I dunno, IM’s strength is hi midrange tools, I actually can’t come up with a character that really specializes in that, so I’m not sure he’s replacing anybody. He’s a new style, here to fuck with you…
True, he needs help getting close, but he’s really good at covering assists (it’s why I pack Drones), so this is easily remedied (like Viper’s AA issue in vanilla), so it doesn’t matter much. And when he does get close, he has one of the very best up close mixups in the game. I might eventually do a vid of all the ways to open fools up with Nova in the future.
I always said Iron Man was MVC3’s Vega/Claw so we’ll see if he ends up more that way in Ultimate. Being able to move in and out and pester people with huge disjointed normals and adjust his spacing at will.
Sweet merciful Curry flavored Jesus, those nova vid’s made me moist.
I think people called it Before UMVC3 came out. Nova’s set for high tier. I refuse to use him because he’s bland as hell though.
Had no clue FlyingVe=yjhvidst2
Dude took a jill combo That I spent like years in the lab with, not only BEAT my damage, but was able to do it with other characters as well.
( I did it with chun-Li+Jill).
Everyone else was all like, “he just rushes you, so boring and linear”. You can be as linear as you want, it don’t matter if you can’t do fuck all to stop it.
If I live to far from places to get to tournaments, at least I can tell people how to play their character right…
Another big hit was the nerf of EM Disrupter as an assist. I’m not nearly as impressed with him as I was in Vanilla for obvious reasons. Gravity pullpush stuff is cute but a bunch of characters (like, the actual good ones) don’t care about it.
That’s a good point too, there wasn’t really one with a tridash in Vanilla I guess. Dante and Sword Ammy are the closest that come to mind in terms of their range and priority in the neutral game. Maybe some aspects of Trish?
I say Magneto because while his normals didn’t have the same range that Tony’s do, Magneto’s movement effectively added some extra reach to him and let him put them wherever he wanted.
I think IM is poised to do well because his toolset is really coming together. He now has a good close-game to go with his abusive long range hit-convertible normals. He can quickly high/low. He can cross-up. He can turn any throw into a dead character (with X-Factor, or still respectable big damage combos into DHCs without). He has a corner game against incoming characters similar to Vanilla Mags. He has another option for setting up his own approaches with special cancelable :d::h:. And he still does Vanilla levels of damage with combos.
He’s just going to remain harder to play than most because he doesn’t ABCS.
Most embarrassing thing in the world: playing doom and trying to do a back throw on someone in front of you on the ground and coming out with chain hidden missiles.
I’m having a hard time envisioning why Strider should remain top tier in the long run. Lots of people are running him at the moment, but no one is really blowing up everything with him or exposing entire teams or what have you. In fact, even in the hands of a great player he is getting destroyed in seconds just as often as he is doing something useful.
I know that he has about a zillion options and mixups and a good assist but UMvC3 just has way too much damage going on (X-Factor and otherwise). Strider’s health is a huge liability. So much so that I feel he really shouldn’t be used as an anchor - he is better served in the second slot. Ouroborous are proving to not be very scary in this game.
Don’t get me wrong - he is a solid character and has some great tools, but he isn’t top tier - not in the UMvC3 environment. He is high tier (very strong, but at least one major drawback). People keep talking about him like he is unstoppable, but he is actually one of the most “stoppable” characters of the entire cast thanks to his health alone.
On a somewhat related but not really note - characters who win the meter game are worth so much more in this game. Watching the Super Arcade Dojo stream - both Combofiend and Floe starting with Nemesis on point proved to be a huge factor in their game. Not only is he a huge battery, but he soaks up tons of damage before dying. Nine times out of ten when Nemesis finally went down, the Nemesis player had 3 or 4 bars stocked and their opponent had 0 or 1 (because they had to spend them all to kill Nemesis). Its a lose-lose situation for people facing this kind of strategy because you want to save meter to kill the “good” characters, but because it is hard to snap Nemesis out when he is zoning correctly you have to blow your stuff early to get rid of him. I think this type of approach is going to define most of the early metagame for Ultimate.
Had no clue Viscant posted on this site. That’s pretty neat
Anyway, serious question. Vergil seems like your kind of mixup/ambiguous left/right kind of character. Have you considered using him? Rapid Slash assist is basically a beam for Wesker, and they both help each other extend combos. It won’t work if you plan on a Phoenix team, but he’s an excellent teammate for Wesker otherwise.
