Yo why do they have to do the lame ass Ryu cover for Ultra Retail in the west, but Japan gets the cool little collage. Fuck you capcom.
Also, releasing Retail AFTER EVO is a great way to make sure there are a lot of stale copies on shelves for a really long time. Anyone who already plays is gonna snatch up the digital version, because otherwise they’ll be at a 2 month disadvantage when they finally get the retail version. The only ones getting retail will be people who are just now walking into this game, or some random joe with $40 to spare and a complete lack of gaming content.
I think the current arcade version is just temporary, think of it more of beta arcade version.
I think their goal is to make their final change after decapre comes out. My guess is Decapre will come out in arcade weeks after people get their console version to work out all the bugs/nerfs/buffs and when they upgrade Decapre in arcade that’ll pretty much be their final version for a long time.
Last I checked, they didn’t. I think you’re confusing the specs of the newer consoles which do.
Also, I once took 20 minutes to encode a 720p video at h.264.
Upload times are just a red herring. Anyone who’s done video knows that it’s the encode that kills it, especially if you recall what happened with 3SOE.
Still, no reason not to include it as an option just not the default one. Include a warning about long waits. Some people are willing to wait rather than buy a capture card or whatever.
Also there is zero reason not to include it on PC as an option but likely it will be locked to 480p there too.
Also fun read:
Apparently the PS3 is actually has decent potential for video encoding when the codec is written to utilize the cell processor properly though the codec discussed in this 2009 article notes it only performs a single pass.
Not really, those things often are CPU hogs to some extent and some people with slower computers can’t stream or record and get a consistent frame rate in-game unless they turn the graphics down a fair bit. The option to simply have a replay export to youtube would be time saving and probably allow for higher quality video.
Also, most of those programs require a license fee whereas this would be a free option built into the game.
Does anyone have the USF4 Enterbrain Guide yet? I’m curious if it has Decapre in it with all of her frame data and stuff, as well as the frame data for all of the new characters.
If I had to guess arcade’s will have a update either late this month or start of june to match the console release. There is no way they will release a updated version of the game on consoles and have arcade version behind. That’s a sure fire way to damage the already damaged arcade scene and game…
I’d guess the last week of may for a arcade update, then early to “mid june” (aka the 11th) for console updates.
Do you live in a city with an actual arcade culture? My guess is you have no idea.
People play in the arcade not necessarily for the latest patch but for the easy access of competition and community that can’t be replicated online.
Lots of arcades at cities with lots of arcades don’t have the latest patch of the games, but people still will prefer playing at old patch arcade with good competition compared to new patch with no one playing.
An arcade maintain its popularity for many reasons and having the latest games/patch is only a fraction of it…
Other reasons include but not limited to
Convenience
The actual arcade size, cleanliness, smoke level
Service (sticks and buttons break all the time)
How much it cost per game
Age group that goes there (yes there’s arcade with lots more old people while others have only teenagers)
The level of competition (i will go to a lower level arcade when I pick up a new character)
Number of machines available
For these reasons arcades can afford to be late with their patch. People don’t exactly stop going because it’s not the latest patch, if you actually live in an Asian City with Lots of arcades you will know
Computers are starting to age if you’re encoding h264 videos less than 10 minutes long in over thirty minutes. Granted the 360 would not be able to do that in a time efficient manner. The 360 only has a dedicated chip for upscaling, which wouldn’t help at all.
Also upload times are definitely a killer for many users (outside of Asia.) Source: someone stuck with Comcast who isn’t willing to pay 110$ a month for good upstream. Or 80$ for decent speed…
That’s all great, but the fact of the matter is this is a new build of a old game that people are on the fence about in japan already. Add in the fact that EVO is around the corner and everything else is irrelevant.
Sure people will play ultra AE in the arcade still, but it would be much more beneficial for the aracde’s to get Ultra AE: console edition to be pushed out before evo
