Yeah, I was thinking that maybe someone could do a KD attack, such as a sweep or striking someone from the air.
the ken vs. sagat setup can be escaped via reversal ultra (for full damage)
sagat can also ex dp to minimize damage
can’t backdash though; the fireball completely whiffs
(as implied, only tested vs sagat)
Any of Seth’s setups are automatically legit simply because he doesn’t need to FADC. That means he can freely bait an escape attempt. And the opponent can’t react to his setup because he doesn’t use FADC, so there’s nothing to react to. The opponent pretty much has to guess, and the risk/reward ratio is vastly in Seth’s favor against most characters.
Rose’s setup is only legit if MP-Spark works, which against Ryu-sized characters it doesn’t. Technically you can gamble with it and the payoff is good if you guess right, but if you guess wrong you’re wasting a fuck of a lot of meter and also risking getting fully punished for it. Unless I’m missing something Sagat’s setup isn’t legit at all.
So Seth can use this completely. Rose can use it somewhat. What about other fireball players other than Sagat?
Does this work on opponents falling out of air reset? Or only against opponents getting up after a knockdown?
(Sorry if I missed it already)
i mean its not like you have ultra and 3+ meter unless the match is not going your way, plus if you mess up its only a bigger/easier punish for the opponent, so its not too bad
I did it with Sakura a couple of times after a full range sweep. Difficult has hell, almost impossible, at least for me.
timing is strict i only managed to work it with sagat, rose is really hard to do!!!
Can ryu do this?
Last I checked Ryu can’t ulra with a fireball on the screen
OK I did further testing on Seth’s. With his SPD setup it works exactly like Sagat’s, basically if Ryu is blocking pre-flash he will be hit. If Ryu does not block pre-flash he can block post-flash.
Meanwhile Seth’s backthrow setup works exactly like Roses but better. Ryu can’t block pre or post flash, he also can’t backdash AFAIK. In fact the only way to escape it with Ryu is EX DP. But Seth is safe if Ryu does EX DP since they recover at about the same time, and Seth can also just not do ultra and just bait escape attempts for free. Regardless, if Ryu has no meter he’s fucked.
Well, if blocking late is the best option against sagat, is there enough hitstun to let the tigershot hit (since your opponent is at neutral) then ultra immediately after?
has anyone tried blocking before the flash, going back to neutral during startup then blocking again?
Not mid screen with the throw setup. Best case in the corner you would have about a fifth of a second to do the ultra
If you block before flash you are hit instantly, so you do not get a chance to return to neutral and back, by then it’s too late. You also don’t get the option of just-defending either, I tested that too. That’s the way it works with either the LK-Shot or MK-Shot.
So far I believe Seth’s backthrow MP-boom setup is most legit. It’s kind of a gamble for Seth SPD into LP-Boom or Sagat forwardthrow into MK-Shot. Even though it’s unblockable with Rose it’s not really legit because most characters should be able to backdash on reaction to the FADC.
Ken’s forward throw setup apparently fails against crouchblocking Seth and standblocking Cammy, and so it’s not legit against them. And I’m hearing it only works on Blanka and Sagat who have other options for escaping. I haven’t tested his backthrow setup or any other setups though, his backthrow setup might be better (not sure).
These are pretty amazing finds
So basically, every character that can do Ultra and have a projectile on screen at the same time can take advantage of this with the proper timing? Can Akuma do Shakunetsu FADC Ultra? Seems like a pretty broken way to ensure victory if the opponent has a few pixels of health left…
I can confirm that: Fthrow -> LP Gohadoken -> Super/Ultra with akuma makes the Gohadoken unblockable.
Ken NEEDS this! But it’s ridiculously hard to do… I haven’t been able to pull it off once.
I made the sagat one work, but no success on the others
