Ken seems “easy” compared to Makoto
Yang is about the same though. Just under Makoto, worse than Chun imho.
totally agree.
uh, i dont think so. I think Hugo is a hard matchup as well, i mean you are talking about opposites here: the character who does crappy damage and relies on landing 15-20 hits on a match to win it vs the guy who can deliver the most damage in single moves (standing mp, standing fp, jumping fp, jumping rh, palms and grabs). Not to mention their staminas too, Hugo has increased stamina (and can further increased it by taunting) while Twelve receives more damage than most characters.
Maybe mark the training-mode only combos?
I’m not actually sure whether or not you can juggle following an EX dash punch in that combo… I need to check.
EDIT: You can’t land that SAII following the EX dash punch, even with Maximum meter in training mode; in fact, following the wall bounce you already see the combo counter appear on the screen.
Here’s a surprisingly un-useless combo that works anywhere, on anyone:
short C&DB, (walk forward), SAII, fierce dash punch
Heavy characters like Hugo don’t need you to walk forward, but most of the characters who are that heavy are better dealt with with SAI. The “walk forward” bit of course varies between characters, but it’s not that hard to figure out.
Man… Since I started to play Q I’d never played against a Chun. I finally did and it was honestly frustrating. I dont see wha’t Q has to use against Chun evar!!!
Any help?
I think he just wrote them down wrong is all…
So instead it should be:
Roundhouse c&db, jab overhead dash punch, [strong dash punch x SAII]/ex dash punch (Sean, Akuma, Chun, Makoto, Ryu, Dudley, Elena, Ken)
Roundhouse c&db, strong overhead dash punch, [strong dash punch x SAII]/ex dash punch (Yun, Yang, Ibuki, Oro)
Those work…
Although, is the meter for the EX dash punch worth it in these combos? I never do them… no real reason, just figured I’d save my meter. If I’m gonna EX dash punch, might as well do it after the c&db for the ol’ tired and true B&B combo. yes? no?
Yeah, good catch guys.
The reason to do the c&db, overhead dash punch, ex dash punch combo is for positioning, like if you want to be right up on the opponent if you want to be active and/or rush him down. Doing two dash punches will move both you and your opponent quite a ways toward the corner, which is good, and ending it with an ex dash punch will make the opponent end up right in front of you, but you’ll still get a chance to taunt. So, it’s a good thing to do if you have meter to burn. I rarely do this with SAII, but that’s mostly because the characters I use SAII on are hard to hit with c&dbs in the first place. If I’m using SAI, then whatever, I’ll use the meter. I don’t think losing meter is that big of a deal, especially if you get good positioning out of it, thereby setting yourself up to do some damage and get some meter back anyway.
No way bro. Q is way better than Sean. I would say Q > Twelve > Sean
Q vs. Sean would favor Q alot. Q vs. Twelve though I think would favor Twelve though to be honest.
Uh… i think this whole deal was already discussed, with neither parts giving in. anyway i agree with LiSyaoran that Sean > Q > Twelve.
UltraDavid: I won against a friend’s Urien using random wakeup super (sa1). the thing is, i almost never do wakeup super, but since any character playing against Q must keep the pressure i guess he didn’t see the super coming. also, everytime urien got me in the corner i escaped with the dash punch while he jumped, i think it’s a good tip.
Yep, random supering should definitely be one of the tools in your arsenal, just realize that you shouldn’t bring it out to play all that often. The main reason to do it, really, is to make your opponent afraid that you’ll do it. If it hits, awesome, now your opponent has less life and is more afraid. If it doesn’t, oh well, at least your opponent knows that you’re capable of it and he’ll think twice about doing a meaty attack the next time. As for trying to escape the corner with a dash punch, it’s a fine idea against some characters, I just don’t think it’s that good against Urien. When Urien has you in the corner, he’s probably not gonna be jumping up as you wake up (unless he’s expecting a random super… booya!), he’s probably gonna be trying to Aegis you, combo you into Aegis, throw you back into the corner and then Aegis you, and so on. But hey, if you’re facing some dude who likes to jump as you’re waking up, and you see him do it, then yeah, dash punch right on out of there. Of course, meter-less Urien doesn’t really have any way to punish you if he jumps over a whiffed SAI, so think about that too, if you wish.
I love using SAI as anti-air…
Dunno why it works so well, seems like it should be difficult to time… but I’ll take it anyhow.
the thing is sometimes when urien corners an opponent and has not aegis yet he neutral jumps in wake up and do j.rh, mp, tackle xx aegis just to gain enough meter for the aegis to come out. then is where is escape. sometimes i super jump and go air to air with j.fp or j.rh
Surely you jest!!
