The site linked in the OP shows 39,711 units sold for 360 and PS3 between Europe and Japan, but no U.S. sales are listed yet for either console release.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 is listed as having sold only 800k units on VGchartz even though Capcom stated that they sold 2 million worldwide. They list that the game sold like 300k in it’s US launch month even though the NPD numbers(which only account for like 70% of the US sales at max) presented nearly 800k for it’s launch month.
The numbers from there are not very reliable so don’t get your panties in a twist, fellas.
I think I NEVER saw anyone get diss’ed on NewbieDojo. And rarely do I ever see anyone get diss’ed over at the Magneto board for asking over and over again how to ROM, Fly loop, HG loop, what’s a tri-dash, etc. You’re all hanging onto a stereotype that has long-since passed here on SRK, or at least, is now a minority. Out of 5 guys helping you, you get 1 being a douchebag. But hey, that’s just like… everything in life.
What often happens, is that a new player is not ready to grasp all the different things he needs to know to understand the answers to his question and it’s like two deaf people having an argument, where nobody understands shit, and both sides just get angrier and angrier at each other.
If you take your time observing the game, the boards and the players, by yourself, you will not get into any stupid shit over here. Because the time you put into, trying to get better for yourself, SHOWS when you finally make a post about something that you really can’t understand. You come in educated and ready to understand the answers coming your way.
TL;DR- We ain’t that bad, and if we are, it’s because casual players aren’t willing to put in the work.
I think one of the main reasons the game (might have) bombed, are the casuals in power positions, like e-magazine editors, or people like that retard Angry Joe who don’t know shit about fighters BUT like to talk shit about fighters into the ears of the masses. They are in positions where they can affect game sales, but are hardly responsible enough to keep their e-penis covered.
The first few weeks after Ultimate got announced, all you’d see was re-posts of that Joe retard talking shit without knowing what he was talking about. There was so many straight up WRONG things in what he was saying, that I was barely able to watch one of those till the end. It’s poor-man’s journalism. Matter of fact, it isn’t journalism, nor is it comedy, it’s just slander. Which would be ok, really, if the uninformed casual players weren’t eating the verbal diarrhea he spouted with a shovel. They don’t double-check the shit he was saying. They’re not interested enough.
TL;DRagain- Angry Joe killed marvel, fucking retard.
Too many combination of bad factors for this game for casuals to get into it.
As for the game itself, MvC3 was way too cheap for casual gamers. While they(Capcom) strived for comebacks, alot thought it was pure bs.
Even if the game was released by itself. I think the numbers would have still been low. MvC3 was hyped since a VS series game was coming and people were waiting on this. Most of the casuals have been bored of the game and the new version just doesn’t excitement them enough. Also like how the OP mention how the game got released way too fast for an upgrade that cost 40 bucks.
People are like “well you enjoyed your 60 bucks buying the game”. Casuals DID NOT LIKE THAT. Alot of my friends refuse to buy this game since they think another version be out anyways. DLC should have been the route but that was probably impossible. I sense the same with SF X Tekken as well. People lost hype for that one too and casuals losy hype too.
This is why I say fighting games are hardcore by their definition. It just isn’t for everyone. The people who excel at fighters are people who enjoy leveling up their game and not necessarily worry about winning initially.
By leveling up, I don’t mean just playing. It’s about reading strategies, getting combos down, learning match ups, discovering new set ups, and things like that. If you think a new player is just going to have fun by simply “playing” a fighting game against skilled/knowledgeable opponents then your flat out wrong.
Vergil hyped a lot of teenagers, fan of the dark slayer from devil may cry.
Nemesis hyped me, it’s a true disgusting zombie ! (and maybe you lived in a hole but recently zombies are EVERYWHERE in the gaming industrie, you got dead nation, dead island, left for dead and so on.) Yeah zombie are marketable.
Still, Vergil is boring as fuck and outside that group, he’s not much.
Zombies are marketable yes. But not in a game like this, in shooters or those games where you blow thousands of them up for fun, not in a game where you’ve got people like Chun-Li and Iron Man. By contrast he’s not theme fitting, cool or even unique. He’s just basic.
I wasn’t saying that everyone in the community is a jerk. I wasn’t saying that every post is some elitist telling some new guy to fuck off.
What I was trying to explain, that elitist or “hardcore” players are not going to move copies of a game alone. I was trying to explain that alot of casuals have been deterred from playing this game b/c of a “bad taste” in their mouth.
As for me, yes my execution isn’t great. And yes, as much as I stare and read and try to do consistent combo’s, sometimes they just don’t come out. So, I go back to training mode and practice and practice. As far as online or anything else goes, it’s the non SRK community I guess on there that instead of pulling someone under their wing and giving tips, they just bash or trash talk. A few days after playing MvC 3, had a guy destroy me online, lol, and he taunted every chance he got. Haha, I didn’t get upset or anything I thought it was hilarious. I message the guy, “GG you completely destroyed me lol” and he answers back, “learn 2 play noob etc etc”. Was I upset about the taunts? Nope, that was hilarious. Was I upset about getting completely bodied? Nope, better player and I did learn a thing or 2. So why did I get upset? Negative attitude.
