I think SFxT will be a huge success. It seems pretty clear to me that there’s almost zero chances that the casual player might see the gem system in a derogatory way. On the contrary, I’m pretty sure they will find it amusing, and that’s exactly what Capcom is actually aiming for, IMO. But not only that: the sole fact that this is a crossover between 2 of the most famous fighting game franchises will most surely spark the interest of casual fans, especially those relapsed fighting game fans that remember unce upon a time having played either of those games, or seen somebody playing it. They will probably want to check it out. If Capcom drives a strong and smart publicity campaign aimed at the mainstream audience (not limiting it to the people that don’t really need that publicity to know the game is coming out - i.e. the fighting game community), I’m confident they have a blockbuster in their hands.
Yeah SFxT will sell fine. It will be the first version of the game and it brings a lot of new concepts including pitting SF and Tekken characters against each other, the gem system, and some comcepts that haven’t been done in Capcom fighters for a while like all 4 characters being on screen at once. Stuff like that will instantly grab the casual gamer especially for a fresh new game. Super SFxT will just as likely have more trouble making as much sales and then any update after that.
It’s just obvious that MVC3 is especially going to have done most of its sales during Vanilla because of the circumstances and the type of game it is.
Anyone who thinks that this going to stop Capcom from milking franchises with DLC and new discs is hilarious. When you are selling a product to a niche market, That niche usually will buy up anything and everything related to the game. If you can sell a game that sells one million copies with those people buying $30 worth of DLC. You can make more money than a game that sells significantly more copies because that $30 is way more profitable due to less costs to produce the content. If Blizzard can make twenty million selling a horse for 1 day for World of Warcraft, The nickle and diming with DLC will never stop. Say hello to the future. If anything, this is going to make Capcom consider the DLC market for their games more in the future because you can’t always trust sales. (See SFXT for proof)
Edit: Fail at math is fail.
If you think that you obviously have not read any Marvel comics since the '90’s… and if you havent read a Marvel comic in over 10 years can you really consider yourself a Marvel fan?
I thought the excuse from Ubisoft was moreso that AC2 and Brotherhood/Rev was more of engine tweaks and graphical ones since they’re merely episodes. We won’t get a true sequel for a while.
Wow, some unconfirmed sales numbers. What a great excuse for SRK Forum fighters to whine about every little problem they have with Ultimate Marvel 3.
“the game didnt sell because weskers still too good”
“wheres megaman”
“why cant i win”
So glad this ass game didn’t sell shit. Capcom should stop making fighting games cuz they are ASS at it.
No one will no the real sales figures until year end financials are produced, and that’s not till like… next June, when this game will have already faded into oblivion.
Capcom in general has been digging themselves in a hole consistently over the past several years. Revenue simply have not been matching expectations that come with development and other costs for most of their games. Just about the only franchises that have been performing profitably in recent times are Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara, and the former has entered a questionable territory again with Capcom opting to release the latest upcoming version on the 3DS instead of the PSP or the Vita where overwhelming majority of their core users are (not sure what they were thinking since it’s inevitably going to repeat the disappoint that came with release of MH Tri on the Wii).
Only idiots would keep supporting them. Don’t give me that “we’re committed gamers/gotta support the community” bullshit. The only way they will stop the bullshit is if you idiots stop supporting their behavior. Keep supporting them while I’m on the side watching Capcom make it rain with your money. WINNING!
We get to play the games though. And they’re p. fun too. So there’s that.
I think its pretty understandable why someone who isn’t a hardcore fighting game fan would skip an update for a game that they bought only a couple of months ago, especially with so many new titles coming out. I dont, however, think it makes UMVC3 a bad game, just that Capcom burned out its consumers a little on this one.
so u have to be a hardcore gamer to support capcom? They know damn well they can keep mooch off of you guys, that’s why they shit out a new version every several months…
If you idiots keep supporting them, they’ll just continue to do same old bullshit until you idiots get the hint. THEN, they will put the time and effort in trying to develope w/e games they gonna put on the market and let them marinade for atleast 2 years without any fucking DCL update that charge us $40+
Capcom didn’t have much say (if any) as to which new Marvel characters to put in. That was pretty much all Marvel. Nova, Dr. Strange, and Iron Fist have been getting a lot of attention in the comic books lately. Same with Hawkeye, who is also going to be in the Avengers film next year. Ghost Rider has a movie also. The characters all make sense for a business standpoint for Marvel.
I’m sure the only one Capcom probably had a say in was Rocket Raccoon. The reason I say this is that Capcom has always had a thing for oddball characters. They really had to tug on Marvel’s arm to include Shuma-Gorath as DLC in MvC3.
Some people want Venom/Juggernaut/Gambit/Psylocke etc, but those people aren’t Marvel fans. Venom/Juggernaut/Gambit/Psylocke haven’t been relevant in comics for the past decade. Marvel’s priority is not so much about selling copies of the UMvC3, but rather selling/promoting their own comics. They’re not gonna want to put in characters into the game that they don’t have any big plans for in their own comics universe.
A lot of people say, why not use established characters from previous iterations like Cable but forget that Cable himself was a new character in MvC2. And it’s not like people bought into MvC2 because of Cable.
As for the Capcom characters go, yes there is no Mega Man. But I highly doubt that by including him, sales would double/triple. He was in MvC1 and I don’t think it was a sales success (?). He was in MvC2 and it was a sales success, but was that due to Mega Man. I highly doubt it. Mega Man Volnutt was in TvC and that was not a sales success. Can you really say that Mega Man sells fighting games?
No matter what characters were put in, it would have still sold poorly. You can’t put up a game for the casual market 9 months after the previous iteration, with only a 33% increase in characters, price it at 67% of the original and in the same month as Call of Duty MW3 and expect it to sell well.
SSF4 at least waited 15 months with a 52% increase in characters (not to mention 19 additional ultras for the original cast) and priced it at 67% of the original and in a month where there weren’t any other blockbusters released and it sold well.
I actually had some guy on my friends list msg me a couple of days ago.
Him: Is Ken in it yet?
Me: No
Him: Garbage
Me: lol
I knew i would get a comment like this,
If you want to make the game appeal to the masses, not just the few nerds that only read comics. YOU GOTTA INCLUDE THE FAN FAVORITES! and yes that means the characters from the 90s like Venom, Gambit, Cyclops, you know, characters that top out on EVERY character vote… Just gotta deal with it
The masses don’t care about the majority of the marvel characters that were released, It’s the truth and the few Marvel fanboys don’t consist of the majority of the people that play this game or even buy it. This games shouldn’t be catered to Marvel fans, it should be catered to fighting game fans.
just because someone doesn’t read recent marvel comics and enjoys older characters doesn’t make them not a marvel fan.
enjoying something made by marvel makes you a marvel fan, unless you want to be anal, then no one is a fan of marvel because no one likes everything they do.
lets not pretend modok was prominent in comics.
with all the x-men there are thats a lame excuse, especially considering every issue doesn’t have every one.
how many people did you know thought deadpool was spiderman in another new costume. be honest.
>Game that’s a massive crossover between Marvel COMICS and Capcom
>Game should appeal to Marvel fans from the 90’s that never once picked up he comics.
>Shouldn’t cater toMarvel fans
Man this is some straight retarded shit.
We’re talking about a sales perspective here. From a sales perspective, yes, you should cater to the dedicated Marvel fanbase but you also need to include characters that the average gamer can recognize.
Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, Magneto, Phoenix, amd Storm.
All in the first game. Why would I buy the same game to get the same characters?
