UMvC3 DLC Poll Results Discussion [aka Wishlist Thread]

That would be cool. Tessa really should be in this game, she would make a great Character that it is so hard to resist. If i where to choose between her or Megaman, i would choose her because i know her gameplay would be better. I care more about Tessa, Commando, and Jin than Megaman right now. The only X rep we should get is Sigma. There are so many reasons as to why.

  1. He would be unique and not have the same BnB as Arthur or classic megaman’
  2. He would be a great pair for Mags or Skrull
  3. Deik deserves his character

Sigma would be very unique in gameplay than Megaman. It is true that Megaman may be just like arthur in terms of BnB’s, because i’ve played MVC for so long, and arthurs gameplay is exactly the way Megaman played (in terms of BnB), spamming HP’s all over the place to keep the enemy out.

Mega Man does not need to be an Arthur clone. Bringing in X as opposed to simply “Classic” aka MvC2 Mega Man gives Capcom the chance for a completely fresh start. Everyone seems to forget that Volnutt played differently than MvC2 Mega Man as well.

X would only be limited by Capcom’s imagination.

Volnut is from TVC not MVC, and how is Megaman going to play different from Arthur in terms of BnB? Forget about combo’s and move sets, but talk about BnB. If Megaman was in, his S or H would be his buster. Unless they remove that, and make the buster a qcf+p or like Zero’s.

X could me made into whatever Capcom wanted. Look up a Youtube video of X vs KOS-MOS to find a match from a fan made game that displays a fraction of the kind of moves X could be capable of. It just takes some imagination. Yeah I could see him having a chargeable buster cannon like Zeros, but that is probably where the similarities would end.

IMO this MegaMan thing is a classic case of not giving a shit about something until it’s gone. Dude is Crash Bandicoot/Sonic status and has been for a while now. Capcom should just come out and say that they’re not putting X or any incarnation of Megaman in now and won’t consider it until the inevitable next iteration of this game.

Thanks for the video, it was very nice. However having a charged buster will give him a gameplay similar to Zero’s. Zero uses charged busters as part of his gameplay/strategy, so how is this going to make MMX unique? He is just more projectile oriented than Zero, that would make megaman a keepaway/zoning character and to balance him out, he will be weaker in close combat so why use him when Zero has projectile options and better rushdown options?

There has to be something where X’s buster is completely different from Zero in terms of gameplay. I would like X too, just to make it known but lets also be real here. How is he a better choice than Tessa, Sigma, or even Ruby Heart in terms of being a unique character?

…Gene

When they do the alt color segment for Zero, I hope he loses the blue alt.

I want to see the MM fans squirm at the idea of the color being removed meaning some form of MM is going to be in the game.

X has an eight way dash, fly, and hover. All thanks to his adapt system.

That not enough? His weapons can adapt to ANY playstyle in Marvel. Rushdown? Chain Strike and Spin Wheel. Keep away? Storm Tornado and Chameleon Sting. Zoning? Soul Body and Squeeze Bomb. These are merely examples, and these weapons can be charged. In the case of Chameleon Sting, you better be ready to get your ass kicked for a good five seconds because X is completely invincible in that time frame. Soul Body makes a clone of him, so I hope your ready for better than average clone shenanigans. X can utilize every command movement to his advantage, save for 360 movements.

X can’t combo? I’m pretty sure X can fight hand to hand easily with anyone from this game. BnBs? X could have much more than any character in the game, even Zero or Magneto even.

X’s supers? Don’t get me started. His lv.1 supers would probably be his Ultimate armor from Command Mission, a full screen super Giga Attack from X2, and an Armor power up from X4. Anyone remember that Armor? It gave X unlimited ammo for his weapons. Apply that here for charge attacks. Lv.3 would be X-series Ultimate Armor which gives you access to Nova Strike, which can be so fast, it could be considered free damage. Also, the X4 Ultimate Armor’s helmet acts like the in game helmet, unlimited ammo.

“But he will whine!” Possibly not thanks to the Maverick Hunter X retcon, where instead of hating fighting, he knows it must be done, and will do this regardless.

Yep, because TvC Volnutt played just like TvC Zero and they both had charge shots. Just alike. Yyyyyeeeeep.

@buster cannon, which was why Zero was a more popular and used character in TVC.

Here’s what i think would make Megaman X unique

His gameplay should revolve around his armors. Meaning to say, is making his armors the main meat of his gameplay. A regular form X will only have armor switching as supers (including that huge robot he uses in that KOS-MOS video), no beam/super fireball supers, just armor switching. Armors don’t have any timelimit, just meter costs and each Armor has it’s own move sets, supers, and level 3’s.

