My dream would be chipping a full health Phoenix to death in the corner with four and a half bars. It would be amazing.
I read this somewhere before but has it been tested out yet? is the execution the same as wesker’s. If true Chris will be a much more effective anchor.
All week I’ve been trying to cr.H into Sweep Combo and I keep cursing at myself because it doesn’t work. Now I come in here and read this and I want to punch myself in the face… I knew it didn’t work before, but for some stupid reason it dawned upon me that it actually did. I hope a Satellite Beam boulder punches me in the face.
Yeah you can only do cr.H into sweep combo with a Team Hyper Combo. Its THC capable just like Wesker’s samurai edge shot. However you have to have Combination Punch H as your assist other wise it’ll be Chris’ Grenade Super Instead.
But what I was saying about Chris’ air shot into Air Gun Shot H. That shit combos and it does really good chip damage. Just watch this video and see how much chipping Chris does without any X-Factor at all.
He’s crazy. Skip to the 3 minute mark.

Let’s be honest with ourselves here… That was incredibly boring to watch.
AKA a good character. I don’t even know if the guy actually plays as Chris but just Chris as a character chipping like that is crazy in that sort of aspect.
Wait till LL.ND gets a hold of the game. It ain’t gonna be boring then.
Spoiler
It’s gonna be terrifying
I personally don’t like pistol cancel into Special. I feel like it’s a complete step in the wrong direction for what Chris really needs which is some for of AA (Reliable… Landmine exploding just because Wolverine Dive Kicked me is ****ing stupid).
I’d be very surprised if that’s how Chris ends up being played. That seems like one of those things that will get you killed if you spam it. I do like that it makes his antizoning much, much faster. I’m looking forward to doing fM into a firegrenade. Hopefully it can help him cover his grenades by himself a little.
As for the no AA, if he becomes the master of the ground (and if I can turn the stage into a lake of fire, he just may be), I’m OK with it. The creativity in the game comes with each character’s flaws being covered by your other two characters’ assists. Decent anti-airs still exist (I think). I think we’ll be alright.
S-Tier have no glaring flaws which is what makes them S-Tier. Chris has flaws, and as long as those flaws get to sit on his back, those two assist are nothing but extra meat waiting to be punished by characters who don’t.
Don’t forget his new wavedash. That and f+M is gonna make his ground control a lot better. We should see some new tricks with otg cr.H+grenades/fire grenades.
I completely agree with this. But I have to balance doing well in the game and having fun, and I can’t have fun if I’m not creative. I get very frustrated with the game sometimes, and i hate the tiers as much as you do, but there is no balancing this game unless they start taking things away from characters, which they’re not going to do.
Good point. With Chris, I do best when I force a superjump and mixup on the way down or create a minefield and try to stay inside it. If he can create something close to a more effectively “safe zone”, even Weskers and Dantes will be up in the sky (hopefully). They always have to come down eventually, right?
If a wesker is smart, he’s gonna keepaway with super jump gun+teleport and stop you from creating your safe zone. On wesker/wolvie/trish, it’s best to throw fire grenades, or landmine(if you can confirm they’ll touch it), and keep moving to lob more 'nades.
I try to do those things, but I tend to get stuffed by pressure, but I just need to be straight up better. Better identify the safe(ish) opportunities, and such.
Anyway, this is good info, thank you. The Chris/Wesker matchup is a source of much consternation for me. I’m always grateful for new tactics.
Either way, I may run into you at WNF one of these days. Don’t be surprised if I stand over your shoulder creepily and steal all of your tech.
You’re right NefariousJoe, and to be honest, the one and only thing I really want for Chris is that landmines only explode if the prime time-limit has run out or someone steps on them; no more of this ‘I hit you from an air dash overhead/dive kick and it exploded without hitting me’ bullcrap.
There’s a reason LL.ND uses Hsien-Ko on his team, and it’s not just because he’s a low tier hero. When a match between Chris and anyone in high-tier starts, your best bet is to build 2 bars as fast as you can without letting them touch you, Grenade Hyper->Golden Armor DHC after high-lob grenade, and hard tag Chris back in. You now have an anti-high-tier tool at your disposal that works incredibly well and also an assist that can extend your combos since you no longer have to play pure mix up guessing games to stay alive. Hsien-Ko also stays out long enough to allow you to get a zoning game setup, applies cross-up potential on an incoming character (Wave-Dash below them), and can compliment Chris fairly well DHC wise.
Then again, you can always use Haggar or Tron… But unlike high-tier, they don’t let Chris turn the fight around like Hsien-Ko does.
The biggest problem with MvC3 has always been that it’s one of the most fun game to watch, but not as fun to play, especially competitively. Also when you are trying to use someone like Chris against a herp derp top tier like Wolverine. If making the game more boring to watch means you can actually have fun double gunning people with Chris I don’t see why anyone should complain.
I didn’t find anything boring about that, but maybe that’s just me.
Same here, maybe because I already play like that.
You do… I can’t believe I didn’t even notice. Not to say I don’t try to play a chip game like you, but I surely prefer the more aggressive LL.ND style of Chris.
No fear, no mercy.
You know what would be nice to see? New lines for Chris. He’s so bland in everyway. I mean Skrull has the awesome “You should stick to fighting zombies!” and Chris responds with…“Gimme a sitrep.” His interaction with Jill is completely emotionless, which makes it seem awkward and out of place. He also apparently has nothing to say to Nemesis, who stalked down his partner and killed a former teammate. He can’t say “This one’s for Brad!” Took me 2 seconds to come up with that and it’s better than what we get. None of this is really relevent but I would like to see the boulder puncher get a little personality for a change.
