Hey i saw some discussion about Ghost Rider a few pages back but i was wondering why no one is talking about his damn near Full screen Snap back. Its 2 frames to punish or stop the startup of anything and get a possible mixup attempt on the incoming charecter…kinda reminds me of the dragon tail move in pokemon
I’m really happy with Hulk but kinda saddened by IronFist. Everyone says IronFist hits like a truck but really he doesn’t hit any harder than Sentinel, Hulk, Thor or even Nova meanwhile all of these characters have some sort of armor attacks and/or mobility options. Even Hulk has more ways to open a character up than IronFist between armored attacks, gammawave, c.light, and his command grab. IronFist though? We’ll he’s gotta a C that goes really far and uh… a good wave dash?
im sure they mean for a charecter of that class or type hits hard.
Yeah Iron Fist clearly has better movement speed than all of those characters for how hard he hits. People have been saying kara cancels really open up some serious 3d fighter style mix ups with him so we’ll see.
do them mixups do anything about up back though?
or something just hitting him
The main “issue” with Firebrand is determining where he falls best on a team. He works well in all three slots - he has a crazy mixup game backed by assists to extend combos on point, but does get a bit meter heavy for the big damage. In the second slot, he has absolutely brutal DHC potential (DHC into Luminous Body can follow up just about any hyper for a large combo) and both his fire breath and swoop assists can be a big boost to a point character. As anchor he has the really scary X-Factor + Luminous Body options, not to mention his level 3, although I still think his level 3 is only going to be situational as he has lots of options to open opponents up without it and his other hypers are just too good to spend 3 bars on something else.
For now I’m running him second - since much of the cast is having a hard time killing in one combo, I think the Luminous DHC is the best choice and my main pointmen (Chris or Trish) really benefit from both the fireball OTG and the aerial swoop.
In order to do anything about up back with Iron Fist you’ll need an anti air based assist like jam session or Strider’s vajra. That’s going to go for most of the ground based rushdown characters the way this game is going. Wolverine is going to get stomped on without an AA assist by Trish, Morrigan or Firebrand the way shit is going. Even C.Viper has trouble against those characters without an AA assist and she has a freaking air dash.
The overall best strategy as far as rushdown in this game is going to change from characters that tear you up if they get you on the ground to characters that can rush you down if they want…but also be able to regularly hover at a range where you can’t do anything to them safely. Which would effectively take characters like Wolvie/X-23/Jill and other ground rushers off the map unless you build the whole team around them
. The problem with those characters was never really so much getting in…it was the fact that EVEN WHEN YOU DO get in unless you have very specific assists against certain types of characters there’s still not much you can do. The era of ground rush characters making a big impact without the entire team built around them is nearly over the way I see things going.
If I do recall correctly I was one of the first defending Novas status as A tier Minimum … All of the tools were obviously there. FlyingVE has done a remarkable job figuring out a lot of his tech I wont even lie I am practicing most of your shit… That Javelin glitch is just ridiculous. I also Said Firebrand and Hawkeye were being slept on hard. Everyone knows Vergil will be Day one bad ass (He has a trench coat and a sword) I Still Stand by my thoughts that Dr Strange and Strider once completely figured out will be the cause of real life altercations at gaming events. I am still Laughing at all of the “OMG Nova Rocks” shit I am seeing all over the internet lately I called that too the Richard Rider Bandwagon is in full swing. This game is so much better than Vanilla… there are still several older cast members that were ok before that are a serious problem now… .
I would have to agree. There is way too much good stuff going on in the air in UMvC3, much more so than in Vanilla. This is a big reason why I’m having to hit the lab harder than ever with Chris because although as a character he got much better - he still has the same glaring flaw from Vanilla in his serious lack of air game and air defense. It is actually proving to be a bigger problem now than it ever was before with so many other characters having great aerial options. Chris being a character than can still “Touch of Death” in Ultimate is meaning less and less with each passing day as he is going to be hard pressed to get that chance in a lot of the new matchups.