Some armors will give him crazy projectiles, while others would make him slow as fuck/immobile but with great vitality/armor and close range damage (like that huge Robot in the KOS MOS video), while one Armor makes him quick and good in rushdowns, yet has shit vitality.

As an assist, his assist changes depending on the armor he has. For example, a Normal X’s shot assist would be his buster, if i go into Falcon armor and tag him out, that assist will be a different projectile. This is cool IMO and not broken, because it will create a very unique strategy play. Some armors will make your shot assist really good, but there are other armors that will turn your shot assist into a crappy assist (yet have a good direct assist).

In terms of busters: X’s buster should be a special and not one of his fierces like in the past MVC’s. Maybe a qcf+p that can be charged (like Ryu’s invincible fireball), and can be unleashed in any direction ( vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) . To balance that and add the diversity between Zero’s buster, capcom should either make X Immobile during the charge, or the fireball doesn’t go full screen.

Edit: i think he can have a buster as part of his fierces, but make them small as hell. He can run with it like a machine gun, but it doesn’t combo or anything. It goes into normal sized when QCF’ed and then stronger with a QCF + P (hold)

X would be a character that requires allot of strategy and memory, making him a more complicated character than Zero and above all UNIQUE. There hasn’t been a fighting game character that is based on transforming. But this can work with EXE and Starforce too.

Just because two characters have a similar move doesn’t mean they’ll play exactly the same. That’s like saying Ryu and Akuma play exactly the same because they both have fireballs and hurricane kicks.

I could easily think of a unique moveset for X. Granted this is just off the top of my head and in no way reflects a balanced character, but here we go.

Spoiler

Fundamentals:
Same size as Zero
800k health
Can double jump
Can ground dash and air dash
Can perform three air actions
D+H is a slide, can be cancelled into launcher
Buster Charge: Pressing and holding any ATK button will cause X to begin charging his buster. Unlike Zero, however, simply releasing the button will not cause it to fire. In this manner, X can maintain a fully charged buster and fire it whenever he chooses. There are 3 phases of a Buster Charge.
Buster Shot: Pressing QCF+S will cause X to fire his regular Buster.
Light attack: X’s standing light will fire a small projectile shot from his arm cannon. The projectiles can be rapid fired, but he can only have 3 of them on the screen at once. They travel the full duration of the screen at average speed and have one point of durability.

Subweapons:
X can equip up to 3 different subweapons from a choice of 12 at any given time. They are selected by pressing DD+ATK. 3 will be assigned to light, medium and heavy respectively. You can alternate between them by pressing DD+ATK. Think Ammy stance switches. This can be done instantly, in the air or on the ground, and the loaded subweapons will be represented by an icon somewhere on the screen maybe.

Once a subweapon is loaded, it can be used by pressing QCF+ATK. If X has fully charged his buster, using a subweapon at this time will cause it to fire a ‘powered up’ version of itself, which will either do more damage or have different properties depending on the subweapon.

Other specials:
A Ryu-esque Dragon punch performed with SRK+ATK, can be cancelled into a buster shot. Can be performed in the air, cannot guard in the air after using.
A Ryu-esque Hurricane kick performed with QCB+ATK that keeps him stationary, can be cancelled into a buster shot. Can be performed in the air, will cease his forward momentum.

Supers:
(level 1)X-Cannon: A standard beam attack that covers the horizontal length of the screen. Can be used in the air at which it fires at a downward angle, similar to Akuma’s beam.
(level 1)Riding Armor: X calls down a suit of riding armor that appears in front of him. As the armor lands, it OTGs, but X cannot combo off of it without use of an assist. Being in the armor disables X’s ability to charge his buster or fire his subweapons. The armor grants him 20% reduced damage and will take about 300k damage before becoming disabled and eventually exploding. It lasts 10 seconds, after which it will become disabled and eventually explode. The explosion will harm X and the opponent. X can jump out of the armor by pressing QCF+S, which will cause it to clock down and eventually explode on its own.

The armor itself has super armor on its grounded normals, it can super jump, dash and air dash. It has a dash punch special that causes a wallbounce and can be used to extend combos.
(level 3) X-Armor: X summons his powered up X Armor. As he summons it, it causes area damage similar to Iron Man’s proton cannon that will send the opponent into an untechable spin. The X-Armor lasts 20 seconds, during which X cannot build meter. X gains a 10% bonus to offense and defensive power. He gains the ability to fly, the ability to perform an air dash attack (fans of the series know what this move is) and while in the armor, all of his buster and subweapon shots are automatically fully charged. Tagging X out during this mode will cause him to retain the power up and enhance his assists.