Nova also seems like a good teammate, with his overhead assist. More than the assist, Nova can benefit from Wesker’s assist when Nova is on point. If I’m understanding your posts correctly, you’re considering Spencer. Nova/Spencer/Wesker actually works perfectly. I might just have to steal that team I mean, one hit from Nova with that team is a kill. Since Wesker’s assist hits low, and Spencer’s assist allows Nova to get a crumple late in the combo. So from any hit that’s around midscreen, Nova gets a kill, because he can use the crumple to set up his Javelin glitch, and Wesker for the unblockable.
This is the same week one or week 2 arguments people had about Zero before he started running the game. Just because he isn’t as easy to use as Wolverine and has less health doesn’t mean he needs more than 750k health. Especially with only a week into the game. What makes you think Strider is the type of character that only takes a week to figure out? Lots of people run Viper and Zero also but only the select few show how stupid cheap they really are.
If health was really that much of an issue than 4 of the 6 top tiers in Vanilla wouldn’t consist of characters with less than 900k health. Health isn’t so much of a big deal as it is how hard you are to actually hit and how easily you can open people up. If you think Strider is going to be a character that’s going to be easy to land a clean hit on in the future…well we all know how Zero went. The guy you can never land a clean hit on and only loses to characters that never actually go anywhere near him.
The Nemesis stuff is good for right now but to me it just sounds like more February Sentinel stuff. I’d like to see more technology out of him instead of just seeing them being damage/meter soaks from what I saw in vids. When people get confortable resetting the shit out of his big ass hit boxes to save meter instead of blowing them all when they learn the 2 or 3 things you’ll ever need to know to beat a character like him in a matchup…things will get a lot harder for Nemmy I’m sure. I won’t be surprised if a few months from now he ends up being the guy people run in the back for assists or later on just stop picking all together.
For some reason I have a feeling Nem’s not going to fall as far as you say. Maybe mid-mid at the lowest. Hard to tell this early, of course There’s a ten-minute video of potentially-viable combos with him that net sometimes up to 800k+ (I’m sure you’ve seen it), though by viability, that could just mean he has very few ways to open people up and that’s all that’s really viable in his perspective. With damage like that, it had better be hard for him to open someone up. Still, I have faith that his kara’d grabs and the like will make him at least a little scary, despite him having limited options/no mixup. Hopefully Floe and Combo take him farther (they used a little bit of that on Saturday) and beyond a meter sponge. Combo especially.
Yeah damage is nice but tools is more important before the damage and Nemesis just seems like more gimped tool character with big health stuff that will run for a bit and then die down. I don’t see him being a top tier of the game pretty much ever. Might end up being a better version of Sentinel on point but that’s a big might. Sentinel’s point game with assists is a bit underrated but at this point there’s too many characters cheaper than both Sentinel and Nemesis for that to really matter. Having a big hit box in this game in general is putting yourself at a big disadvantage any way.
I’m not really saying he’s gonna fall to C tier/butt tier but he’s not going to be this like Wesker/Zero/Dante worthy character running tourneys. He’s just too big of a hit box and just won’t have the technologies or general cheap factor to sustain himself once the other characters get way cheaper than him and expose his big hit box all day. Once people get comfortable resetting him before killing him to keep their meters up, it’s a wrap for him IMO as far as regularly being seen in tourneys outside of his assist.
Nemesis is worth something now…but to me he looks like Vanilla She Hulk but slower with a bigger hit box and a big more of a range game. Which is arguably garbage as far as getting him into a top tier spot later on.
PR Rog and Flash Metroid share who they think is top tier in UMVC3
Main things from the video:
• Flash Metroid’s top tier characters: Wesker, Vergil and Spencer.
• PR Balrog’s top tier characters: Wesker, Vergil and Dante.
• Flash Metroid added that Iron Fist is good, but it’s going to take time to learn him. Wolverine is still top 5 and he feels Hsien-Ko is the worst character in the game.
• PR Balrog also feels Wolverine is still the same, and that Tron Bonne will drop off.
Yeah, the unblockable is nice, but then you don’t have an assist to cover Nova’s weakness, which will make it hard to set that up in the first place. Its why I prefer assists like Sentinel, it fixes the neutral issue, and the unblockable is replaced with a lockdown into nigh-unblockable mixup. Not to mention getting the unblockable to hit correctly meaty is alot harder than it looks.
This is my opinion, and alot of non Sentinel assists will work, but I’ve been playing with this glitch for a while (I invented it after all), and the unblockable is not worth the sacrifice to the rest of his game.
…If only we had a lockdown assist that hit low…
Marvel, the only game where its good when you break everything you touch.
