To be honest, Honda was one of the perfect examples of why I hate safe(ish) reversals. Because even the dumbest Honda can throw them out and it requires me to work my butt off and make good reads to stop someone from just being a total idiot. It makes fighting even mediocre Honda players a chore.
I’ve never played a game where safe reversals didn’t lead to horribly scrubby behavior. Reversals should be good (beats out practically everything else), but horribly unsafe on block. Or if a reversal is safe or leads into massive damage it should be slow.
Just my 2 cents about reversals in fighting games.
The rule of thumb I’ve always liked on reversals is that the risk/reward is always skewed towards risk; you never get more from a successful reversal than you lose from a failed on. The FADC change should help the game go back to that.
Well, EX Headbutt is slow, it’s a 8 frame reversal.
I dislike fighting it, and sometimes I avoid playing against even bad Honda players just because I can’t be arsed to work so hard to beat him doing stupid stuff, but it’s still a slow move.
8 frames is not slow. Slow for a reversal yes, but in general, no. When LoyalSol says slow, he means moves like Fei’s EX CW or makoto’s EX Orochi, moves that barely combos from heavies.
well it should get closer to that anyway. it wont go completely back because of the characters who are going to land ultras when successful, but i get your point

Game actually looks fun for now. I guess I like this ex red focus… everyone looks kinda dangerous with it. Kinda helps balancing things out.

EX HB is now -7 on block. I agree if the goal was to reduce reversals, then nerf it. -7 with that push back is a bit too steep. I asked Combo for -5 so everyone can get a jab punish. Honda is a defensive character by design and now he no longer excels at it. Its not like Honda was winning majors by holding d/b and mashing ex hbs. All the buffs they gave him were what he needed, just wish they would have made U1 faster like it was in the initial builds.
The reward should almost always be if I guess correctly I get you off of me and I reset the situation.
The risk should be if you call me out on that reversal you should be able to punish me.
Instead with a lot of characters in SF4 it is: I get you off of me, plus a crap ton of damage, and you can’t punish me.
That is unless you back dash or stay outside of the DP range. Both of which means your pressure game is significantly weaker (sans characters like Vega who have good pokes and a Kara throw). It’s the #1 reason the vortex became the default means of pressure because it was the only consistent method where the risk/reward was completely in the attacker’s favor. All other forms of offense you have to constantly put yourself at risk for some kind of DP FADC for 40%+ of your health.
Reversals should always be a last resort that you have to carefully throw out, not something you should be able to throw out like candy.
I’m glad in general reversals got nerfed because it just gets old dealing with stupid players throwing out DPs, EX Messiah, Headbutt, or whatever they feel like.
Sure I still beat the dumb players, but man does it really take the fun out of the game just having to deal with that.

Yeah seriously… If a player chooses Honda in v2012 you can bet your ass he’s going to EX safebutt EVERYTIME on wake up, even sometimes when you know it’s coming you can’t do shit about it cause you were a hair to late on the jump back punish, ect. I hate having to resort to jump delay techs and such, just cause Honda’s head butt is so fucking lame. -_- I’d rather fight A+ tier Cammy all day than fight (lets just say he got super buffed) A+tier snore fest ugly fat sumo EX head butt abusing Honda.
On wakeup it’s easily os’able. It’s obnoxious vs actual close up pressure.

Do people complaining about “safe EX headbutts” forget that you can just like, jump back if you read him doing it and get a full punish on him whiffing that shit? lol
and lose all offensive momentum if he just sits there or happens to read your jumpback and splash you.

In that case he can only do it a few times, then he’s out of meter/luck. No worries.
