Ultra Street Fighter IV - Evil Ryu

I spent a few hours on USF4 so far. Evil Ryu didn’t have significant changes so to be honest their really isn’t much to say. Their are a few things though that I wanted to mention. His target combo from far MP has a different knock down compared to the one with cl. MP. It just looks strange and I think they stay down a little shorter. I tried the fake cross up against Ryu in the corner and couldn’t get it to work. I think Capcom knew about it and intentionally did this to not give him that option.

Another thing is something I found in the Ultra mod months ago. I didn’t wnat to bother mentioning it because I didn’t know if it would work in the real USF4. Against certain characters, if you sweep them upclose and immediately jump forward and they use DWU, you’ll instantly cross over to the side. What’s nice about this is that some characters can be done from tatsu>sweep like Fei Long. I haven’t done further testing though to see if you won’t cross over if you delay it a bit but it could be pretty useful against the small handful of characters that it works against.

Seems interesting, defiantly worth checking out.

Does the range on CS.LP seem off for anyone? I noticed this when I do CS.LP > fs.LP > LK Axe kick

Seems my post didn’t go through. I only see Daigo sticking with the character if it works. Not even Sako. The second Evil Ryu becomes popular in top 8… He’s outta there!

Tested unblockables and set ups, not on everybody but just a few characters so it probably applies to everybody else. This is without DWU of course

-Heavy axe kick into fake cross up in the corner still works against Ryu
-The same thing when done against Guile is no longer a unblockable, but is now a fake cross up
-Unblockable against Dhalsim midscreen when hitting a EX axe kick up close, back dash, wait a few frames, forward j. HK still works
-Mid screen unblockabes from throws, walk back, whiff normal still works against Rufus and Ryu
-Tatsu > sweep unblockable still works against Cammy, this is the one Sako used heavily against Xiaohai in Topanga Asia League

It seems like their all still there, just not guaranteed anymore. Although not the safest option, Evil Ryu can react to DWU by using dive kick(mid screen). If you catch them blocking low then you still get full combo. If they mash DP, you’ll probably get hit because it’s hard to get in that area over their head to make their DP’s whiff.

Can anyone confirm if the lk tatsu > sweep works as Akuma’s of got removed?

Evil Ryu kept the 6f sweep, it’s in the change log. I tested it against a bunch of characters that it didn’t work against before like Sakura, Sagat, Cody, and Guile and it worked. I was “vortex’ing” this Sakura player who wasn’t using DWU earlier. It felt good doing that to her after dealing with her combo into hard knockdown into continuous pressure in AE 2012.

I know the 6f sweep made it, I was curious about the height of the opponent after being hit by the tatsumaki.

Can you check if the unblockables with double dash are still there? I guess the ones with sweep doesnt works anymore because of the new c.HP and not because the new HK Axe Kick.

I’m enjoying the minor speed up to HK axe. Its just enough for me to be a little more relaxed when cancelling DPs into it after lk tatsu for that hard knockdown. I’ve found my reliability on this combo much better as the HK axe no longer misses where I used to find I was too slow getting it out. 1f is all it took. Odd.

Opponent’s using DWU is invoking a strange hesitation for me in my E.Ryu play as it is with Akuma. It’s definitely going to take some getting used to and I find it really muddles with match flow.

Finally played some USFIV yesterday. E.ryu doesen’t feel all that different.

6F sweep is godlike, I’m really liking it.
Also HK axekick is really weird because it feels so fast now. Just have to get used to it.

Still need to use the TC, anybody got some setups?

I’ve tried corner unblockables against Seth, Guile, and Fei Long using the double dash method. They’re all no longer unblockables, instead they’re fake cross ups. I think they got rid of most if not all the corner unblockables in this game. It seems that way because that’s what others people have been reporting. But tons of mid screen unblockables remain.

Like I said in my other post, he can react to DWU with his dive kick. If done after a tatsu > sweep, it’s a good way to keep up pressure. I’ve been doing this a lot when I’ve played. Although if they know it’s coming they can always just block one way and don’t have to guess. But it’s better than nothing. As for reversals. I tried one timing that almost always dodged DP’s from Fei, Cammy, and Dan. I did manage to hit Evil Ryu one time as Dan but I tried again and again and it was hard.

