UMvC3 Captain America Changes Thread **Only new information**

what about ABC S j. H L shield slash (land) charging star, relaunch H S (land) otg light slash, hyper charging star.
the normal charging star has invariable hitstun so we should be able to whip something better up.

Try this one, should work for midscreen in UMvC3:

A, B, C, S, j.H, Up + j.H, a.L Shield Slash (SS), land, Up + j.H, M SS, L Charging Star (CS), S, Up + H, a.L SS, land, L CS, H CS, Hyper CS.

From midscreen, this should carry the opponent all the way to the corner.

I’m curious to see if the Vanilla corner combo (A, B, C, S, a.M, a.M, Down + H, a.L, Down + H, L CS, M, M, S, a.M, a.H, S) will still work. If Cap’s corner combo is retained in UMvC3, it’ll be the best solo corner combo to maximize damage output Day 1. The relaunch can end with a L SS, Hyper. Buuuuut…this is assuming nothing changed about that part.

At the very least, we can mash Hyper Charging Star for extra damage. I wonder if it’s the same for Hyper Stars and Stripes and Final Justice. On that note, I wonder if mashing a normal CS gets extra damage too.

I want to find out how Cap works in ultimate soooo bad it’s almost worth driving to NY to attend Comicon for that alone. If there wasn’t a wedding on the 16th I already said I’d attend…I’d guarantee that I’d be in NY next weekend. :frowning:

Still going through the video from last night since I couldn’t watch all of it live due to early work start times. It did make me grin chesshire style though seeing two people choosing Cap on the select screen for something other than a button check. :smiley:

EDIT: Official upgrade for UMvC3 CapAm, anything that feels like it SHOULD work, does. Grabs to OTG super works, jump H double jump to blockstring/grab works, cartwheel with invincibility is super strong…

And if you like Vergil he seems vicious behind Cap. Strongly recommend it.

why is everyone playing cap on point only?

He works best with assists to help cover his weaknesses like lack of self-otg or helping with covering his cartwheel. He’s a lot more self reliant in UMvC3 though. Depending on if his assists were changed to something worthwhile people may play him as other than point.

well in ultimate (such as norcal vs capcom), Cap was well represented but literally only on point. Im thinking cap/hawkeye/virgil and have no idea about order thats all.

I am going to try Virgil/Cap/Strange when it comes out. All the videos out so far has given me some combos I want to try out.

I just recently started playing cap on point, usually i play him in the middle spot. Deadpool/Cap/Sentinel

He still lacks tools to be an anchor. And natural leader like Steve will bring out the best in any team since he always has ways of using his team mates assists. Simple :slight_smile:

True. The backflip cross-up is a big part of Cap’s game and is only going to get bigger due to the changes in Ultimate.

In the iplaywinner stream no one used double jump combos, and especially I didn’t see any use of cartwheel. But we could already see Steve Rogers finally recived the super soldier frame data serum from capcom.

SS is amazingly faster.

I think it’s an exaggeration to say Cap can’t be an anchor now. With his overall speed improvements and grab > self OTG > XFC sorts of combos he’s probably very capable of tearing through teams in XFC.

Because of his high, quick damage output and likely one of the longer XFC’s (Seth said apparently XFC LENGTH is character specific, seems very capcom to give a character that used to be bad a good XFC time), he can probably easily run strong low/grab mix up on a number of characters rather safely with the huge frame advantage he gets off his XFC jab and XFC SS.

Double Jump will give him better pressure game and give him his much needed high low mixup game. But all this is too early to say, I still can’t see him as anchor worthy, he definitely has an easier time getting in and converting anything into solid damage. We’ll see how the game develops, I could be wrong, I just doubt I’ll be wrong is all. Let’s hope Chris Evans comes through with his new buffs.

Well just a little teaser for you, from very brief tests, grab > OTG Super seems to do around 700-800k in XFC3. I think he’ll be fine as anchor.

Also I don’t think he has a high low game at all, even still.

All you have to do to get a high/low with Captain America is jump forward and hit S or d+H while in air. They cross up also so it’s technically a 4 way mix up and you can fake them so they whiff and go for low. You guys act like Captain America is Arthur or something. LOL. Plus the buff to his cartwheel with the supposed 5 frames of full invincibility is going to set up easy Zero/Wolvie style call assist left/right shit.

The buffs to Captain America will make it so he’ll be more useful in the 2nd spot since he wont need an OTG assist anymore. His shield slash assist is definitely one of the best assists in the game IMO because the gap in it allows for really nice mix ups where the opponent has to guess if you’re going to teleport/command dash behind them on the first hit or 2nd hit. Captain America needs an assist to keep his charging star safe and assist+charging star is extremely important to extend Captain America’s block strings. Captain America in general is mostly based around mid screen zoning and create long frame traps/block strings with assists and charging star that allow him to dash through advance guards and set up throw/c.L mix ups.

I still don’t see Captain being the BEST anchor because his normals outside of c.L will still be pretty negative on block and he can’t make charging star safe on block without assists. It won’t be terrible now that he can get damage off throws solo…but it won’t be Wesker/Wolverine/Magneto good or nothing. Captain America needs assists to do block strings so not really a lot of logic in using him as anchor.

the “problem” with the “high low” you speak of is for one - they can’t push block the s (which happens a lot particular with assists) which means you probaly dont have anything to “lock them in” once you hit them with the air down h instant overhead. W/o an assist he can’t actually COMBO against the vast majority of the characters off his instant overhead without an assist.

Sure you get one, but meh damage at best.

Sometimes you’ll get it off a jumping S then call assist then jumping instant overhead and it works

It’s not even like Captain America really NEEDS high low. He can force buttons out of people pretty easily now that he can get damage off his throws. That’s a big buff to his game overall now that he can frame trap people with long block strings make them worry about ground throws into damage. Especially when he has a 4 frame c.L that is pretty much as fast as it gets when it comes to speed in normals and one of the longer ranged c.L’s in the game. Now that Captain can get damage off throws without an assist there’s really no excuse for not being able to open people up. Especially now that carthweel is invincible at start up and will set up left/rights with assists more easily. He’s still going to be able to hit confirm any random shield slash from half way across the screen into full combos as usual also.

now that he has options off throws and things that’s a MASSIVE MASSIVE improvement, i’m more referring to how it’s a ridiculous problem for the current cap - although i s’pose this IS the ultimate thread :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