Just saying that if you want more people to buy these games so that they continue to get support, it has to be a bit more open to casuals. Maybe I threw SRK in the mix a bit too quickly, and for that I apologize. But as far as online etc, if its a bit more friendlier, and casuals don’t feel like outsiders (not saying sandbag, but how about beat my ass and when I message you, you can throw a tip or 2 in the reply?), you bring more players to the game/community, meaning more sales, meaning more developer support.
I don’t think he’s quite referring to SRK, but the people he runs into online. Which I can attest to. I’ve been playing on XBL since CVS2, and I’ve never run into an online community that was a bat shit fucking crazy as MVC3’s. Maybe there’s some massive egos being stroked because of the long combos, but when I start a room saying “Beginners, Unite” and I get some crazy asshole 6th Lord level psycho that comes in and starts yelling “It’s nothing personal!!!” over and over and over at increasing volume throughout the course of a match…makes me and my friends want to start observing Marvel players thru bulletproof glass rather than associate with them.
Don’t call what he does “journalism”. Games journalism doesn’t work like that. What he did was a combination of whining and impotent tard-rage. You are correct, however. Joe and his ilk DID have a hand in the downfall of this game.
Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me? a giant zombie getting his ass kicked by a hot chick (chun-li, trish or morrigan?) getting some well deserved sword to the his face? and so on
And also, Nemesis got a giant bazooka.
He is hype
As for vergil, he his what’s “hot” since the matrix sadly. it is a very popular archetype that sell real good.
To my opinion the roaster is fine, the “poor” sale come from the fact that…yeah it’s an update, nobody like to pay for a 1.5 version of a game, people who really enjoyed mvc3 are paying to better the evidence, the people that didnt buy mvc3 are, understably sceptic about a possible version 1.75, and people that overdosed on salt playing mvc3 most likely didnt buy ultimate.
Oh dear God, Angry Joe. I still don’t understand how anybody can take him seriously when he literally introduces himself to the people he interviews as “Angry Joe.”
I have no doubt that he probably did have some influence, just because I know how fanboys of that site work. One of the reviewers pisses on a cartoon movie or song? Get ready for a freaking avalanche of people claiming that they don’t see how anybody could ever like that product, because "how dare you disagree with my hero, you little miscreant?" It’s like they’re physically unable to disagree with whatever spews out of those reviewers’ mouths.
Ease of use might have something to do with it. I doubt that so many people were Sentinel fans when Vanilla came out.
"I AM ANGRY JOE! I AM A STAIN ON SOCIETY AND RIDING THE SUCCESS OF EVERY “ANGRY GAME PERSON” ON YOUTUBE! DEVELOPER! I AM ANGRY BECAUSE I PERCEIVE YOUR GAME AS INFERIOR! MAKE THIS GAME TO SUIT MY SPECIFIC TASTES OR FEEL THE FULL FORCE OF ANGRY JOE’S ANGER!"
Developer: “Security! I need you to tackle this guy! Pin him down so I can mock him safely!”
There’s one way to deal with a guy like Angry Joe. As soon as he gets in your face, pre-empt his ANGER with a headbutt. Don’t stop until he’s asleep, or you run out of headbutt ammo.
I don’t really wish him harm, but seriously…can’t be acting like that.
Haha, and this ain’t even Marvel2, that was some scary shit back then xD But there’s shitfucks in every game. COD (modern warfare, whatever) is a shithole of a “community” You don’t necessarily get hatemail, but if you have a mic, it’s a bunch of no brain idiots screaming in your ear CONSTANTLY. And it’s not just saying you suck or whatever, they’re screaming ORDERS at you. Why the fuck should I be taking orders from a 12 year old, playing somewhere under his mom’s skirt?
“It’s poor-man’s journalism. Matter of fact, it isn’t journalism, nor is it comedy, it’s just slander.”
-Me
There are retards in every online game. I totally understand where you’re coming from. But if you want to be a part of the true community in your area (you know, the offline stuff, where there’s so much fun to be had and so many great people to meet) nowadays, you kinda have to wade through all the online retards and assholes.
It’s not just new people getting all this hatemail, etc. I get hatemail when I body a fool, I get hatemail when I get bodied, I get hatemail when I send GGs, I get hatemail for trying to help… online makes people douchebags. Most of these cats wouldn’t even step-up if they were at a tournament IRL. You just need to keep that in mind, if you really have fun playing the game and like watching it.
Nah man, you can’t do that. These “celebrities” hide behind the “freedom-of-speech” and “Army of Fans” shields. If you say shit about any of them, outside a community that disagrees with his stupid-ass propaganda, you get 50+ replies telling you you’re a nazi, a brainwashed fool, capcom is eating your butthole, etc.
Youtube videos on Ultimate always derail into pissants whining about how Joe was right, even though they haven’t even bought the damn game; I guess being self-righteous for other people is the new thing on the internet?
