So this may be pointless but is anyone going to actually play MK9 at the GS tournament on Saturday? I have a sneaking suspicion there will be less players than last time which is pretty amazing considering there was 5 people involved at the last one >_> I’m also considering going to Storm Underground 4 next weekend in Jax for MK and possibly KOF XIII - is anyone interested in going to that?
It would be nice if the mystery game at the Tally tournament could be KOF XIII…but then it wouldn’t be a mystery now would it?
Jay: Yeah, I dont know about that dexterity thing, bro. Just from looking at it, it looks like its pretty effin high. I’d imagine you’d have to be able to execute just as precisely in SC, if not moreso, than in fighters.
Also, to Ron’s point: SF4 is one of those games where technology just doesn’t develop that quickly. I’d wager to say that if JWong took 6 months off from MvC3 and entered a tournament, then wouldn’t be at the level that he should be to place well, if at all, because of how quickly it develops.
GGs guys. I learned… quite a bit so now I’ve got a bunch of junk to practice.
My point is that once the game (any fighting game, sans Tekken because I will never speak for that game) feels developed, it largely is. Justin Wong didn’t really play Marvel 2 for like the past 4-5 years yet was still winning tournaments, including the final Marvel tournament at Evo. Starcraft constantly evolves in big ways. Not just because they patch the game, but because there is just so much to a race it’s impossible to cover all the strategies. There is just a much, much more limited ‘moveset’ in fighting games. There will be little things that are discovered over time that give you that much more of an edge, but in Starcraft 2 at pretty much every major tournament there has been a playstyle shown that makes the professional commentators go “Wow! We did not know that was possible!”
Jay, peep this: - look at how ridiculous his hands are. Note that even though the screen isn’t moving at close to the pace his hands are, each one of those key presses are accomplishing something - starting a new unit, checking progress, moving around the map, issuing a command…something of at least some importance.
GGS last night fellas. Strangely enough Marvel is getting more fun the more i play it, I really need to put it more work in SF, to the Dudley boards GO!
I love how this article didn’t touch on the finer points of Wesker’s god like nornals, or his new best friend Sentinel when talking about assists that were nerfed. also everything he mentioned about system changes that benefit Wesker, are things that make Wesker so Godlike. DHCing into Wesker is no where near as bad as he makes it sound, especially if it kills a character (which i’ve seen it done). Here’s the cut and dry of it, Wesker has no normal weaknesses (i know about his head chris) and the fact that you can’t punish most of his shit (NOT even with throws thanks to the system) makes him the overpowered character that he is. I started snapping wesker in yesterday, to try and mix him up because yes, thats probably where wesker is at his weakest is on point at the start of the match imo. But he still comes in, backed up by two assists and can easily build the meter and if they guess right on your mixup, HAVE FUN. so renegade makes some good points, but not enough to prove that he’s not over powered
EDIT: also he kept talking about the risks that Wesker has to take, and the rewards far outweigh them.
This article may be trying to talk about how he’s not that great, but maybe I’m the only one who read it as “he’s not that great, except here’s a list of reasons that he’s top tier.”
I’ve said it many times and I maintain it, Wesker is not ‘clearly the best character’ or anything like it. The same thing I always said about Wolverine and Phoenix. He just benefits from being ridiculously easy to play and hitting really hard (along with being virtually unchanged from the last game). Basically no matter who you are, if you have lvl 3 XF Wesker you have a chance. You keep saying “Oh he has no weaknesses!” but really here’s the thing - either you lose to a good zone (Iron Fist, Thor…WESKER), you do poor damage (Strider, Felicia) or you also “have no weakness.” - it sounds ridiculous but it’s true.
Do I think he’s the best? Of course not. Do I think he needs to and will be on pretty much every team? Yep.
Oh yeah, forgot the biggest weakness - no lows (MODOK, Nova)
You don’t even have to worry about other projectiles with his shot. i try to do a plasma beam, all wesker has to do is jump up shot. He can still zone extremely well
A diagonal move from the air beats a horizontal move on the ground? NO. But seriously, Deadpool can do the same thing. The real problem with the shot is the damage it does plus the amount of hitstun it puts you in (though, admittedly, much less than before). Also that he can teleport right after.
His zone is good, never said it wasn’t. It just doesn’t match up to a real zone. I’m not trying to argue that Wesker isn’t super good or anything, I did say I think he needs to be on every team. He’s just not as good as people think he is - he doesn’t straight shut people down like an AE Yun/Yang/Fei does. Wesker actually has characters like Trish, Nemesis (yes…Nemesis), Zero, Ammy, Vergil, and Magneto that he has a tough time dealing with. I DO want him to be nerfed though because he makes the game far less interesting and way more random…despite already being super super random.
I agree with Ron on like 98% of stuff but I have to say that I don’t get how you can argue “he should be on every team” alongside “I don’t think he’s as great as everybody says.” Those contradict each other. By saying that he should be on every team, you insinuate that he is Top 3 by default.
Wesker is Top 3, but should not be on every team because that makes the game not fun. Remember that we play games for fun still y’all
He always was. I told Logan and Ron that in Vanilla, and got berated for it as usual. AND as usual I ended up being right(unless you wanna count DP, which is gimmicky). That being said he doesn’t break the game thank god. But he is easy, cheap and gay to lose to. He should occupy your 3rd slot until further patching.
Modok has lows. Spit hits low on the second hit and d.C is pretty effective. Plus what zoning character needs a low? Cable didn’t. Sagat didn’t. Modok doesn’t. Also Modok has…Wesker…
MODOK 2C is 15f startup :\ kinda sucks but it’s not like it’ll never hit. I feel like canceling it before it actually hits into flight j.A might be a decent mixup but I dunno. The snot doesn’t hit low until it hits the ground, I’m not sure if it creates a puddle if it hits someone first.
MODOK is fun dude definitely requires a lot of my time and practice… which is why pairing him with Doctor Derp and Weskderp is so good!
Andy: wait, when did Sagat not have lows? ST, hes got them. SF4, he’s got them, and they are all pretty solid.
EDIT: Looks like I work on Saturday. Chances are I’ll still be able to go, but I won’t be able to be there for more than a few hours to get this money.
EDIT2: Wow, what a shitty day. Blah day at school, blah day at work, and two 360 pads ruined in the span of 6 hours. -sigh- What. The. Fuck.
