On one hand i’m not really feeling some of these rumors because of how potentially skewed some matchups might become. All this extra fluff added to the core gameplay. However on the other hand i like something radically different in the SFIV franchise which will be a breath of fresh air, not everyone may liek it but atleast its something.
The lvl 2 unblockable sounds really really dumb though.
all this speculation with absolutely no information released by Capcom has turned my brain into mush… whenever I think of Ultra I just say NNNEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp
Red Focus… I already get creamed. D: Honestly I just want the game to be as fast as the Zero series, That’s it. It’s way too slow compared to anything post 2001. :c
I think if they add shit like a red focus they might fuck up the supposed “level playing field” balance changes they are doing. Anytime something new gets added to the core of a game, there is always some unforeseen exploits with the new thing. Everybody knows Desk will find a way to red focus for no bars or some shit like that.
EDIT: Changed “parry” to “focus”. This aint 3rd strike.
If these various mechanic changes are true they should pay a princely sum to Desk and Sako and let them try to see what they can come with to exploit the system. Then balance after that.
Although I’m not so sure about these rumored changes, I am a big fan of shaking things up. This is a paid update, and there should be something more than simple tweaks.
We’ll have to wait and see how these new mechanics fits in the game, looks like the renovation this game needed to bring again fresh attention towards Street Fighter IV, but now I’m totally sure of one thing: no matter how good is Combofiend, the game is NOT going to be balanced if you add new variables to the equation.
It took almost two years of competitive playing to get a somewhat community consensus on how to balance the actual game, so some few very good players trying their best, and a couple of location tests, can only get so far with proper balance in the new iteration. It was already not going to be balanced with the new 5 characters, and now might end up even being very unbalanced. I hope this is not the case.
LOL i guess red parry is back. So their trying to make Ultra SF4 like Third Strike? Hmmm. Maybe Gill or Urien are ultra secret characters so that the storyline can go from SF4 into SF3…
No offense to Sako’s crazy skills as a player but I never pictured him as much of a “mechanics” expert like Desk or Doopliss or Maj ect. Being able to do a hard combo or even come up with one is different than understanding how it works and/or what to look for to break a game. Maybe I just don’t know of Sako’s actual expertise in terms of understanding the way the game engines function though.
Still, the whole concept of Red Focus sounds both poorly conceived and difficult to balance.
That’s because he doesn’t make videos. He’s not as active in the field as Desk/Doopliss and Maj but he does find things and know about them.
Back during his Vampire Savior days he discovered many bugs and unknown stuff by himself he even created some great strategies like his Sako T.Hawk tick in ST (something that rocked T.Hawk in the ranking to A+).
Even today when he plays a character he shows remarkable knowledge to new strategies and character specific setups and combos.
And who said Capcom isn’t giving Desk a free test run for USF4
And Yeah I really think that Red Focus sounds really bad, the only good things is that it costs 2 stocks but knowing SF4 a game that rewards the losing characters with comebacks (Ultra/EX stock), Red Parry will turn into something like X-Factor…blow that low forward into fireball with LV2 RFA -> Ultra (no scaling !!).
It really sounds very bad, who needs more comeback mechanics !
Or… Or…Make it quite possibly the deepest fighting game ever made… or not…
What am i saying! Anything that’s not Sf2, Sf3, Cvs2, or MVc 1 or 2 is trash! Right!! right!!!??
No. It wont make it deeper, if anything the idea itself makes the game more shallow by weakening core aspects of the game. I actually LIKE focus as a concept, I like how they approached the idea of trying to keep the parry system but limit its scope and add a bit of a risk to it. I like how it can create this game of chicken sometimes where a person holds a focus in your face to see if you’ll twitch. I like the FADC system in terms of the way it allows for new combos. I like how it can be used to gain ultra meter as well as super meter through absorbing attacks. I like how it has a risk because 1 touch and lose all that white health. I like how Ryu and other zoners can mix between a 2 hit fireball and a 1 hit fireball to deal with focus attacks if the opponent is focusing all of their fireballs.
I don’t like how it crumples on level 1 counter hit and I don’t like how it allows you to make things designed to be good because they are unsafe into things that are just good AND safe. I don’t like how you continue to regain white health during canned animations like throws / ultras making it too easy to regain the white health safely. I don’t like how quickly the white health regenerates.
Red Parry is ALL bad. Period. There is almost no risk, it is way too rewarding, and it is simply a bad idea. It weakens footsies even further, it weakens fireballs even further, it makes 2 hit moves lose a ton of their strengths. It is a bad idea.
