Ultra Street Fighter 4 | General Lounge

I don’t get it, that’s not the case. your opponent is not gonna see which character you picked unless he picked too.
so by choosing your ultra as fast as possible it doesn’t speed things up because your opponent still doesn’t see your choice. and the timer for the ultra choice only starts when both players have chosen their character. since it’s blind pick and you can’t undo your choice there is no benefit in doing it fast, you’re just gonna fuck yourself with wrong ultra decisions.

Ryu, Rose, Balrog et al. say, “fuck choosing”

If they’re going to implement a change this drastic, I would imagine they would buff the worthless ultras to give players more choices and more tools. As a Yun main, I know that his ultra 2 is pretty worthless. His ultra 1 is all around pretty great. I’d love it if they made U2 viable and made me actually consider and ponder how my ultra selection will affect each match-up.

They did increase Dirty Bull’s range (plus the buffs from previous iterations) but I don’t believe many Balrog players will even bother to try it unless the range increase is akin to Gief’s LP SPD range.

Doesn’t it cause massive stun? Like the next grab will stun you? Free combo opportunity. Might even do more damage than raw ultra.

Everyone should get a 3rd Ultra so it’s like 3rd Strike.

Maybe, but I doubt there’s much they can do to make both ultras worth being selectable for some cases in the face of a major damage nerf.

Lets say that the nerf is 50%. With someone like Ryu whose ultra does 400?(398?) at full power he’s probably only going to be using it at 75% of that before damage scaling, so you’re looking at 150 damage before scaling. That wouldn’t even be worth the two bars it takes to combo into.

Now even at 50% (again just throwing out a number) someone like Dhalsim would benefit greatly from two ultras, but for a good chunk of the characters who have a one-size-fits-all ultra this wont mean anything to them.

If I remember correctly it adds 700 stun at max.

As Rose, you could make my U2 do 50 damage each and I’d still take both ultras. Especially in matches where you can only really punish with U1 (i.e. Blanka balls).

And that amount is still small change compared to the amount that needs to be spent on testing and development. Code doesn’t get written for free you know.

Technically it can be written for free in the sense that there is code that writes code. Though I suppose even that requires electricity :stuck_out_tongue:

Boxer´s Ultra 2 is just ass, it needs gamebreaking buffs, so it can be picked by the players. You can not only hitconfirm from his light normals into U1, it also includes corner carry, which is very important for him and his gameplan, all meterless btw. You can even link from a F.LP into his U1. The positioning after the U1 is too important for Rog, I mean Boxer doesn´t rely on ambiguous jump in´s lol, he relies more on grounded pressure and well, U1 is simply more helpful here.

Those with 2 Ultras, which are useful for different situations, would benefit more from the fact that 2 Ultras would be available, like grapplers, Sim, who else?

Said it dozens of times. Unless they make Balrog’s U1 suck more then it will almost always be a better choice to go with U1 over U2 due to the versatility/strength of U1.

Anyways the characters that would likely get the most benefit from 2 ultras are:
Zangief
T Hawk
Hakan
Dhalsim
Fei
Cammy
Juri
Makoto
M Bison (if his U2 gets buffed back to or close to how it was before.)
Guy
El Fuerte

Potentially useful but might not be depending on how much of a damage nerf it is to have both:
Sagat
Rose
Akuma
Cody
Honda
Balrog
Blanka
Abel
Viper
Gouken
Yun
Yang
Seth
Ibuki
Gen
Oni
Chun Li

Probably not useful at all:
Ken
Ryu
Evil Ryu
Sakura
Dudley
Rufus
Guile
Vega
Adon
Deejay
Dan

At least that is what I think

But then the computer doesn’t really know how to balance a fighting game to how we would like it now does it.

I could picture Dudleys taking both ultras against match-ups where Rolling Thunder is chosen to completely shut down certain characters’ options (Honda’s headbutts, Bipson EX Psycho Crusher escape, Gief lariats, any fireball, etc). If they’re smart, the simple fact that I can U2 will stop them from doing it, which will leave me open to use U1 to anti air, juggle in a combo, etc.

I pick Juri…and wait to see if my opponent is someone like Guile for example. if it is, I pick U1.
if its not, if its someone like Zangief…I pick U2.
Now…I guess the screen doesn’t show who my opponent’s character until they finished choosing their Ultra. but as long as I get to see their choice, I have to wait to choose my ultra. If my opponent does the same thing i’m doing, we’ll be there all night long waiting for the other person.

lastly, i’m sure everyone complaining about 2 ultras are the shoto scrubs who only know how to do dp>fadc>ultra1
ie, people who just use 1 single ultra…
100% of the time coz they think their alternate ultra for their character sucks for whatever reason.

am I right in this assumption of the complaining moaners?

deal with it.
its gonna happen whether you like it or not.
stop complaining and get use to it starting now.

No. It does not work that way. There are 3 steps to char select:

  • char
  • customization (color, taunt…)
  • ultra.

Validating the customization step locks you to ultra selection, and as soon as both of you have validated their customization step, you can see your opponent’s character. There is NO ultra selection deadlock.

The fuck? Fans of a series have every right to complain if they’re paying for the damn thing. People have the right to complain as customers, it’s always going to happen, so YOU get used to it, pal. If I don’t like the idea of two Ultras at once, you’re damn right I’m going to speak up about it, and others will too. You don’t like it, either roll the fuck out, or make an argument for why YOU think it’s a good idea for balancing instead of the “You’re all afraid of change” cop-out excuse. Cheers.

i’m counting the customization along with character selection. hence why I skipped mentioning that part. regardless…I don’t pick my ultra till my opponent’s character is revealed. If he waits for me, and i’m waiting for him…how is that not 29 seconds evaporated?

I wish they’d add a “Just shut up…” button

That would be the only button used ever.
