ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

I only just got the game Friday, but I have a feeling tiering this game is going to take a long time. An upper crust tier will likely emerge as truly oppresive things are found, but we have a game here with 50 characters, 20+(30?) of which are capable of doing top-tier things. Capcom did a great job with the balance and it’s making us tier-freaks’ heads spin. Normally I’m all about playing everyone and learning everyone and dabbling in what’s out there. But oddly enough I’ve taken a very exclusive path, came up with a team, and am not all that interested in much else. It involves Dr. Strange and I find him to be a FUCKING BLAST! I really hope he ends up B or better, because even though I’m down to play what’s fun and not just use what’s on the top of a list, I also don’t want to be a C-tier hero either. At least I know for sure Doom is up there.

PS.

LOL!!!

That and its like how many people are going to get hit from that far with a dash air h confirm m h . If one L is in there that combo will not work . Ill take 680-740k then dhc then drop a combo

and those would be what exactly? please don’t say teleport lol

all 3 versions of teleport can be thrown on reaction if the opponent stays on the ground.

Can you explain WHY you think Nova is one of the best characters in the game?

I am playing him a lot and absolutely love the character, but saying he is one of the best in the game is going a long way. I would say Viper, Strider, Doom, Dormammu, Zero, Wesker, and Spencer are above him. There may be others as well. I was ranking him as B+ because I see a few limitations in his game that force him out of the top 5.

BTW…TY for the video.

I really enjoy playing Nova and think he’s good, but I don’t quite see where he’d be among the best. His neutral game isn’t the unblockable terror or unstoppable hitboxes that some characters boast.

High damage is nice too but that’s not hard to come by. And I understand he has great resets, but that requires you to take the advantage in the first place.

Off topic, but I just wanted to point out that Cyclops is pretty much top tier one on one. Invincible full-screen dragon punch into super to make it safe/damaging? Everything combos into super? Link multiple supers easily? Fast startup on full screen supers? Build meter for free with safe runaway? Good chip? Mixup with double jumps? There’s pretty much nothing wrong with him except he doesn’t make use of assists to the point that the God Tier do.

Damn, my scrubby arse is already hitting 970K with firebrand on point, damage isn’t an issue for him. He just needs to not get hit. >.>

Loops not hard man. It’s one of his most consistent BnB’s on most of the cast. Only really small characters force you to change the timing up a bit.

Not a single Nova player is going to think about hitting any light attack other then j.L. And even with one L in there that combo will work. You don’t have to confirm off of j.H, but you can easily setup the combo from several other options. By the way, people do get hit by j.H. Especially cross-up ones.

Strider and Firebrand are definitely problems…

GRAKH GRIKKITY GRAKHLE

(I WELCOME OUR NEW WINGED OVERLORD bows)

What’s Vergils way in free? Rapidslash devil trigger? Cause you can get hit during that too. Or swords then teleport?

Wow I thought I was nice for getting 600k.

You gotta pick up Rocket Raccoon. He’s really easy to get damage with I just have bad execution and can’t do it yet :frowning:

I use my entire team in the combo, the fact that Bon voyage lets you dry tag into high damage characters is complete BS.

It’s hard but consistent. People are too lazy.

You get one hit before the 5B(or 2B), so that gives you 3 hits before the launcher. That’s plenty of time to confirm, though admittedly, that will reduce the damage to slightly below 800k, but when you list damage you don’t list it for all possible hitconfirms, just the best one.

Don’t get me wrong, in a month, I’m not sure he will be. Right now he’s easily S. Here’s my breakdown (short and sweet). I haven’t revealed all my tech just yet.

Pros:
1)Great normals
2)Can hitsconfirm into full combo from any height
3)Amazing Damage
4)Unescapable resets (several)
5)Second Fastest Tri-jump behind Iron Man (yes I’m serious)
6)Incredibly strong mixup (amazing tri-jump, 2 crossups, standing overhead)
7)Armor
8)Great Hypers (Beam, Damag, and Punish)
9)Energy Javelin is borderline broken
10)Aegis Reflector shuts some characters down, hard
11)On the right team, meterless, full kills.
12) 3 Red Specials shut down zoning
13) 3 Red gives you double Aegis
14)Great Abare

Cons:
1)Unsafe moves (remedied with assists
2)No true projectile.
3)Average box dash

this post was interesting

FYI in umvc3, all teleports might as well be throw safe, because you now you can tech throws even in recovery of any move. the real answer to beating strider TP is

L/M=anti air
H=jump on reaction and punish or dash under

Yea Novas box dash J.H is pretty tricky at times especially with certain assists really easy cross up his forward air dash is deceptively good.

Actually, not many characters are doing 800k Solo midscreen, so that is really huge damage, he does like 820 in the corner, which is Doom esque.

sword super then teleport seems incredibly safe not to mention it can be a VERY fast mixup. Also, his durability on those swords is kind of ridiculous since he can move with them and they can nullify supers. As long as he teleports and gets next to you, those rotating swords will beat a shit ton of things from interacting with it then he gets a huge ass combo. What I’ve noticed is that people are doing swords on hit, delay as long as possible, combo late. This allows vergil to get a hit, big combo after the swords and the big combo will build him some bar which is honestly quite broken.

vergil can easily call a good full screen assist, activate sword super, teleport in and he’s in there. There is nothing like that for strider. Even his level 3 orbs don’t have that much vertical\horizontal range where the machines make contact. Its actually possible for strider to get combo-ed when his level 3 is out there. incredibly hard to hit vergil out of his spinning sword super.

ahh new rule I was not aware of.

while it may tech throws, nothing is stopping the opponent from stuffing strider early in the air with a normal. He can’t throw immediately because of his recovery. Either way, you can still punish it for free and this is actually more of a problem really for strider. If throwing was the only counter, not every character could punish him but just throwing jumping normals out there when he teleports, every character in the game is going to get a jumping series, land, ground series, s, air combo on him.

you can’t punish all the teleports obviously with every character but if you’re grounded, strider should eat life for randomly teleporting unless someone has a trick where you can block during your recovery out of the teleport. His life is so low that he would just honestly die in 1 hit and is teleporting randomly to get in now worth it?

Nice to hear your on the Firebrand wagon Chrisis!
