Totally not worth the effort but still bad ass.
No relaunches? that might be easier actually
Really quick question guys: do you know of any other equipment that we could use for the stream setup, besides a component screen? I have a Paypal set up for people to make gift donations if they want, but i want to use that money on adding to what we have, instead of it just being a “Steve Kicks Ass” fund.
In other news, I think i need to start a “Steve Kicks Ass” fund.
Shoot Tyger a message on FB or here and he can tell you, bro.
In the mood for some SF tonight, so holla at your boy. I just watched MarlinPie and Masta CJ and man… I’ve gotta let some of the hotness sink in before I jump on that again.
And that’s WAY too much damn work for 704k.
Marlin v. CJ is one of the best Marvel 3 sets I have ever seen.
Next time you go to Adam’s. It’s on! Bring my awesome stick you made for me too
Maybe just ask him in the Jax FGC group, that way he can get back to you if he’s currently doing stuff?
I should have elaborated - I messaged him like 2 months ago when I was trying to set everything up.
GGs guys. Sorry about the initial blah blah Mike J. Was tired and trying something that was failing, until I actually got it.
New team idea: Trish Wesker Mags. Let the hilarity ensue. And now that I don’t suck as much, might give Dante or Storm another go, cus Trish Dante/Storm Mags works out very nicely in my head.
I’m used to blah blah, what with it coming from almost every direction these days.
Real quick rant guys, and then I’ll get off of my soapbox.
I am a little disappointed with the stream participation last night. 1) If everyone wants to play KoF, then someone speak up and we’ll stream that shit. If nobody really wants to play AE on Tuesdays, then I don’t want to stream the same 3 guys all night playing it, because nobody wants to watch that all night.
- Commentary. If nobody is going to provide decent commentary, then I’ll hook up the Xbox directly to the PC and be done with it. I understand that if we fix #1, this will be easier because there will be more interest in the stream. But if everybody just wants to show up to play, and nobody talks on the stream, ABOUT the stream, then there’s no point in me lugging that audio equipment over every week. Ideally, I shouldn’t be on the mic - only operating the stream graphics and switchig camera views. But I need help dudes.
That brings me to 2b) commentary. I am mandating this rule from henceforth - there will be no salty commentary. In other words, if you lose and are salty, you will not proceed to hop onto commentary and spend the next stream match bitching about it on mic. Show respect for the next guys that are playing. If something that happened is relevant to the current match, talk about it, but don’t whine about it. Nobody on the stream wants to hear that shit.
I’m sure you guys are hype for the tournament this Saturday, and I know that things will be different because tourney stream atmospheres are just generally different. I’m mainly worried about upcoming Tuesday casual sessions. If anyone thinks I’m being unreasonable or petty with this stuff, please speak up - this is our community and that’s why the Stream Machine was built. Everyone gets input. I just want to make sure that we’re presenting something clean and positive from Tallahassee that will encourage more players to visit and join our community.
Run endrant.exe
I’ll throw my two cents in regarding the stream: who asked you to put it together? If its something you put together on your own accord, can you really get mad at people for not providing commentary? People came to play games, I guess now people have to be ready to do commentary too. As for streaming which game, I’d say stream which game looks most popular that night. Give folks time to get used to the stream and I’m sure things will work out, Steve.
Re: Commentary -
I’ve said this previously: I sincerely believe that very few of us can provide any real insightful or entertaining commentary. Most of us just don’t are lacking in either eloquence, matchup knowledge, engine knowledge, character knowledge, or some devastating combination of all of these. That being said, commentary last night was lackluster because viewer turnout was just abysmal. Nobody was interested in commentating to the same six folks, especially if two were Ron and Logan and we were just watching Geoff drunkenly mash shit out.
As far as getting on the mic after you lose? I’m assuming this is in reference to Drew, and it’s something he is really becoming notorious for. Solution? If Drew loses, DO NOT LET HIM ON THE MIC FOR SEVERAL GAMES.
Commentating is not easy, and almost all of us are new at it. For those that are actually interested in doing it, give us time, we’ll eventually warm up and get the hang of it.
Re: KoF -
That game is getting tons of play, moreso than AE, but all of Geoff’s Youtube kiddies want to see mashed Ultras. Good games come on, viewer counts will probably drop more. That notwithstanding, I would love to put KoF front and center on the stream next time.
