Ultra Street Fighter IV - Evil Ryu

I guess time will tell. It is better for the game and we will have to live with it.
At least we still have our damage and a vitality increase.

Gameplay from Japan: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23332650

His backwards teleport still slow but it was used well there lol

The PPP teleport is slow, the KKK travels a short distance but isnt slow, I never use the PPP one.

Looks like it’s time for (very quick) frametraps

Final Evil Ryu changes

Evil Ryu

Vitality increased by 50 (900 → 950)
Crouching MK disadvantage on block reduced by 1 frame (-4F → -3F)
Crouching HK start-up reduced by 1 frame (7F → 6F)
Target Combo 1 (Close Standing MP → HP) can now be done from Far Standing MP
Senbukyaku (6+MK) hitbox greatly expanded downward
HK Ryusokyaku start-up reduced by 1 frame (26F → 25F)
L, M and H Shoryuken → EX Focus Cancel → Forward Dash is now -5 on block\

Basically nothing has changed since the very first change log except for two things. He no longer has the light tatsu range buff and his SRK, FADC is -5 which doesn’t really count since everybody with a invincible reversal got hit with this. The light tatsu buff wasn’t a big deal to be honest. Since nothing of significance has changed since the first change log, what are your final thoughts if any? I know many of you weren’t happy and thought he’d be worse. I expressed my opinion that he would be better and I still feel that way. Just wondering if any of you guys feel differently since the last time we discussed this.

@‌Rice

I have sort of accepted the ‘‘changes’’.

Pro’s
Nothing has really changed, we don’t have to adjust to a nerf that affects our game plan.
Vitality buff: not huge, but he its something
TC buff: corner fake crossup
Faster sweep: whiff punish
f+MK: have to start using this more

Con’s
We don’t have something new. No new combo’s, nothing we can really grab on to.
DWU: scroll up a few comments for my opinion
SRK -5: Even though its better for the game and I agree somewhat with it, its still a nerf so I have to post it

The buffs he got where minor but there are almost no con’s so I’m real happy with that. Basically he is just the same but his footsie game got stronger which is a big deal in USFIV.

I think nothings changed, he’s the same a AE. Only difference is the Health to me.

F + MK buff is really nice IMO. It provides a good way to close in while counter poking lows. However, this could get overshadowed by the buff to sweep. IDK.

I’m still curious why the buff to Cr. MK’s blockstun was needed. Wasn’t it already a true blockstring into Hadoken from virtually every range? Ah well, I’ll take the buff.

About the sweep, after tatsu sweep he can go for a ambiguous jump in and react to DWU with his dive kick which will hit meaty and keep him in frame advantage. Or who knows, it might actually hit and you get full combo. Although it’s not as safe as Ibuki reacting to DWU with kunai, you’re more susceptible to getting DP’d for trying this method. But mixing it up with empty jumps will will give him a decent way to mix it up. It’s better than most of the cast who can’t do anything to adjust to DWU.

This is something I figured out a while back when testing it with the USF4 mod and watching Japanese USF4 videos to see when “Technical” appears. It appears almost right after the sweep so their is plenty of time to react to it. Dive kick delays you long enough to stay airborne to hit your opponent when they use DWU if you time it right.

Lol Good thing is I found more sweeps. He can sweep Ryu/Ken now that he has a 6 frame sweep. But only a certain way.

@Rice_Eater‌

You see my comment on your YouTube Video?.

Overall he’s gotten better at the expense of every other character getting nerfed.

Kind like Fei Long from Super to AE

Yeah I saw it, I’ve been at work all day so I haven’t had a chance to try it out but I will.

He got better period. He’s probably the best character in Ultra. Sako outfootsies the best Fei Longs. If you look at his games, 90% damage comes from his ground game and not setups. Everyone is jumping on that train. I forsee some of these players dropping him once Sako and Daigo make them feel like frauds. PR Rog dropped Fei because he didn’t think he could be as good as Fuudo.
Evil Ryu Army:
Sako
Daigo
Gamerbee
Pr Balrog
Bonchan
NGL Chris
BananaKen
Eita
Chris G

Edit: Daigo is now #1 in Japan Arcade BP Ranking with Evil Ryu.

BananaKen is a maybe… He needs to actually start playing SF again

NGL Chris said he’s sticking with Ken after all

Sako doesn’t like playing popular characters which is why he dropped Cammy after Super. That and they changed her.

PR Balrog and Chris G will get exposed and go back to their mains.

Just backing reading this thread a bit. Regarding DWU. I think are underestimating this. I play Dhalsim, and the only real comeback potential that this character has in AE is off HDK mixup’s. Lots of character that aren’t truly vortex characters still use HDK mixups for about half or a little less of their mixups. This feel like it will be a footsie game. This is why Rose and Chun are considered strong. For E.Ryu his footsies aren’t as good but he can do some really good burst damage with meter. Don’t forget the DP nerf, but not on our side but the opponents side. You can still apply pressure on WU because waking up with reversals are riskier since it can’t be done safely. I think looking more into standing resets maybe good, as I saw PR Balrog do at UFGT.

There are still safe reversals. Some characters will be safe on backdash in a lot of situations and EX dps are still safe to fadc on block.

To be fair, Garou allowed you to make reversals safe for a good few characters. For no resource, either. One of the reasons I love that game so damn much. The neutral game was pretty awesome with it and feint canceling normals for pressure and stuff.

Don’t really think Evil Ryu will feel the DP FADC nerf that badly, though. You can still get setups off of SKD’s if you need your meter for FADC’ing into Axe Kick. If you don’t, Evil Ryu builds good meter in the neutral game and especially on hit, so EX DP FADC is still an option as he won’t be using RFC just to have scaling neuter his damage, unless he has some super optimized RFC shenanigans like Viper or Yun that I’m just not seeing.

I’m pretty sure the game will gravitate more towards set-ups off of SKD’s and resets anyway, because E. Ryu isn’t the only character whose DP got nerfed. Everyone will be much less likely to use a reversal for a standing reset, or they blow three meters to make it safe. A trade you can make in your favor by just blocking.

I welcome the Evil Ryu army, though.

IMO, resets is where E.Ryu shines. The amount of mind games you apply with him are insane. That’s what I really like about this character.
Everybody thinks oh I just have to keep him out and then I win, omg only chip and he is dead. Then that last moment when we finally get the hit we want and we blow them up with a reset for the kill.

Dear god those are the moments I live for.