So it may be possible but very risky and you may reap the rewards if your opponent goes for the reversal and it misses. The only one that was a no go is Sagat, but that’s because Evil Ryu’s dive kick was putting him right in front of Sagat instead of over his head like he was with the others. You can use this same method after throws or EX axe kick as well. Sure he’s susceptible to DP’s, but at least he has this option where as most characters have to guess whether their opponents do DWU or not.

tatsu-sweep works on Elena and Poison.

Also against Elena I got the Hk Axekick 2x dash MK fake crossup to work maybe 2 or 3 times. Tried it again today but couldn’t get it to work, can someone confirm this?

Just finished checking the tatsu-sweep on the full roster.

It works on everyone except:
Abel, Blanka, Dudley, E.Ryu, Gen, Ibuki, Juri, Ken, Makoto, Dictator, Rufus, Ryu, T.Hawk, Yang, Yun, Decapre, Hugo and Rolento.

That means it works on 24 out of 44 characters!!!

Hopefully this will help someone to find some setups like Rice_Eater.

I had the chance to play USF4 today and noticed some interesting things:

  • I could to do corner unblockables against Makoto v. 2012 with both 2012E.Ryu and USF4E.Ryu.
    _ I couldnt to performe corner unblockables against Makoto v. USF4 with neither 2012E.Ryu or USF4.E.Ryu.

  • I didnt manage to do corner unblockables against USF4’s Seth and Guile with USF4 Evil Ryu. Didnt tested with 2012 Evil Ryu.
    Seens like they changed the way the USF4 chars hurtboxes works in the corner but left the old characters unchanced. Seens like they changed the hurtboxes one by one instead to change something in the game’s engine otherwise the unblockables wouldnt work on the old chars.

Midscreen unblockables seens unchanged. E.Ryu’s throw, walkback 2f and s.HP, jHK works perfectly against USF4’s Seth.

I managed to do a lonely tatsu -> sweep in trainning mode against Seth but I didnt managed to hit it against noone after a full combo (axe kick, lp XX tatsu), the sweep whiffed everytime. Tried on Decapree, Dudley and I think I tried against Rufus aswell.


Something weird. A friend did Hugo’s super from the distance and it was going to hit me because I was recovering from an Axe Kick, but Hugo jut kept running by a couple of seconds when he reached Evil Ryu and didnt punched, that was weird.

@Donfloris It’s actually 27 out of 44. You forgot to include Elena and Poison. Both of whom you already mentioned in your previous post and you can tatsu > sweep T. Hawk. Hopefully tatsu > sweep can lead to some good stuff for us. Unfortunately it’s just not guaranteed.

Tatsu-Sweep is I think the best news we could have gotten because we now got a new setup of a HKD. This will start to develop from now on, let it take some time we will find something :wink:

Theres another change that haven’t being discussed much. I guess Capcom doesn’t even announced it, I think they announced it as a Ryu change only. The EX tatsu aways connects completely now so Evil Ryu lost a great reset he had against approximately 1/3 of the roster. The bnb with c.mp xx EX tatsu resets the opponent and forces him to block in the opposite direction, otherwise he gets hit by the last 2 hits and gets launched to the corner to be hit by an Ultra with almost no damage scaling.

All unblockables had to be fixed on a case by case basis. That’s why Combofiend was asking people to post all their setups. Any of them capcom didn’t find or hear about, are still in the game.

tested this morning and can confirm it is the 27/44 mentioned, which is the same as Akuma’s list (apparently).
other things to note is that the LK TATSU in [S.HP, MK AXE KICK, C.MP, LK TATSU] whiffs on Decapre (similarly to Blanka and Rufus), so C.LP or something else should be used.
F.MK + EX Tatsu doesn’t do the full 6 (1 mk + 5 tatsu hits) hits on Poison and Balrog still.