I’ll take any Sean player, throw me the best Sean player out of Japan (if there is one) and he’ll fall to my Q. Hell I played some dude at Evo who was really fuckin’ good with Sean … After I beat him he pulled out Ken and I realized Sean was his fuckaround character … none the less.
Let’s put it this way. Do you honestly believe, in a million years, a Sean player could have sat down Justin and Ricky at SBO??
Sean has no mixups, shitty supers, shitty specials, shitty everything. Q at least has good pokes, a very good kara throw, decent CDB mind games, and good damage potential off of parries. And super high defense. Sean don’t got shit. He’s a raped shoto with nothing and Q is way better. In the words of Stan Lee 'Nuff Said.
Sean has acceptable normals, decent supers, and an ok mixup game. He has some big problems, like the fact that he can’t deal damage without super, it’s hard for him to build meter, he doesn’t have a good reversal, and his specials generally blow, but he’s playable nevertheless. You can still use him to beat good players using good characters. I beat KOFiend and Exodus with him at VTyme, as you may recall. As for him being better than Q, I don’t know, I think Q is at least even with him, if not maybe a little better.
jeez, i thought you will let it go with your sbo “example”. the thing is no one plays sean because as you already said he is the worst shoto out of 4. so if you want to play a shoto you pick ken, if you wanna choose a not so strong shoto you pick ryu or akuma, why bothering with sean? if Gill was playable the Urien players would greatly reduce, if there was another Urien-like character better than Urien besides Gill then no one would pick Urien. Q style is unique, that’s why ppl choose him. the vs matchup doesnt determine tiers. like if ryu has advantage against dudley that doesnt put him above dudley in tiers.
but, i know that ultimately anything i say won’t change your mind, which i dont intend to do, so lets end it here. you say Q is better than Sean, im ok with it, i say the contrary. dont try to reply with more arguments.
Whoa, you did? Where was I? Probably smoking…
Lol I just kept lighting up in the room I didn’t even care. Me and KOfiend just didn’t give a damn.
Well the SBO example like you said really doesn’t mean anything from a theoretical standpoint, but regardless, Sean isn’t even capable of a beatdown like you saw Kuroda give to Ricky and Justin. Q may be low tier, but compared to Sean he just has sooo much more to offer.
I am really curius to see where Japanese charts place Sean. I could give a shit what America thinks of him. Wheres Pyrolee? (he swooped into another thread w/ the Japanese top tier ranking chart). If Japan tells us that Sean is better than Q I’ll shut my mouth, until then, Q is #1 (amoung the bottom tier lol).
In Japan Makoto is #2 behind Yun, then Ken and Chun btw. Just food for thought.
Heh, yeah, I took a few in a row from them with Sean. It was just in casuals after the tournament had ended though, nothing riding on the matches or anything.
I love Kuroda, but for much of that SBO tourney, he was getting beaten and then saved by Hayao; he rarely beasted, it’s just that he did so pretty awesomely in those two matches against Ricky and Justin. So it’s kind of unfair to pick that out and say, look, this is what Q can do. Q CAN do that, sure, but any character CAN do that. No matchup in 3S is anything like 10-0 or 9-1 and only a small handful are near 8-2, so anyone CAN beast. Sean CAN own up high-level players using high tier characters, I’ve done it myself (not that my matches at VTyme were ownage, I’m talking about at FFA and other SoCal arcades). It’s just that with both Sean and Q, you’re probably not gonna be owning up too often.
This’ll be the last post I make on this subject, I’ve already posted too much. I’d like this thread to be devoted to how to play Q, not to debates about tiering and the like.
I played Exo like once and I got a perfect on his Dudley with my Q. I know he was sandbagging though. Why people do that is beyond me. Even in casuals come on at least try for god sakes. Some people have no honor.
You probably sandbagged on me to you bastard!! J/k, but you did get further than me at the tourney.
huh???
this has been a hard match-up for me lately. For some reason I’ve played maybe 2 Remy players on-line this week. Which is alot for me including the 5000 Ken players. But they always out-range me, keep a good ground game and just lock me down. I can’t think of a good way to get close, nothing even risky to maybe get close and do damage. I mean nothing lol.
Yeah I played on xbox live for a while after AE first came out, and let me just say, 3s is way different (crappier) online. Remy, along with Urien and Akuma (if I recall correctly), seemed the most improved online as compared to their offline selves, and things were even harder for Q. I don’t know if the “tiering” or whatever online has changed in the half a year or so since the game was released, but I remember thinking that. So, sorry, don’t know much about how to beat Remy online, but I’ll post my thoughts on the offline matchup on the first page pretty soon.
that’s ok if it’s off-line man, thanks.
