Umm... Next year suggestion thread... Or something

Next year try and see if you can work an internet radio thing (like Alphaism) more into the fold, having someone do it from there live, or something, because it was very fun to be able to hear it as it was happening.

Bingo! It’s just like having someone overstate the obvious… we’re all in the room, we can all see what’s going on, there’s really no need for it.

And I think James saying "ok, well the reason you didn’t find it good is because he’s known at Family Fun, well that’s kind of the point, that’s a small community of people who “get the joke”. I think in this case the majority of people in he room didn’t find it necessary, and perhaps more distracting than anything hearing someone state the obvious over and over. It might be more entertaining on DVD (with an option to shut it off if wanted), but in a live setting, hearing anything other than people being introduced to the stage and any after game commentary on who’s advancing, who’s been eliminated, etc., isn’t really needed.

wtf are you talking about. The finals were boring as fuck. I for one appreciated the commentary despite the booing of all the fat ass nerds in front of me

Taking evo back to Cali is not a good look. Vegas is part of the appeal of the tourney. Plus is feels good that not only EC has to travel to come to the tourney.

If EVO ever gets aired on TV, then commentary will be good (and made so that only people on TV can hear it). Although I didn’t like Rock, I think most of us had a problem with commentary in general.

of course, if the commentary was some japanese guy yelling random japanese things, most people would do nothing but praise.

also if by “random things”, you mean a play-by-play

wait, isn’t that what everybody here is complaining about?

OMG HOW DO THOSE JAPANESE PLAYERS CONCENTRATE

unless you’ve never played a fighting game with more than one other person before, you should be used to people talking in the background by now. seriously, do you guys play your casuals in complete silence?

i do agree that more in-depth commentary between matches/rounds would be interesting, but doing that without possibly giving away important information to either party might be tricky

u definitely don’t want to give away people’s tactics before the match is played…I think best case is just recap the round or game after it’s over, and save the hardcore commentary for the dvd or such.

I’m also glad ppl tried to eieieie during yun combos and got owned by silence.

I was the one trying to “ey!” because no one really cheered for the Japanese. =(

you guys should work on setting up play by play as an option for the DVD.

i thought the alphaism commentary on the sanford-duc match was really good bar the poor sound which was a result of bad reception and lots of background noise.

if you could record some high quality audio commentary during the finals and exhibitions it would add a lot to the credibility of the events and help people who dont understand certain games to be able to follow whats going on.

im sure there are alot of people who buy the dvd sets but dont even watch certain games which they dont play…

wait there, are there gonna be DVDs this year? or was evo2k5 the death of the dvd?

The event’s MC should keep quiet through most of the match though, you dont see michael buffer doing play by play during a damn boxing match.

I thought the commentary was nice, especially with KSK co-announcing for the Japanese players.

That aside, however, I wasn’t too keen on the new pools. Having huge pools pretty much guarantees that you’ll be facing at least a few top players right off the bat and, while that’s not so bad, it can be quite discouraging to know that only two will qualify into semis while playing in a pool with both Daigo and Ohnuki. I wasn’t so lucky with my match-ups this year, so I only got to play two games before I was eliminated. The EVO2k5 pools guaranteed you at least four games.

lol tell me about it. I was in CvS2 Pool E. For the roster call… the guy’s like “Whose Phil?”. I raise my hand. He says “Ok you’re against BAS”. I sighed and some random dude reached out between multiple people’s shoulders and pats me on the back with a “that sucks dude” face lol. Ahh good times at Evo.

I think this is a pretty good idea. Like Buk said, doing pre/post match analysis might not be a great idea so that you don’t give away too much info to the opposing players, but having something like that on the DVD would be pretty cool.

how about less elitism (pretty please) and more acknowledgment of a very common public agreement on certain elements being not so good

Hey, weepel. Care to be more specific and give examples? I’d love to hear them, so we can be more wary of these things. I can’t think of anything we did in particular.

commentary is dope

who cares? i assume by important information you mean tendancies, mixups, playstyle etc… Sportscasters do just that. they analyze teams and players for the enjoyment of their viewers but who is to say that some future opponent can’t use that information?

and McFly, i dont see why youre complaining because at least you got to play against a japanese player and a great one at that. sure it sucks that youre gonna go straight into losers but at least you got a shot at someone great instead of scrubbing out. I had Kindevu first round and i definitely want a rematch with that marrafucka.

Sportscasters do it yeah, but not necessarily where the players can hear it.

I had to play kindevu also. it was rough but fun.

Oh, I wasn’t complaining… was hoping that post was light-hearted enough but I guess it wasn’t. I lose to great (not just good) players every year in 3S & CvS2 (mostly)… I’d be complaining if I lost to random scrubs.

You have one of the coolest AV’s on SRK. Someone make me an avatar like that, but instead of a crazy dude, I want a massive, pulsating penis.
