually, I don’t know much Japanese at all (trying to change that…). I just like to import BoF stuff that isn’t available in the U.S. The correct chronology is debatable, but it goes something like this:
-IV is considered to be first if you don’t see it as an alternate universe. The artbook (which I don’t have) apparently contains some hints that it might be the first game in the series, as well as some comments in the game’s ending.
-I is either second or first, depending on how you look at IV.
-II takes place 500 years after I.
-I don’t know when III takes place, but it is most likely after II, due to reasons that I won’t divulge because they would spoil the ending.
-V is confirmed to be an alternate universe.
Honestly, I highly recommend playing through III before I, due to the fact that a certain one-dimensional character was actually given a personality in III. Problem with that is, it can lead players to mis-interpret said character’s motivations, which makes the argument posed by the story a lot less interesting.
II and IV can be played through independently without much effect on other games in the series. Same goes for V, which, regardless of what people will tell you, is an excellent game. It’s just does things very, very differently from other RPGs in a fashion that is particularly good at inducing rage-quits.
I have thought about it, and this notion doesn’t sway me much. We already have Phoenix and Phoenix Wright, Hulk and She-Hulk, etc.
Now, it is true that Ryu (BoF) is a direct name match for Ryu (Street Fighter). There are easy ways around it. They could easily add a descriptive word to his name. “Dragon Ryu”, “Ryu of Fire”, etc.; it’s the sort of thing I would reasonably expect the MvC3 development team to be able to come up with some sort of decent solution during a random meeting. “Let’s spend fifteen minutes coming up with a name we can use to differentiate this Ryu from the other one,” and the ball gets rolling from there.
For that matter, is it even that big a problem? I’d like to believe consumers aren’t that stupid. I may be wrong. Still, even if they are… they should figure it out pretty quickly when someone tells them “No, that’s another guy also named Ryu, from Breath of Fire. No relation to the karate person. Kind of like how there is more than one person on this planet named Steve.” Worst case scenario, his name on the health bar would be “Ryu (BoF)” and that should clear up any confusion.
They could do something off the wall like old school British Psylocke, with the armor or pink Captain Britain era costume. Actually nm, that’s a horrible idea lol.
I wish you were right but I do believe you are giving the masses way to much credit. And yes we have Phoenix and Phoenix Wright but technically they could either use marvel girl or Jean and no one would care. Ryu is Ryu is Ryu…(Which one am I talking about?) See…
Oh yeah! I totally forgot! I should have voted for Bleu/Deis as well.
She IS a Sorceress and has that ‘odd’ sex appeal. Plus she would have a very interesting moveset if she was transferred to a game like UMVC3. Especially making use of her snake like body. Hmmm… the possibilities.
But damn… too late. =/ Oh well.
can someone explain to me why people are so obsessed with Psylocke? I understand she was popular is MVC2 but she’s a 90’s marvel character. Very few characters from then are still mentioned today.
