UltraDavid's How-to Q Thread

If the connection isn’t good enough to parry in, it’s GGPO for Q vs. Remy.

Man I just d/led the sbo3 vids and realized how badly Kuroda played. Hayao is the one that beasted everyone after Kuroda got raped.

on behalf of both KOFiend and myself, i’d like to say that it offends us both to a great extent that people would bring up casuals to boost their reputation. i’m fairly certain that both of us were playing to shit around. if you’d like to prove otherwise, please do so at NEC. thank you for your time. <3

and then ParryAll says yeah, they were probably just messing around, to which I tacitly agreed:

Which is what I do, generally. I meant no offense and certainly didn’t want to boost my reputation. That’s not what this thread is about. I just wanted to show that, in fact, Sean can beat good players, and I mentioned a recent example.

Are money matches an east coast thing or something? Cause before I moved out here, I’d never heard of them (except on random SRK threads), and now it seems like everyone is all about them.

Anyway, I’d totally forgotten about this thread before my subscribed threads beacon went off. I’ll try to get my thoughts on Remy in soon.

well, it’s either very contradictory, or meaningless, that you say sean can beat good players using good characters…only to follow up to agree that they were just casuals and thus, meant absolutely nothing.

i’m not hating in any way, but KOFiend directed me to your comment and it came off as rather boastful to me (regardless if you were trying to make a point about sean). but aside from that ‘boastfulness’, wouldn’t you agree that you just dropped our names out there with a rather negative image? that we’re good players, using good characters, and yet, had both lost to sean.

about the sandbagging thing…i never sandbag. sandbagging is a way of sucking people in for whatever reason. sandbagging also has an IMPLICIT MEANING: they’re supposed to WIN (marginally). whenever i play, i always play to a point where im comfortable. there’s no true ‘will to win’ present. i play to have fun. there’s no need to try to win in every given scenario.

but back on topic…i wasn’t fishing for a money match either. i was just saying, if you’re trying to throw out a point about sean being able to beat good players using good characters, then you should definitely reinforce that concept with a solid situation of where you (or anyone for that matter) as sean, were trying to beat someone good, who was ALSO trying to beat you. only then can your point have any meaning…

Aight look. Both Kofiend and Exodus are extremely good players. And david is a pretty good player of his own right. Does it really matter how shit went down at vtyme?? No it doesnt. Khang is a pretty good friend of mine and I know how he is. He fucks around ALOT. The fact that yes david beat ko fiend and khang with sean is true however it holds no water at all. why? Because knowing both of them that shit more than likely. B4 any assumptitons are made about Exodus and Kofiend’s skill levels or lack there of… I will point out that the wins that david got on there were no way near as clear as he may believe. The fact that you even brought up that shit is pretty stupid period. Even tho right now im not on ko fiends fav person list lol, im sure he would feel the same way. Like i said bringing that shit up is stupid. david im still cool with you and shit but you didnt need to go there.:lame:

I don’t see what the big deal is, it’s not like I’m trying to belittle you guys because I beat you with Sean. In fact almost the opposite is true, I’m trying to hold you guys up as examples of good players who have nevertheless lost to Sean. I don’t think there’s anything negative about that. It’s not like I dregged some horrible incident up from the muck of three years ago; this was a recent event and was germane to the discussion, so I didn’t think twice about it. And exodus, I hear ya, it did come off as a little contradictory for me to say that, but it’s kind of my nature that if I say something that puts me in a good light, even just incidentally, I usually follow it up with something that takes that light away. I suppose I should have just stuck to my guns, I mean, I didn’t know if you guys were taking the matches seriously or not, but oh well.

It seems like the culture out here, or at least what I’ve seen with my limited east coast experience, is a little different from what I’m used to. Back home, seemed like everyone tried, even during casuals. That’s not to say we all played to win, after all plenty of guys used non-top-tier characters. For me, it’s not necessarily about winning, just about playing the best I can with the characters I’m interested in, and I guess I assumed everyone was like that. Out here, though, I get the feeling that people just kinda mess around and only get serious when tourney time or money matches come around. That’s cool, it’s just not what I’m used to. I’ve played casuals with guys in the area a couple times now and I’m sure I will again soon, so exodus at some point we’ll probably hang out and play, and I don’t need bad blood where there doesn’t have to be any.

Anyway, this is my last post on this subject. Like I’ve said, I’d like this thread to be about Q and how to play him, not about tiers, me, other players, or whatever else. If you guys want to continue this discussion feel free to pm me.

Wow, I love how offended he gets at losing or something? Who cares if it was casuals, obviously those aren’t as big or whatever, but he was just pointing out that he has beaten good players using good characters with Q, just giving an example, even if you weren’t playing in tip-top shape, that’s not the point of what he said.

Exodus, why are you trying to start shit? UltraDavid meant nothing by the Sean comments, if you were paying attention you’d have realized.

The point Dave was making was that Sean can be a competent player in casuals. Saying he was able to beat you guys with Sean, in a non-serious match, shows that Sean can be played competently, that’s it. He meant nothing negative by it, you need to chill out.

Seriously Dave has been nothing but humble and respectful of your skills (and KoFiend’s) in person and online. No need to start all this E-drama over it especially considering we know each other in person and are going to be seeing each other in person again in December.

whoaa…calm down guys. i wasn’t angry. nor am i trying to start any e-drama. i just saw my name mentioned, and regarding losing to sean, which didn’t have any meaning behind it because it was casuals. now the point he was trying to make, that sean is a capable character, can be applied to anyone, especially if it’s in casuals. so what’s the point of making it?

when talking about a character’s strength and weaknesses, it’s implied that you are considering so for the sake of tournament worthy play. but to bring up the scenario with kofiend and myself is completely irrelevant to the original point. so imo, all it did was make us look bad by saying that we were good players, yet lost to sean.

I’M JUST SAYING. i’m not angry, nor hostile, nor have anything but love for dave as a 3S player. it’s just that bringing up casuals is kinda O_o, so i felt that it made us look bad. but i’m already over it. i just wanted to bring my point across. snip.

Anyone can beat anyone once. Its not a big deal.

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I last updated, but I’m going to real soon. Things are getting down to crunch time in school over here, so naturally I’m procrastinating even more than usual, and in my quest to find stuff to do that is not school I decided to finally update this thing. I should get it up in the next day or so. I’ve added some matchup stuff, some character info, and changed some random things.

i’ve been using Q for almost a month,
and i use a lot of dashing punch.
i even use it to cross under jumping opponents,
since i’m always charging/blocking, once i see my opponent jumping towards me (im in the corner) i do strong dash punch to cross under, and have my my opponent cornered.

Q vs oro match up??