Assists:
X’s assists are his fired subweapons, one for each assist. He will fire whatever subweapon he had loaded at the time he was tagged out. If he had nothing loaded, he will fire a charged buster shot. If he was tagged out while in X-Armor mode, his assists will come out fully charged.

Edit: Just read Cisco’s proposed moveset, love it too. The point is that X could be totally unique, it just depends on the work Capcom wants to put into him.

Crash Bandicoot is completely dead and ‘Sonic’-status is not something much other series can achieve. Megaman is on the edge of the line that separates those franchises from alive ones and his series are good enough to not warrant it. Too bad Capcom thinks otherwise. I was kind of iffy about Megaman Universe but MML3… well everyone knows by now about that game.

This. X has the potential to be THE most busted character in fighting game history. More than Phoenix or ST Akuma. The potential X has is simply unfair compared to just about every character that IS in MvC3.

That…doesn’t make any sense at all. The fact that they both have a charge shot doesn’t mean they play alike. Zero was a great character in TvC due to his priority normals, his ability to rush down and build meter, and his nice damage potential. Volnutt on the other hand, was a high-execution stance-changing character, and wasn’t played as much due to his unorthodox and complex playstyle. Both were amazing characters (I main the latter), but they had different characteristics and were totally different aside from both having a charge shot. Heck, their charge shots didn’t even work the same way!

I mean , that’s like saying Ryu and Gouken play the same because they both have a Hadouken. Seriously?

However, it does take time to build a good concept and actually engineer the design of something so ass kicking and unique which is probably an added problem for why Megaman can’t be in the game. Every single Megaman move suggestion has him with a TRUCK LOAD of cool moves; moves where you imagine great visuals and all that gameplay shit. I’ve worked in game companies before and they do take time to design, and none of them are as numerous as Megaman X’s. With the armor switching etc. There is allot of conceptualization and testing, and anybody with experience and understanding in the industry can imagine the conceptualization and designing of Megaman X. There is allot of politics in concerns of sale target dates and project time order that can hinder or cause complications for the process to even step out of conceptualization stage.

So you guys need to understand how it can’t just be done, regardless of “well dante or strange got this and that, they can do it with X…” It could have been an X or dante decision and Dante could have won the capcom favor of who to produce first or instead due to project constraints.

Gene would kick any version of Megaman’s ass to the moon and back.

Thrice.

All I have to say about this whole X thing is this:

“You know what would make a zoning character with a smaller-than-average hitbox totally different from Arthur? ARMOR MECHANICS.”

Also I would really love to see Tessa, even if it’s only in Dr. Strange’s ending.

There has to be something going on with the whole megaman fiasco. Capcom is treating questions about him in the same demeanor as they treated questions about DLC before they announced UMvC3. I find it very hard to believe that megaman could consistently place so high on numerous charts and have capcom ignore that so blatantly. In my opinion they are either saving him for DLC after the game is released so they can have a strong selling point on their post-game additions, knowing that people will PROBABLY pay for him, OR the megaman blunder is deeper than they are leading people to believe and there is some issue as to why they won’t or can’t include megaman in UMvC3. Again, this is me just speculating however and putting in my two cents.

This. It’s about time some one told the truth. You guys think that Capcom didn’t think of those move set ideas for Megaman X? The problem with some people is that they think creating a video game character is like typing move sets and ideas in MS Word and then POOF there it is. If you want Capcom to make a good Megaman X then you need to take in consideration that capcom will need the time to design Megaman X the way every suggests and wishes. All companies have a project deadline chart because that is how they stay constant in the market, they don’t just extend deadlines out of will or due to new good ideas, it’s either it can meet the deadline or it gets canned.

Character similarities should only end with Ryu and Akuma, because these guys have been in the series; we do not need more characters with same move sets like those two. Should we put Ken now based on the “well they did Ryu and Akuma, so it shouldn’t matter with X and Zero” logic, i can say that Guile, Charlie and Ken should be in the game because of being popular street fighter characters, and we already have 4 characters who have identical features so why not?

@Bustercannon, Volnut was not a complicated character in TVC, that wasn’t a reason why he wasn’t picked. He was completely redundant to use when Zero was allot better than him.
