Maybe I’m a horrible person but I’m glad not a lot of ppl are buying this game
Yes I agree with CallCall, I do like the MvC3 series, but if Ultimate Money Grubbing 3 succeeded, Capcom would continue to try to steal our people’s money with half-assed updates like they did before.
I did buy the game and the guide so I’m not anti-Capcom or anti-community. But everybody kept saying vote with your wallets and they did. Everybody that wasn’t a total fanboy saw this coming, and now that Capcom knows what the masses DON’T want, maybe now they will start developing games/updates that people DO want.
I bought this game and really enjoy it so it doesn’t matter what I want because Capcom made there money off me already… Twice!
I’m speaking for the casual fighting game fans that already probably bought MvC3 and didn’t buy Ultimate because the characters that Marvel picked don’t appeal to the casual comic fans.
You’re really arguing a dumb point so please just stop, your saying that true Marvel fans know who the new characters are and that they are more popular than the 90s character… Guess what, true Marvel fans are a dying breed and is not the target audience for this game. Please learn about Marketing before, you write another essay about this topic
…I don’t think I actually bashed the game. I never said the game sucked, or crapped on it like others do. Matter of fact, I said the game is fun to a degree sometimes. I simply stated an observation over the months and gave reasons of why, and what possibly caused things to turn out this way, if the story is to be believed. And you’re right about Smash Bros, and people have likened the simplicity (of sorts) of UMvC3 to Smash Bros, and that’s hated upon to. Long story short, I don’t think people are as pleased with how MvC3/UMvC3 turned out as a whole, and my hope is that Capcom takes the criticism well and does better next time. As I said, I’m a fan…and as much as I’d like to play it well, this game…something about it, just rubs me wrong. shrug
Not really
His point is you have no idea what the casual comic fan from the 2000’s era want.
The 90’s x-men cartoon has been replaced by “Avengers : earth mightest hero” on marvel “casual” appeal now (guess what, rocket raccoon apear on this show).
Reading what you posted, his point is valid.
the casual teenagers from the 90’s are not the market that mvc3 tend to cater to.
If you think capcom will learn from their mistakes then well…
Who’s Psylocke?
I know who Venom is easily; he was in the Spider-Man cartoon and was really popular among kids. And I know who Cable is, mostly due to his sheer exposure during the 90s. Gambit I know barely, since I didn’t watch the old X-men cartoon, but I think he was in the movies and it’s hard to forget a guy who throws exploding cards and has an accent.
Psylocke? Who the hell is Psylocke? I doubt many people like her because of her gameplay, since all I see of her in MvC2 matches is her assist (Or her getting the snot beat out of her).
You brought up “issues” with the game (Dark Phoenix, not turning instantly when you fly over an opponent or are doing an aerial attack, etc.). Ergo, you bashed it, although in a nicer way than most people do.
And honestly, if you don’t like the game, I’m glad you’re not going to keep playing it and are voicing your opinion about what went wrong. Games are supposed to be fun, and it’s hard to have fun when you don’t like what you’re playing.
Agreed.
My point still stands that the character’s that are most voted for on fighting game community message boards, are the ones that are widely recognized by the masses.
This is a fighting game right? Isn’t that the target audience that Capcom should cater to? And yes, I know it’s not Capcom’s fault that we got such oddball characters that the majority of the FGC does not care about. Marvel just using this game as a tool to promote there crappy movies
Capcom wasn’t entirely guilt free of doing this either their characters were just already requested/popular
Frank West - Included to promote Dead Rising 2: Off the Record
Nemesis - Included to promote Operation Raccoon City
Phoenix Wright - Included to promote assload of (Japan) releases from crossovers, stand alone games, to even a movie
I have no explanation for Firebrand, Strider, or Vergil though in regards to this line of thinking
Vergil and Strider due to fan popularity (and Phoenix Wright), and Firebrand because of his unique playstyle.
I can’t type tone, I’m actually curious
lol @ you claiming that I have “blind rage”… what a cop out to use an an excuse for not responding to every point that shows you are a hypocrite. I have not expressed anger or frustration, where’s this rage you speak of?
