ULTIMATE Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - OFFICIAL

Does anyone have the feeling that Strider is the new Yun of this game, possibly worse than that? He seems to have everything, great keepaway, great normals, great speed and mobility, good damage, and his health seems to be Wolverine-level rather than Zero-level. I am sure he wouldn’t be brain dead or execution-easy but it didn’t seem to take long for those using him on stream to get very good with him.

I’m gonna just drop it after this because I don’t want to stir up trouble.
Yes I know Rocket Raccoon is a legitimate (serious?) character in the Marvel comic books, but I want to know exactly what Rocket’s appeal is to audiences to justify him talking up a very precious marvel slot in UMvC3. I thought maybe he’d appeal to Marvel fans, but I’ve checked out a lot of forums and a lot of Marvel fans are angry with him being in this game also, possibly even moreso then capcom side, as a lot of good marvel characters have gotten the shaft in this game already.

Now I’m hearing that they might save the high profile Marvel/Capcom characters for DLC, and that sounds like a good idea… if you’re trying to piss people off.

Those who are angry at him can’t be called Marvel fans. They are probably all those who have followed comics in the 90’s and haven’t been following them lately, because lots of real Marvel fans consider the 6 chosen to be a dream team.

I haven’t watched the stream yet, but I wouldn’t get too worked up or jump the gun just yet. There’s still a ton of time before release and by the looks of it - a lot of work too.

I like to think of him as the horrible mutant offspring of Wesker and Zero, and I really like the sounds of that. He lacks a self OTG from what I’ve heard though. His best super from 2 is now a level 3 (subject to change) not to mention this is a beta. I’m sure he’ll be top tier but not to the point of OMGNERFYUNANDPHEENICKSLOLOLOL

I feel like I got so lucky in the advent of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and subsequently Ultimate Marvel 3. I’m really quite the oddball around here. I’m not really too big on comic books, and a lot of my favorite Capcom series aren’t close to as popular as most others. Viewtiful Joe is my absolute favorite Capcom character I’m a fan of anything done by Clover Studios, so naturally Amaterasu and Gene are some of my favorites as well.

The reason main why I even wanted to play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is because Viewtiful Joe was a playable character in it. Then in Ultimate All-Stars they added Frank West and being a fan of the original Dead Rising I picked him up and I loved playing as him.

With the announcement of Marvel 3 the main things I wanted were the return of Viewtiful Joe and Frank West and the addition of Amaterasu who I also had wanted in Tatsunoko. As disappointed as I was with no Frank it was more than made up for with the addition of Amaterasu who immediately became part of my main Marvel 3 team.

What happens when Ultimate Marvel 3 comes around? Frank comes back. It’s just… odd. Naturally I’m happy and excited, but man, it almost confuses me that Capcom seems to be catering to what I want of all people and not anyone else. I have a thing for oddball characters and choices so I love Firebrand and Rocket Raccoon. Especially since I’ve seen Firebrand’s gameplay. They’ve already taken the other two spots on my secondary team next to Frank West.

So yeah, I’m really wanting Ultimate Marvel 3. Capcom is getting my money. I do feel a little guilty considering how disappointed a lot of other are in the roster tho’.

I like plenty of those characters - PLENTY - but we didn’t get them. I would’ve love to have a lot of them in, but we got Rocket Raccoon, Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Ghost Rider, and Nova. And you know what? I like some of those characters too. I could care less about Strange and Ghost Rider - but instead of complaining that I didn’t get every single thing I wanted, I’m appreciating the stuff I like. I would love if Strange and Ghost Rider were cut for almost anybody you listed - but it’s pointless to whine about it.

Another thing: Didn’t a ton of people want Strange? Didn’t a ton of people want Ghost Rider? We get them and all people do is complain about something else.

i have no rants about the other characters, in my previous post, i clearly said i would fkc with pretty much everyone in the new upcoming roster.

just not rocket raccoon because as i said above there are 50 other awesome legit characters that could have gotten that spot he had. i dont expect them to change it since obviously that wouldnt happen. point given im just sayin it would have been solid if someone else took his place in marvel side

Nemesis has me baffled. Like, completely baffled. How did his name ever get brought up, let alone taken so far that he would be put in the game?
He isn’t even a fucking character. He has no story, no personality. Nothing. He’s just a monster that stalked you in ONE game, TWELVE years ago, from a series that already has THREE representatives. And to top it off, RE3 is probably one of the most unpopular enties into the main series. Marvel side of the roster looks lame to me, but in all fairness I don’t read comics so I really only know the Xmen and there are already alot of them in this game. The capcom side makes me really disappointed though. Word that X factor appears fairly unchanged also really disappoints.

Edit: Just so I don’t seem like too much of a hater, I’m a huge RE fan, and RE3 is probably my favorite of the “classic” era RE games. But fucking Nemesis?

You are entitled to your opinion regarding nemesis, but the bolded part is just not a good argument considering sentinel is one of the most popular characters in this game. I for one would like to see what they do with a bunch of these characters before I cry foul. Rocket raccoon could be the new cable for all we know, whilst novas power(which I didn’t know of prior to last night) could allow for some very interesting hypers(he can absorb energy apparently), and dr strange should also allow for an equally interesting moveset. And if they can make vergil half as unique as dante we will have another deep character to deal with. So far Im impressed, strider looks as badass as ever, whilst firebrand, ghost rider and hawkeye all seem to have something unique to their gameplay.

alright I promise that I will find something better to do with my time, but I want to make one last comment.
I’m less concerned about their being imbalances to the game (Yun, and Phoenix) then having to pay $$$ for class rebalance, and a bunch of features like Spectator mode that should have been on the disc in the first place.

As I said I’m definitely willing to pay for it, and it’s true that capcom has been doing stuff like this since forever, but SF and MvC series weren’t mainstream back then, the SF4 and MvC3 series are mainstream. Maybe I’m being silly but I think Capcom would have done better business wise to give a lot of this stuff for free to allow the community to grow and enjoy the game. Then when it’s already reached it’s peak fanbase (possibly double what it is now), THEN start milking the players with expansion packs, and make all that money back and then some.

I would really be interested in seeing how this multiple expansion stuff has affected SSF4:AE’s popularity at Evo, compared to vanilla SF4’s turnout.

Ok so there is no reason anymore to keep MVC3. When this comes out everyone is going to play ultimate because of the phoenix nerf. Gotta sell my copy while it’s still worth something! We shall see how long this game stays fun, MVC3 was fun online for couple of weeks but then sentinels, spammers and phoenix’s rose and ruined it, offline is only fun if you have friends because capcoms mighty idea to add dlc shadow battles and events for offline play EXCEPT you can’t play them offline -___-

Also I’m happy for the new characters finally getting into game and re-balancing is needed (that’s why I don’t play MVC3 online anymore) but somehow this whole ultimate feels pretty meh I hope it’s good because I liked MVC2 and MVC3 had potential but still not sure if I’m going to buy this anywhere near release date.

Yeah, Niitsuma gave an interview adressing this recently.

Destructoid: I’m going to ask something you’ve probably already heard a few times since today’s announcement: Why wouldn’t this release just be downloadable add-on content instead of a disc?

Niitsuma: After the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. That had an impact on everything, and it threw off our whole development schedule. We decided that instead of doing the DLC we could put it all together in one package, add some additional stuff to make it robust and deliver it as a disc.
