Umehara is considering Gouki as his new main

Man…I have to say watching some rare footage of Daigo’s Akuma, i can tell he will be very good with this character.

One Akuma match here. Nothing special though. No disrespect but his opponent was not good.

Wait what? I thought the palm nerf killed Akuma to the point where he was unplayable

That isn’t 2012 Daigo’s playing so the palm nerf isn’t in effect yet.

Yes… but he’s not putting in all this practice with Akuma for no reason… unless you think it’s all for Canada Cup lol.

He’s also practicing Ryu.

Daigo has accepted he will need to change characters so he is obviously exploring his options. If the Akuma nerfs stick he will probably go with Ryu.

'sup Westl0

This is a good point - maybe we’ll see some Umehagouki at Canada Cup ? o_O

sup gamogo!

I really hope he does, since Yun is boring to watch and all his effort with Gouki will go to waste if he ends up choosing Ryu or whoever in 2012. He needs to unleash that Akuma in a major event…

Mmh anyone care to explain why he went for Tatsu FADC instead of fireball? I mean at that point he chose 64+56 damage over 48+70 - stun wise it’s even worse, 80+70 vs 80+140. It’s even harder to do that.

In that combo practice video greg (<3) uploaded he was also seen practicing that combo. Can’t see the point honestly, aside from those cl.st.MP setups we got on Abel (and those didn’t involve tatsu FADC iirc). What could’ve followed st.MP? Would cr.MP reach there?

That guy was ass, all the nerfs in the world couldn’t have prevented that.

He was using Evil Ryu in the location test… I think all the hints point to him picking up Akuma to prepare for using Evil Ryu in 2012, especially with Evil Ryu looking very strong. At the very least you know for sure that Daigo will tier whore to some powerful character and all the nerfs in Akuma makes him suddenly picking up him as a main look very strange and out of character.

Even with Akuma’s nerfs, I don’t see Evil Ryu being better than him (specially because his sweep got back to 7f instead of 6).

I feel the main reason Daigo is considering Akuma is because he doesn’t have terrible matchups, Ryu still has Sim and I don’t think Evil Ryu does well in that matchup as well.

Didn’t you see how Uryo absolutely destroyed Tokido in both Godsgarden and Season’s Beatings? Sakura definitely is a terrible matchup for Akuma.

Well that’s news to me and pretty much everyone else on this board lol

Terrible = 7-3 and worse

There’s no way in hell one can now say it’s that bad for Akuma vs Sakura!! Uryo is GODLIKE, he IMO has one of the absolute best reactions I’ve ever seen, he AA on reaction with jump attacks like it’s nothing.

There aren’t many top Sakura players now, look at Akuma Vs Rufus, people used to think it was bad for Akuma, then Tokido came up with a different plan against him and things have changed ever since, I bet if Tokido works more on this matchup and gets more experience vs Sakura, he’ll do a lot better.

I’m not for the “Uryo’s godlike” thing. I mean he definitely is (even more lol) and I love watching him destroy people with a once-thought low tier, but the same could be said with Tokido and Akuma, if not for him who knows how the Demon would fare at tourneys. AA with cl.HP (3f startup) and cr.HP (4f startup) may look incredible because there’s only one player playing the character at top levels, but those moves are so fast it’s not impossible at all to do that. Sako did exactly the same with cl.HP with Cammy (4f startup), and without any effort.

About the matchup: totally agree, no way it’s that hard, Sakura is still freeish on wakeup as long as she doesn’t have 3 bars - even there, her only reversal is too slow. Some characters have a harder time then her (like crossups options beaten by her normal), but it’s still tough for her.

Still, it’s pretty much granted that it’s not in Akuma’s favor anymore, Sakura pulverizing us with a single combo, st.HK not hitting anymore 2 times, wonky hitboxes which make EX Tatsu glitch, no more escape tatsu to reset momentum etc. She may have the edge at ultra elite level, but it’s nothing hard like a 7-3 matchup would suggest.

I didn’t mean ground normals BTW, that’s even easier than SRK lol, I meant I’ve seen him AA with air to airs (j.mp mostly IIRC) on reaction pretty often, That’s not easy to do.

Lol I totally missed the “jump” part sorry! :E

Is AA with normals that hard? I thought that was the first way scrubs try to deal with jump-ins - look for them, insta jump with a favorable normal. On some characters (Chun’s the first one to come to my mind) that may be even better than AA’ing with normals.

AA with jump normals isn’t even hard unless you are Akuma lol

Another match here.

Tokido would have bodied this dude lol, shows that even Daigo can’t pickup a character and be insta-godlike with him, he’ll be a beast if he stuck with the demon though.

Basically it’s “throw j.mp out there and hope they didn’t already press a button”

Man, is there any character in the game with less active frames then Akuma? I was thinking about this when checking his air normals.

Random Ultra aside he thought he had time to jump, someone has to tell him cr.MK xx fireball is not a true blockstring. Teleport to get out of the corner was bonkers, pretty sure he let the guy win.