For the 3rd time you ignored the fact that you have no credibility talking about fan favorites, with a different excuse every time. Apparently you rather play damage control than have an actual conversation.
And be real, your not speaking for the casual fighting game fans, your speaking for yourself. Casual fans don’t care that much, they just want to have fun and don’t go on forums making a big deal that they dont get the characters they want. It’s not that big of a deal.
Once again you say “Marvel picked don’t appeal to the casual comic fans.”… you are NOT a casual comic fan and have already made it apparent that you don’t know the FIRST THING about the casual comic fans. And you claim that I’m arguing a dumb point? Your speaking as a straight hypocrite. If you want to be taken seriously you need to stop the act.
Marvel fans are a dying breed? Marvel is more popular now than it was when the characters you named was popular. In a comparison YOU are the dying breed. Once again talking like a hypocrite. You act like because you havent read Marvel since the 90’s then noone else must have, and you obviously need a reality check.
Your saying they should try to sell characters from the 90’s in 2011 and claiming I have to learn about marketing? Jokes… You need to wake up and realize it’s not the 90’s anymore. I know Nick at Nite is your favorite TV channel, but sorry man it’s not the most popular channel on tv.
I seriously doubt that Venom, Gambit and Psylocke being in the game would have made any sort of difference in sales for the game. Marvel putting in the characters they did was solely for their benefit. None of the characters I’ve listed above are current. I believe the idea is that gamers and comic book readers are closely related and intersecting subsets. I think Marvel envisions people playing some of the characters in the game, then getting curious enough to research them and buy some comics. This strategy doesn’t work with characters that don’t have current storylines.
honestly
i just wanted some young avengers in. (mainly wiccan, i love him)
are they irrelevant?
i’m just gonna go out on a limb and say no.
people only use venom gambit and psylocke because they are the names that come to mind as extremely popular, not because they are the be all end all.
also gonna stretch on a limb and say arguing about comics won’t work. i usually research my claims, but im positive that gaming is a bigger industry then comics in way less time too.
make simple points guys. related to the game
the target of Umvc3? those most likely to play it
marvel fans
capcom fans
fighting game fans
those who purchased MVC3
those who played something in the Versus franchise
capcom chose who they somehow felt would draw the most people in and relate most to future story arcs.
i can’t say marvel entirely missed the mark, old sentinel and jean grey are in.
That’s comparing apples to oranges. To put out a comic you need a writer, artist, editor, colorist. To put out a video game you need way more then that. Of course gaming is going to be a bigger industry if we’re comparing apples to oranges.
But let’s try to look at some common ground. Comics have successfully been translated into blockbuster movies (Dark Knight with 533 million). In comparison, the highest grossing video game movie was Tomb Raider with 131 million. Dark Knight made more then that in it’s opening weekend. Not really much of a comparison.
Now comics have also successfully transitioned into video games albeit with less success. How many video game franchises have made the successful transition into comic books? None that I know of.
Venom/Gambit/Psylocke have all been in a movie before. No point for Marvel to include them in UMvC3. But for Iron Fist/Nova/Dr.Strange, maybe they can use the game to get more people interested in the comics. And then they might have a surprise blockbuster movie for a less popular character like they did with Iron Man which spawned two movies grossing more then 310 million each. To them, that’s worth much more then satisfying a couple dozen fighting game fans who are crying about Venom/Gambit/Psylocke not being in UMvC3.
From a business standpoint, Venom/Gambit/Psylocke just don’t make sense for Marvel.
Halo has enjoyed decent success in both comic and novel form. I know that Assassin’s Creed had a comic miniseries. I think I saw a COD Graphic Novel recently…as much as that flies in the face of everything I believe in.
Also, back when Pokemon was first taking off, it had some of the manga translated into English and sold in the US
Also, I recall a few games being promoted via comics, like Prototype
I would read a MvC comic.
Too bad the one in the intro was crap, lol.