I think I went on the Mic for all of 5 seconds last night, and I think all i did was advertise for the tournaments, so lets not going and accusing me of saltyness on the stream
On the note of the stream, I have tried on several occasions to give good commentary to get shut down by “Ice blast” which btw im going to quote you steve " was the best commentary ever. And you encouraged it. not to knock you steve but that was kinda pissin me off, when i was trying to play AE. So its not like you’re entirely innocent of BS on teh stream either, no hate, im just putting in my two cents.
Don’t get me wrong Steve, I appreciate you putting the stream together, but like Mike G said, Most of us are new to the stream, lack the experience to provide good commentary, or Geoff is on the mic talking to stream monsters, and I have no interest in that.
When we’re talking about integrity about the stream, yes there’s alot of stuff to fix, but we’re talking about casuals in a no name town, filled with no-name players with some mediocre skills. I would say the tourney scene is more important and commentary on there should be on point. and no one is disrespecting anyone steve, I wasn’t close to the stream really last night since i was mainly playing KOF. I think Jarv put it best, we’re not some super secret club or scene, we’re a bunch of dudes who like to play games. True we’ve become a little bit more organized, but lets not lose sight of why we get up with each other in the first place.
What?
Andy you need to come back to town man, to take care of all this vagina floating around.
A good portion holds some disdain for UMvC3. Some of that comes from issues with the engine/balance/character design, while others come from bad strategies/execution/blocking/me styling on them. Due to the prevalence of this “blah blah” it doesn’t hurt my feelings anymore. If you (proverbial “you”, Drew) want to get better, you’ll keep playing, if you don’t you don’t. The words you (once again) say won’t change the engine or frame data.
I’m trying not to be lame, but it pisses me off that you tried to play this card, Jarv. Did anybody specifically say “hey Steve, work something out so that we have a stream”? No, of course not. But did some of us express interest a couple of months ago about how cool it would be if we could hype up our weekly gatherings and get something like that going? Yeah, they did. If guys hadn’t cared about it, I wouldn’t have put the effort into working it out. I’m not “mad” about people not providing commentary - I just don’t want to lug all the shit over every week if the stream is gonna get ignored, that’s all I’m saying. I’d be happy coming over and playing casuals/learning AE from Chris A every week if that’s what we’re doing, but the TLH community made it sound like a stream would be cool for us, and I wanted to put something back into the community since I certainly can’t provide skill at any of these FG’s.
I cut some stuff out so that I can concentrate on your main points Mike:
A) I disagree that you guys can’t provide any real insightful stuff - I feel like if basically each player in Tallahassee stuck to just one or two games, you’d each be amazing players at those games. Obviously that wouldn’t be as much fun, but my point is this - you all have pretty good knowledge of tons of stuff for all of the main FG’s that are played here, and I mean that as a huge compliment.
B) As far as Drew goes, I’d be lying if I said that he wasn’t the one who made me think of saltiness on the mic. But it really wasn’t directed at him indivudally - I watch some outside-FL streams in my spare time, and so many of them are garbage because it’s just salty dudes talking shit on the mic the whole time. But Drew is correct that last night he stayed off the mic with his saltiness, which is why I didn’t try to call him out for previous shenanigans.
C) It’s really cool that Geoff is hosting casuals every week, but if everyone who shows up to play wants to play King of Fighters, we’re streaming it. If we’re hype about KoF in Tallahassee, we can’t be the only ones, so I’m not worried about people watching on TwitchTV going “KoF? Boring.”
- Rhett is certainly not the kind of guy we want commentating on the stream - I don’t think anybody would argue with that. Dude was horrible (my “best commentary ever” comments are obvious trolls - although I do still find “ice blast” funny). But the guy did understand the basics of commentary which nobody else was doing - talking about what was happening on-screen, even if he didn’t know exactly what was happening or why. Tony Schiavone was the same as a wrestling commentator - dude just called it like he saw it, even if he didn’t know the names of the moves or anything. Like I said to Mike above, you guys all know so much more about these games than you’ll admit. You don’t need to know the frame data, or that an ultra worked because it was a counter-only situation - just talk about the things you know, like links/corner pressure/life lead/hot reads.
- Give the Tallahassee scene a little more credit. Dudes here work hard to get their stuff together in these games, and always make good showings at out-of-town tourneys. Justin Wong doesn’t live here, but if Logan can go to CEO and have a good set against PR Balrog in Marvel, then there’s something to be said.
SUMMARY: I’m not trying to be dick-hurt about the stream stuff - I think we all agree that “it is what it is” right now. I just wanna see more guys have fun with it and enjoy it, cause that was my intention.
