I thought I did the full-on wineglass but i actually do it like daigo in that video.
lmfao
same here moving the stick with a more stroking motion than a grip only grabbing the shaft in frustration.
I call it the monkey spank
I am just starting out so I might as well learn the wine glass method.
Thanks for the video.
Eagle/Wine Glass combo FTW. I keep it either between the ring and middle finger, or index and middle, with my thumb on top.
Damn it looks like our wine glass hold must be adjusted for proper temperature.

I am SOOO glad to hear someone else say this. Now I wont throw my brand new stick in the garbage.
You’ll get it man. Just need time.
FWIW, here is Daigo’s style and advice.

Nice find there Robo.
i find it strange he is saying ‘this way is right and that way is wrong’
you would think it doesnt matter how you hold it as long as you practice and are comfortable.
It’s the same way I hold it in training mode or during trials or whatever, when I’m actually paying attention to my execution. I do feel my execution is best that way. But in an actual match that all falls apart and I end up . Probably from so much time in US arcades in my formative years.
Ha! I thought I was the only one who did that!
I think the closest one to how I use it is the douchebag  Except I use my pinky for a little extra guidance and thumb to push it back the other way and my hand slightly slanted instead of being dead on top XD
I’m fussy XD
It’s almost been a year since I did this video! It’s my most viewed youtube video. I’m so proud of you guys and your unique joystick holds, it only not only has inspired the video but also inspires me every time I see someone holding a joystick in a different way.
I need help with using a stick. It’s great to see the different holds people use but I need it to be taken a step further. With your hold I’d like to see how you input each direction(left right up down and diagonals) and how you input qcf, qcb, 360, 720, shoryuken, half circle forward/back, how you bounce from one diagonal to another or one direction to another(such as with charge characters). I’ve seen videos of people doing just hadoken but that isn’t quite enough. Also seeing shortcut methods for shoryuken and 360 aren’t helpful either becase sf4 is not the only fighting game in the world and in other games those short cuts dont work. So if an indepth video could be made it would be much appreciated.
Is there a specific problem you are having? It’d be nice if there were videos like that, but you shouldn’t really need one to get started.
well the problem is I’ll start out with a grip and I’ll say “hhmmm that seems comfortable” but then I can only do qcf but everything else doesn’t seem remotely comfortable. And I do realize it takes getting used to but when I’m not seeing how someone would attempt to pull off a certain input at all, it’s a problem For some grips it’s just that hitting certain directions isn’t comfortable but the special inputs are. So I really would like to know specifically how people are hitting directions and how they are inputting special commands(qcf, qcb, 360 etc etc). Another problem I’m finding is that it’s hard to tap certain directions lightning quick(mainly up uf ub) and I don’t want to have to sort of reposition my hand to tap directions. In a live matchI need to be able to access every direction and every special input at any time and be able to do it quickly.
And if someone does make a video if you could go through the inputs slowly so I can see what you’re doing it would be helpful. If you do something complicated lightning fast that’s great but as a spectator I gain nothing. So kind of a slow demonstration and then show it fast.
my grip is not listed in that vid. i use the same for both a bat top and a balltop. the best i can describe it as like a kitten bats a ball of yarn back and forth. for 360 moves i rotate the top against the inside of my palm and roll it around to the tip of my fingers and repeat. i play multiple characters but main honda and have never had an issue using this grip, or lack of grip i should say.
