That was back in Vanilla. He’s still meter hungry for no reason but he’s much more solid now with his new tools.
That reminds me, I should pick him up again for great trolling.

I think I’ll go ahead and field this one for the good looking gentleman. You see, once upon a time, there was a link. And an evil sorceror clicked on it and skipped to the 29 minute mark. It was there he found a genie who graned him 47 wishes and then he kidnapped the princess lived happily ever after. Here was that link:
Firebrand’s damage isn’t low the same reason that Storm’s damage was essentially not low in Vanilla. Yes her actual hits did less damage, but if she were put on a team that rewarded her strengths if she touched you it meant you were dead. A team designed to make Firebrand scary is what his tier placement should be based on. If someone in effect does 900k at a certain meter cost, as long as there’s no way to escape it then that’s what really matters.
Viper’s not the only option just an excellent one.
Have you found other ways to setup Bon Voyage’s out of the corner for raw tags other than Doom’s Missiles? That’s mostly what I was using to tag into Level 3’s to break that 900k point.
Okay, I’m only posting this for discussion purposes, and given how new the game is this is all likely very wrong (read 100% correct). Potential tiers means I don’t think they are there yet, but they easily could be.
S+: C.Viper
S: Zero, Dante
Potential S: Vergil, Nova, Firebrand, Strider, Rocket Raccoon, Spencer, Wesker, Frank West
A:Wolverine, Magnus, Doom, Phoenix, Felecia, Dormmamu, Trish, Storm
Potential A: X23, Jill, Hawkeye, TaxMaster, Dr. Strange, SpiderMan, Iron Man, Ryu, Akuma, Captain America
B: Skrull, Chris, Ammy, Thor, MODOK, Chun-Li, Deadpool, Nemesis, Ghost Rider, Hulk, V.Joe, Sentinel
Potential B: Iron Fist, Shuma, Hsien-Ko, Haggar, She-Hulk
C: Authur, Tron, Phoenix Wright*
*Phoenix Wright is weird, I think he crap, but he could potentially be the best character in the game, so I don’t really no how to rank that. He’s potentially anywhere. The fact that the character relies on a dumb luck mechanic makes ranking him even harder.
I’m sure I forgot someone.
I main Arthur since Vanilla because I just love the character, and in Ultimate, people are being salty towards him… he’s MUCH better now.
Not top tier for sure, but also not worst character material anymore.
@Kjunk:
I tag facing the corner to get the hit of tag, spacing it his hard though, trying to find stable ones against fat characters like Sentinel. I may just double super against Sent as that’ll do just short of 800.
@FlyingVe:
I agree that Frank is really really good, but better than Magneto?
Rider is A
This can be said with any character. Any character can be made to be more scary with the proper assists. Sentinel can still HSF -> Rocket Punch -> Plasma Storm and pump out 1+ million, but he’s still not high on the tier list.
Storm’s damage WAS low and without the DHC glitch, she didn’t have enough oomph in a game where one touch kills are prevalent.
Ironfist is only scary with assists, while Firebrand can stand on his own without them. Ironfist can solo kill off one touch, while Firebrand needs a certain set of chars to equal that damage off BV. I’d DEFINITELY put Firebrand above IronFist, but damage would not be the reason why.
I am not sure you should tier a character based on how they work with the proper assists. It should be taken into account, but it should not define where a character resides in the tier lists. (IMHO)
Ah yeah, Viper has no problem comboing after a connected raw tag for some reason. So gross.
Yep, you forgot Morrigan.
I knew I missed someone… But I would say C… Sorry Morrigan, i wish you didn’t still suck.
ROCKET POTENTIALLY AT S??!? I just don’t get this character. I spent 2 hours in the lab with him yesterday and felt like I was no better at understanding his gameplay than I was before I started. I am just totally fucking confused by this rat.
Nemesis: B- to B+
Frank: B- to A-
Phoenix Wright: C- to B-
Strider: A- to S
Vergil: B+ to A+
Firebrand: B to A-
Rocket: B- to B+
Hawkeye: B to A-
Dr. Strange: B- to A
Ghost Rider: B- to B+
Nova: B to A
Ironfist: C+ to B
Spencer, Taskmaster, Storm, and Doom are all STUPID good in this game and jumped quite a bit from Vanilla.
Cap & Ryu go down for most improved.
He’s in that Potential A. It doesn’t mean he’s better, just that he could be, he’s got more potential than Magnus, but it might not amount to much. I’m working on something broken with Frank at the moment, but I’m not gonna say to much yet, because I don’t know if I can get it working.
In short, Potential A means he’s A right now, but could go up.
@Helsynge:
I’m sorry, you wrong on that one. You should ALWAYS tier characters as though they have the proper assists, you didn’t tier wolverine without akuma, you didn’t tier Phoenix on teams that were bad for her. When tiering you assume the character is being used correctly and at it’s mac potential. That means correct assists.
Now what does and does not constitute a “correct assist” is debatable.
I still think she’ll end up solidly B(at least, if all but like, 3 people nationwide don;t drop her in the first week like the last time around). Her keep away is more rewarding now, her damage out put is much higher, Astral Vision gets x-factor damage bonuses now, she moves better than before, she can actually capitalize on throws now, and Firebrand is the only character with a faster flight. Finishing Shower also sucks considerably less, although it still could be better. Dark Harmonizer is also a really, really good assist for the right teams.
Don’t get me wrong, she got some good buffs, but I think they are offset by the system changes and some new characters.
The meter gain nerf and airdash change really hurt her. And some new characters are nightmarish matchups methinks.
Meter gain didn’t hurt much at all actually. She actually still works either as a battery or user, never really worked as both at the same time. Air dash change hurts a lot less than I thought it would, because her flight is just silly fast now for movement. Can’t comment too much yet on the new match ups, other than fuck gimlet. The biggest change that hurt her was her hypers being added to the air actions list, and if Shadow Blade cancels flight it no longer counts as part of the flight action even though it was activated under flight. That killed flight extensions to her air combos pretty bad for anything but meter building, but she still nets much more damage than she used to. The only other system change that had a large impact on her was x-factor minimum scaling, she can’t meterlessly kill the entire cast from any touch ala Wesker in XF3 anymore, need to spend 1 meter to drop the tanks now.
just look how hard he is to hit , how mobile he is , then understand people are starting to crank way the hell up to worrying levels of damage
his only downside is his range but since you pretty much can get in whenever the hell you like
we shall see though
Exactly.
Hence, POTENTIAL S, not S, POTENTIAL S.
@hellsynge:
The characters in their optimum team set ups is what matters for tiering, do you think Marvel 2 Strider would be at his placement without doom rocks? He’d still be very damn good but he wouldn’t be occupying a spot that close to the 4 plus IM.
In MvC3 Wolverine had it taken into account that he had either Tron or Akuma since without them zoning him was infinitely more effective, but that was taken into account when people rated him for vanilla.
@Kjunk:
I just found out how to set up Bon voyage facing any direction I want. Use 2C+summon vajra, S xx 2147B, 236C, and you can switch sides as long as they aren’t entirely cornered.
