strange has the 1 fast ass projectile, it looks like a flying rounded triangle. That move is capable of beating a doom beam for free to gauge its durability. While it has really some recovery, its incredibly fast for its durability points. The eye of agamoto also beats 2 hard doom beams, as long as its active eye of agamoto will pretty much destroy whatever is on the screen. Haven’t tested physical bullets against strange yet though.
even though his normals are ass, they seem to have HUGE hit boxes on them. I was trying to dive kick his face in the other day and his s.jab beat some of dive kick attempts.
he can rush down but only on point and he needs a team @ that to function. Try playing strange\doom rocks or strange\drones, you literally get to poke+doom, cancel laggy projectiles, teleport, laggy projectiles crossup. doom will cover your lag too and dr.strange’s durability is so good, he doesn’t need to bank on a assist that has high durability. Just one that lets him throw his shit.
he kind of reminds me of ruby heart from mvc2. Even though she didn’t have any mobility tools, her specials\supers were just ridiculous and she was top15 in the entire game. Eventually, strange will be able to really shit on quite a few characters pretty clean. Those zoning options are beyond ridiculous and some characters just don’t have any tools to deal with it. I honestly don’t know how wolvy\x23 would fight strange when he is in a flat out zoning mode and he’s layering projectiles one after the other.
edit: I’m not sure if the flight mode, teleport glitch is back but if it is, it makes stranges rush down game that much better. He has the fastest teleport in the game iirc and his projectiles allow that mixup to happen.
Yeah we always go back and forth any ways cuz flying always has good points himself so it’s nice to go back and forth and learn from also. I just think he like many others could see a lot more in Strange just by messing around with him. Standard SRK back and forth trying to get others to see what or what not is really there etc.
Oh and yeah Strange’s s.L is basically a more disjointed version of Magneto’s s.L that will stuff Wolverine’s dive kick clean.
She’s top tier if she gets in your face and has crazy air throw range for a more ground based character. It remains to be seen of the focus on putting shit all over the screen is going to be hindrance for her. Felicia players are going to have to work to grind their way in even in Ultimate even with the air delta kick bonus. Call assist + cat crawl may be more important to her success now especially since Justin Wong has been showing how it acts like a ghetto berserker slash.
That all changes if you place her as anchor but I haven’t seen anyone really do her justice with the XF3 outside of my brother. Most Felicia players like the point grind with her and for whatever reason Fecal Penance almost never turns on XF with Felicia even though he has her as anchor which is a head scratcher.
Ghost rider is very good if they don’t have lot of good get in options or things from super jump height. I’ve seen people mention that he has j.H but it’s not chainable (lol) to any of his other normals in the air and he doesn’t have any air specials. So you basically just jump up and smack them once with the chain… not much deterrence. That’s why I see him being ran with Jam session, since it atleast covers that area and pushes them out to full screen, but he can’t really do anything off of it. Guess you just gotta wait for them to land and have a spire waiting for them. He’s super good if they stay on the ground though.
Also of note, it’s always Ghost Rider’s birthday. You just can’t call assists vs him.
DJ, I know it’s only a week of practice but I’ve been running my Ghost / Strange / Dante team at the tournament / 4 gatherings I’ve been to since the game came out, so I atleast think I have a little idea of what he can do. Most of the stuff I’ve mentioned is what I’ve found with the character and in the end it boiled down to get space, do M rings, look for SoV openings, if they get close do normals / Mystic sword L to push them out. He’s almost not flexible enough of a character to really delve all that deep. Just do Eye of agamatto if you have room to shield you, impact palm it and teleport in behind it when it gets close, or use it to cover while you do rings / other zoning. If they’re in the corner, chip them and force them to come to you. His flight mode is slooooooow… so it’s almost impossible to do any substantial mixup without a higher level x factor or an assist. But he’s also been incredibly effective at assassinating characters with SoV > XF and then doing a teleport mixup on an incoming character. He feels like vanilla phoenix in that regard and it’s what I see him being good at later in the game’s life wit
disagree on most people thinking vergil not requiring tech. People are still working out a solid bnb for him since his bigger combo’s are character specific (or at least seem that).
