Ultimate MvC3 potentially an ultimate sales failure - Implications?

And at the same time, they still lost. They aren’t getting Megaman one way or the other. Deep down they are still crying like little girls.

I need to get this off my chest.

I loved the FUCK out of Megaman. LOVED the little bastard. Bought games, toys, all of it.

Tried him in Marvel 2, liked him but saw he was kinda poo.

Saw he wasn’t in MVC, was 100% ok with it.

Saw the cancellations to his games, was ok with it, but felt terrible for the fans.

Saw he wasn’t in UMVC3, was 100% ok with it.

HOWEVER:

The incessant whining of the less-reasonable Megafans has completely turned me off from the character. I feel bad for saying it, but at this point I’m GLAD he didn’t make the cut. Being unhappy with the roster is fine. Posting it on literally EVERY story on EVERY website even tangentially related to MVC3 or Capcom was foolish.

I hope I’m not the only person who feels like this.

Pretty much.

I wanted Penance and Alastor to be in the game (I voted them on some silly poll somewhere). And when I say “wanted” I mean “I think it woulda been cool to have them in, but if not, it’s understandable.”

The Megappl took it WAY too far. Personal attacks and threats on Unity? No WONDER Capcom devs trolled em back! I saw that Megaman poster in the UMVC3 stage and said “Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta!”

…I mean, I said “Lol”

I still don’t think these are the final numbers like it has been said, only the Japanese & European numbers have been revealed. Which seem to be good for those areas. If UMvC3 can get into the top 10 in Japan, I’m sure it did decent here.

I agree with the people who say the game should of been released in May. ESPECIALLY now that Marvel doesn’t have an Avenger game to tie-in to the movie (it got canceled, despite looking cool), it would have been good for both Marvel & Capcom. Marvel could have potentially sold some tickets for Avengers, while Capcom could have benefitted from having Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye & potentially Loki, Black Widow & Fury (they could have been added if the game came out in May) if it came out at that time. & they could have added Mega Man to appease his spoiled brat fans (I have a good feeling that we’ll be seeing a MM reboot soon, hence Legends getting axed. Out with the old, in with the new & so on).

As for the bitching about the popular '90s characters… Both sides in this thread seem to be wrong. Those saying Gambit/Juggernaut/Venom aren’t popular are acting ignorant. These three are some of the most well-known Marvel characters outside of the A-tier characters in the game. Venom is easily Spider-Man’s second most famous villain after Green Goblin (yeah, I feel he’s more popular than Ock).

& those who say Gambit/Juggernaut/Venom/Psylocke are irrelevant are also in the wrong. Juggernaut has been relevant in the past decade, hell he’s been relevant throughout his entire history. Pyslocke is currently pretty damn relevant, she’s on TWO X-teams (X-Force & one of the new X-Men groups), I’m pretty shocked she’s not in the game already. Gambit has had a rough history in this past decade because writers have been too stupid to decide what to do with him. But he’s been picking up lately with various prominent roles in newer series (X-23 & one of the new X-teams for example). Venom has also had an odd history in this past decade. Sure, he’s had multiple hosts but as said before the casual fan won’t care which Venom they used. Not many people complained when Gargan was in MUA2 opposed to Gargan, so I don’t see why Thompson would be any different. Hell, they could have put Anti-Venom in. Sure, the Anti suit recently “died”, but that doesn’t mean Marvel couldn’t still get some promos for the various trades of stories that had Anti in them.

