Ultra srk tech talk awards (2014)

From what I’ve seen from the front page comments, most people are gonna disagree though and say that they wanted art with so-and-so characters in. People just don’t understand class these days.

I’ve had my share of stick-art that had characters plastered over them and all, and it works (when done right), but looks really awkward if not. For example, the USF4 TE2s have nice character-based art. On the flipside, I really don’t like the KI TE2 art.
But there’s something really classy about stick-art that doesn’t involve putting particular characters on it, but yet is still distinctively specific-game-themed.

2014 Tech Talk Member of the Year

2014 Tech Talk Accessory of the Year (PCBs, Parts, Bags, etc.)
Cross bone

2014 Tech Talk Rookie of the Year
President Camacho (haven’t talked a whole lot with deserada (no h8 tho))

This hobby is already nerdy enough without anime characters plastered on everything.

To paraphrase something I believe hibachi said, the goal is to make an arcade stick, not a lunchbox.

No love for the classy lunchboxes, with non-character-specific-art?
I’m imagining a Vewlix-themed lunchbox…

Of course! This is only a standard I hold myself to, however. Still love me a grotesquely anime’d out design, although I wouldn’t make one myself.

I don’t know, quality vs quantity…

I think that sums me up pretty well…

I don’t come up with new info, just rehash, reorganize and collect old info.
Moon actually figures out more new stuff than me

I can think off the top of my head a half dozen people who should get the award before me
Moonchilde, PresidentCamacho, SusanInParadise, NENDO, Gummo, gahrling are all great examples Hell if D3v is not a mod he would already be on that list.

deserada would be a great potential candidate for new year

I’ll fill in the rest of my nominations later, but here are a few:

2014 Arcade Stick Revision of the Year

I am torn between picking the Mad Catz TE2 (there were a LOT of changes between the Xbox One Killer Instinct iteration and the current release of USF4/GGXrd/P4U2 versions. However since I am on the inside and these kind of things fly by me sometimes, I neglect them. However, I WILL use this opportunity to point out the changes/revisions made to the TE2 and some features that people may not know about:
[] Quick Release Disconnect Wiring - The TE2 features a special QD that is much different from what’s on the market (especially compared to previous offerings from Mad Catz). The new “quick release disconnect” wiring that was implemented into the newer TE2s have a pressure point on the QD. Once pressure is applied you can quickly remove the connection without yanking/prying it out physically.
[
] Improved integration of artwork swapping - One of the complaints Mad Catz received with the KI version of the TE2 is the thickness of the plexi and the material used would often cause flexing, giving the overall top panel of the stick a cheap feeling. MCZ remedied this by having a new impact resistant top panel material used that is thinner and clearer (artwork pops more now).
[] Improved bottom padding material - The material used has been improved to include better cushioning and stability over varied temperatures and surfaces.
[
] The TE2 plan and road map. - We have big plans for the TE2 range of parts and accessories. Similar to what we did when the TE/TE-S was our flagship stick. We are going to be going in big. This may not be a specific 2014 improvement, but it is something that we’ve worked into to help future proof the design and add more for the community/user base.
I want to vote for the Razer Atrox for Xbox One. Main reason? Because they “referenced” a lot of design influence specific to the TE2. I think that’s neat. So they get my vote.

If I were to vote for the Mad Catz TE2 however, I would vote for the Japan version Mad Catz Arcade FightStick TE2 for PS4/PS3 because I’m a sucker for blue and it matches with my sneakers…

The rest of my votes/nominees later today!

Gonna save these for when I do the review, as soon as that review copy comes in.

Just waiting for the Xrd version to come in before I send it off. Thanks for your patience.

Being humble only makes you look better, you sly fox.

Damn It.

No worries, I’m not rushing or anything. I just want to do a proper review on these since I was personally disappointed with the review we did for the XBOne version.

Should there not be a join date and post count requirement for voting (not unlike the requirements for secret santa)?

We have never had one that I can remember. While this voting is a point of pride, ambushing it is pretty obvious and would basically negate the outcome in the eyes of people who know anything about it.

More importantly, I would suggest we encourage new members to stay and get involved! Thanks for joining.