That having been said, straight up zoning is making somewhat of a comeback (see: any of the MSS teams from recent tournament streams), which is another reason why ground-rushing is having a hard time, so Chris can be a solid part of a team like that, but I feel the zoning aspect won’t have as big of an overall impact as it was predicted it might. It is kind of ironic that one of the better rushdown characters also happens to have some of the best (current) zoning in Nova. Strange days indeed.
thoughts on nemesis?
he gets rushed worse than sent although once gets momentum …
The funny thing about that, as a big contributor of the Nova tech, I don’t think Nova will remain S tier. He’ll probably settle in A somewhere in a few months. Not that that’s bad, but his Neutral is his weakness, you can cover that with assists, but jerks like Strider, Firebrand, Viper, and Zero just totally dominate that phase of the game.
You are saying that only because you are yet to see what Felicia can do… when you see it in NEC I think everyone will agree that Felicia is the new Wolverine and potentially the very best character in UMvC3.
 I don’t quite agree that Nemesis gets rushed worse than Sentinel.
They both have armor to eke out attacks while taking one to the chest, but Nemesis’ advantage is that he always has :l: Clothesline Rocket to keep him safe (what a good move). I think his command grab is slower, but it has infinite range and can also be angled, so Nemesis can stop most basic types of rush before they even start.
Obviously Sentinel deals with stuff better from fullscreen with drones and lasers, but if you add in that next level of rush to the equation with teleports and left/rights, I find that Sentinel folds very quickly, where Nemesis can use some clever input buffering to at least attempt autocorrect armored normals or specials that he can make safe. Nemesis also punishes raw teleports infinitely better than Sentintel, I think, since he is less likely to be in a position to get punished at fullscreen than Sentinel (who shamelessly keeps himself active at fullscreen) and his regular grab leads to more meterless damage than Sentinel’s by giving up the great oki that Sentinel gets from his.
Don’t think it would surprise anyone to see Felecia do well. She was always one of those secretly really good characters in Vanilla. Was just totally outclassed by derp model wolverine.
I think it’s too early to say ground rush is going to be phased out. For one thing we have new aa assists like Log Trap and Vajira. I’ve been contemplating switching Task to vertical arrows to counter the new flight-based-gameplans.
I am having a hard time figuring out if Hawkeye is A tier or B tier. At long range he seems very strong, but seems to have a huge gap in his diagonal spacing attacks which means a jumping Chris, Deadpool, and Taskmaster should give him problems at range. Up close he seems very limited, but I manage to get hits on people all the time even when getting pressured and I suck with Hawkeye.
Gimlet & “Just the Tip” are legit broken. His assists are nice. Combo damage is decent, but not over-the-top.
I just feel like Taskmaster is a better version of Hawkeye. Am I wrong?
I am most definitely intrigued by these whispers… whispers in the night… whispers… calling her name… “Feliiiiciaaaaaa” What was that?? Did you just hear something???
Anyway, what’s the deal? Does the air Delta kick push her that far over the edge that even teleport characters bow down to the pretty tittied kitty? Or she get some other buffs that aren’t widely discussed? If she IS that good on point, then she’s even better as a character, because putting her 2nd gives your first unblockable potential and such. Intriguing.
While I certainly agree that Firebrand is a very good character, it’s a little disingenuous to say Firebrand one hit kills on the right team when you are tagging into some other character after Bon Voyage.
His problem IS his damage and I am not certain that will ever get completely solved. Having said that, I think your approach of using him to open people up then bringing someone in to finish the job might be the proper way to play him.
^While I like the usage of “disingenuous” I think for all intents and purposes it doesn’t matter if it’s all in one combo. Sort of like DHC glitch starters.
I know you guys all laugh at Arthur, but Sweet Jesus the Nemesis/Arthur matchup is enough to make a grown man cry.