As for those saying that the Marvel roster sucks… Go read a comic. This game has to appeal to comic fans as well! It’s not Capcom vs Marvel’s '90s Animated Universe. & to say people don’t know about Hawkeye or Dr. Strange is also stupid. If you know atleast a little about Marvel, there’s a chance you’ve seen Hawkeye & Dr. Strange. You may not know a lot about them, but you know who they are. Marvel’s trying to fix that by giving those characters more exposure. Such as appearing in new shows, new movies (Dr. Strange is highly likely to be the next Marvel character to get a potential new franchise) & their appearances in this game. The same can be said for Iron Fist & Nova who Marvel have been pushing to be more popular in the past decade, which has worked on comic fans & now they’re setting their sights for the casual fans. Rocket Raccoon was probably a Capcom pick, but Marvel instantly said yes to him (unlike that D-Lister Shuma-Gorath) since Rocky’s from a popular comic series & has a cult following. Rocky’s cult following is actually similar to the cult following that a certain crimson clad mercenary, who has recently become one of Marvel’s biggest characters, had. Said mercenary’s popularity boosted when he started appearing in games, movies & cartoons. Rocky’s appeared in a game (in which everyone seems to think he’s a badass), will appear in a cartoon soon & there’s rumor of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the works.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to get this out there. I’m a Marvel fan who supports both the new & the old. & besides the lack of a Spider-Man villain, I’m EXTREMELY happy with the Marvel roster of this game.

Megaman reboot?

Megaman is now british, smokes cigarettes and looks like a crack addict.

So, Bad Box Art Megaman, then?

Bad Box Art Mega Man for UMvC3/the ultimate troll?

are you zprotoss from tribalwar?

I admit it. Selective hearing.

As much as it’s a band wagon to love Megaman and to want him in the vs series no matter how stupid you look in the process, it’s also a band wagon to despise him with every fiber of your being and treat those who fight for him like they’re the worst human beings in the world. You’re either on one end of the extreme or the other, there’s no inbetween.

The moral here: Let’s pretend it never happened.

The situation surrounding Angry Joe, Mahvel 3 and Capcom is something akin to a human duct taping a stick of dynamite onto a chimp’s hand and tossing it into a roaring house fire.

It was gonna be ugly no matter how many precautions were taken and everyone except the fans of the game are at fault here.

You may as well call the game Avenger and friends vs Capcom 3.

:frowning:

What is the situation with Angry Joe that everyone is talking about? I saw his interview with Seth where Seth was answering the questions probably to what he’s allowed to say but Joe just looked pissy since he wasn’t getting the answers he wanted to hear lol.

He made a UMVC3 rant vid that got 100,000+ views. I cringed hard watching that interview vid though. So awful.

Any fighting game with Phoenix Wright in it should expect to bomb.

You are not. I’ve grown sufficiently weary of Mega-Man fan bitching that I seriously hope he never makes it into this game and that Capcom goes out of their way to troll the hell out of them. Hell, I see this thread as more thinly veiled “Why u no put mah Mega-Man in da MvC3?” whining.

I wouldn’t blame Angry Joe for any part of Ultimate’s failure. It’s all Capcom/Marvel’s fault for releasing an update in nine months. MvC3 wasn’t exactly a good game either with OP Phoenix, crappy online play, and the lack of characters compared to MvC2. It left a bad taste in ppl’s mouths and obviously those who weren’t happy with Vanilla ain’t gonna spend crap on the updated version. And the new characters from the Marvel side ain’t too appealing either so …

I will only say this compare alpha 1 to alpha 2, compare alpha 2 to alpha 3 compare New generation to 2nd impact, compare 2nd Impact to 3rd strike. See where i’m going with this? They are completely different games with a completely different play style. I bought SF4 then I bought SSF4 and I bought mvc3 and as crappy as these games are instead of changing them up capcom just keeps the same style in all of them and throws in some balance changes that’s the reason I’m not paying for UMVC3.

Hmmm, ultimate is a bit different, gameplan wise, from vanilla. It still feels mostly the same (thankfully) but you need to act different.

It’s sort of hard for the game to NOT be like that when most of Marvel’s heroes have been Avengers. The biggest Marvel heroes I can think of that haven’t been Avengers are Human Torch, Punisher & some of the biggerX-Men. Hell, even three of the biggest X-Men are currently Avengers (Wolverine, Beast & Storm will become a member early next year).
