Something just hit me. Sometimes when Capcom took street fighter 4 to arcade or consoles they added characters. Think this could be the case here? Ayano did say that Ultra will be getting updates. Would be the perfect time to add Alex and Karin.
Ultras going to get further tweaks? Interesting.
Red focus is a defensive tool by design. The only time red focus is going to be an issue for Akuma is against Hakan since Hakan’s focus can MOVE. Otherwise Akuma can simply fight where he wants and avoid being in red focus range for most of the match. Not only that but don’t forget, Akuma has a decent kara throw AND his amazing walk speed allows him to throw opponents significantly easier than a character like Dhalsim, throws beat focus.
As for the zoning being less damaging that Dhalsim? debatable at best. Full screen zoning yeah, Dhalsim is going to do more consistent damage as his fireball deals more damage than air fireball and he has his limbs for anti airing from far away. Once the opponent gets to mid range however Akuma is going to do more. Not only can Akuma convert off of a NJ air fireball into a relatively good chunk of damage. He also has crMK - Fireball which can be FADCed for quite a significant chunk of life (an option Dhalsim doesn’t have since his dash is 31F). Akuma also has far HK confirms during footsies. Lastly Akuma’s far HP and crHP anti airs do more than any of Dhalsim’s anti airs and both characters suffer in the area of being able to convert an anti air into additional damage so Akuma wins that one.
Pure footsies and zoning Akuma certainly doesn’t do as much as Ryu which is a big issue but he isn’t that bad off even in that area. IMO the bigger issue is: Once you take away the vortex option, why not just play Evil Ryu? ERyu may not have an air fireball (which is easily one of the best moves in the game.) but he still has way better conversions in footsies and better damage for zoning thanks to DP - FADC - U1 or DP - FADC - Axe Kick. As well as having a better ground fireball than Akuma and a true block string via crMK - Fireball which Akuma doesn’t have.
Red focus hurts Akuma but it doesn’t hurt Akuma very much. It wont negate his vortex at all and his mobility allows him to easily avoid having to deal with it in neutral. If anything Red Focus hurts DHALSIM far more even though dhalsim has a better armor breaker he has weaker mobility and his moves already suffer against focus attacks more than most.
No doubt Sim gets screwed by it. Sad times BibleThump.
I don’t get why socratic clown is so upset about the damage reductions on two ultras…
The way he’s talking he shouldn’t count on ever ultra-ing, I mean if you were playing perfectly and never got hit, you’d never get your ultra anyways, gg

Um, the five characters have already been locked in as Hugo, Poison, Elena, Rolento, AND A FIFTH CHARACTER THAT HAS NEVER BEEN IN A FIGHTING GAME.
Now explain to me how alex is qualified to be the 5th character?
Well aren’t vortexes doing a setup after a setup based on predetermined wake up times? I think delayed wake-up would throw quite a wrench into that plan.
Except akuma doesn’t NEED the vortex to crush people, and all of a sudden if there’s no vortex the weak characters get weaker while the strong vortex characters are still dominating.
Try playing dudley without a vortex, these lower-tier characters suffer much more than high tier vortex characters if delayed wake-up is introduced.

That’s not what he’s saying…
Its reaching but I’m still thinking this brand new character thing could be a troll job. Were supposed to be excited for a character. Who would we be more excited for than somebody we want to return the series? If they hadn’t already played the sheng long card that would be one thing. But I think this all could be a ruse to throw us off the trail of a character that isn’t actually new, but making a long awaited return.
This theory is also biased because it gives me reason to believe Karin might come back.

That isn’t what I said at all. Go back and read again.
The fifth character in the alphabet is E
E backwards is 3

Half Life 3 confirmed?
I hope delayed wake-ups is not a thing, how am I supposed to pressure with a reversal using T.hawk if I have no set-ups?
I’m assuming delayed wake-up is going to cost meter. Surprised no one has mentioned this yet.
It would be stupid for it to cost meter. The whole point would be to fuck up vortexes. If the character flashes or meter disappears, the opponent will know you used delayed wake up and that you will stand in x amount of time, allowing them to still use a vortex anyway.

I don’t know man. doesn’t sound plausible to me. I had the impression that they really wanna kill the vortex and flowchart character of many matchups.
this won’t work if you need meter for ex-attacks, focus cancels, red focus, super and now vortex escape aka delayed wakeup. well combofiend said that they removed the unblockables, but unless they changed the fundamentals of the game engine, these setups will always exist in the game.
Delayed wake up would nerf characters that are bad already.
I hope they find something else.

Depending on how long it is it would be pretty much unreactable, so…
(~11 frames twitch reaction ~20 with processing as far as I know)
So I was posting on Ryan Gordon’s G+ page… this is the guy that ported a lot of games over to Linux. I was telling him how there basically aren’t any fighters for Linux and I would absolutely love for USF4 to get a Linux port… here’s his response:
I would love to port Shadow of the Colossus to Linux.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind Street Fighter 4, either.
and mine:
i support anyone helping out the linux gaming scene… hell you’re a hero to me, i looked at your resume… you’ve basically made linux gaming what it is today, ported all the major games pretty much… i would love nothing more than for the new street fighter to come out on linux… i would even contribute my own money to the project (even though i’m relatively poor)… you should talk to capcom and see if they have any interest in such a project!
If USF4 were to be released for Linux, I would format my PC, install Linux without Windows… and never look back. SSF4 is the only thing keeping Windows on my PC… if any of you guys have similar interests, maybe you should contact him (or maybe if you guys know anyone in Capcom, that would be even better). Here’s his G+ account: Stick it in the camel and go.

also I have a technical question… let’s say one move hits high and another hits low, for example Akuma’s air fireball hitting at the exact same time as a sweep, would this technically be unblockable?

I understand what you are getting at, and yes I would consider that an “unblockable”. That being said I don’t believe any of these exist in the game. Akuma’s air fireball can be blocked crouching so that prevents this kind of mechanic.
Variable wake up time, if it is implemented, I think will force the vortex player to make a 50/50 guess beforehand. If it is delayed or regular wakeup, if the vortex character guesses wrong no free combo but also no repercussions. I think this is what Capcom will try to do if it is actually implemented, which it hopefully won’t be.
You know how long fans have clamored for Karin!? She was one of the most popular characters in Alpha 3, then never made an appearance after that. People were constantly begging for her to be in SF4, nope. Then they hoped and thought that Capcom was saving her for SFxT. Nope. Character popularity worldwide poll reveals her #1 in Japan, and the 7th most popular character overall despite appearing in only one game. When Capcom announces 5 new characters at EVO, what is the crowd unanimously chanting?
“Karin! Karin! Karin!” Yet those hopes are also destroyed.