Also no one is even using his sword formations yet in setups which most definately have use. His forward one can be shot at will leaving you at frame advantage, his sword storm creates several seconds of mixup opportunity that can be setup, and most people don’t have combo’s except into super off his 3H which he can do with specific assists.
Also his neutral game will get stronger as time passes as people learn to use his normals better.
Lots of times you could’ve died to Vergil but haven’t, that will change.
He’s like Dante in vanilla. He was good in the beginning then he got hella scary in the later game except for a few matchups.
The only thing that I see that’s really easy mode about Vergil like I said is placing him as anchor where it’s pretty much guaranteed you’re going to kill one or 2 people without much issue but that goes with a lot of characters you can just throw as anchor. His issues with not being able to cancel normals on whiff and having unsafe block strings are fixed when you turn on Devil Trigger. He can then cancel normals on whiff and his block strings become safe once he enters DT. Which could also help people figure out his point game better later on as well. Land one combo with the help of an assist and then build meter for DT and then scrape them up once you have your safer block strings.
Yeah Ghost Rider just seems to be the type of character that’s designed to shut down everything that was top tier in Vanilla from a certain range. The fact that his chain pretty much shuts down assists from a range means he’s not really going to be the type of character that regularly gets the whole world off the max range chains or he would just be insane.
As far as Strange…his flight mode is basically useless from what I feel outside of corner mix ups. He just has it so he can buy time if needed while calling assists. You can’t block during flight any ways so that even more so limits the reason you’ll want to fly with strange unless you have graces backing you up. He can’t do the Vanilla Phoenix style flight while airborne to do instant overhead stuff either.
The main problem with Strange as anchor is that he has to kill your first character first and without assist I just don’t see him buying the time he needs to set up stuff like that regularly in the long haul like Dark Phoenix was able to. Once people start running to the corner to burn you out you’re really going to have to improvise especially without having much of a high/low or assists.
XF2 + assist I can see Strange really doing work. XF3 is just an easier gimmick that will work until it doesn’t work IMO.
as one of the better strider players towards the end of mvc2, this has been my main character in mvc3. ninja 4 life!!!
strider is really pretty good in this game. He has the best level 3 in the game. He has 3 different dive kicks. His combos right now are pretty lacking but I’ve managed to come up with some stronger ones. God like priority in terms of pokes. Projectiles could be better but bomb is fantastic. That short hop double jump gave him a god like mixup game. god like assist.
striders weakness is that he needs a team again like he did in mvc2. This is not a character that can fight solo against any other team. He needs the help no questions asked.
I think characters like virgil are better because of how virgil is so dominant @ level 1. He can activate the new “orbs” and get some chunky fucking damage off random teleport from that super. Strider doesn’t have any tool that lets him magically get in there for free, @ the cost of 1 meter, nor could he do that much damage on point. Not to mention that virgil has weapon priority too and more so than strider.
once the game starts to round out again and people start running stronger teams, I believe strider will be middle top tier or bottom top tier.
out the gate, I would argue that dormamu, maybe dark phoenix again, virgil, doom, and wesker are all better than strider right now. I think as more technology is figured out with the other characters, his tier positioning will continue to move down in the top tier group. I see firebrand, rocket racoon, and ghost rider possibly moving above strider but time will tell.
strider apparently has some fucked ass matchups. strange\hawkeye have 1f starting supers after the flash and these supers are so fast that they can punish jabs on reaction. So if these characters are completely loaded on bar, strider isn’t allowed to hit a button to bait. He only has movement and god forbid if one of these damn supers hit his frail ninja ass.
I don’t know…it doesn’t sound like anything different from what Zero already loses to now. I think Strider is the version of Zero that can get in at will. For now Zero is stronger once he gets in than Strider but with 750k health I think Capcom did a pretty good job making sure if Strider wants to get in he pretty much can just choose to do that. He has his own assists for covering his teleport for such purposes and the opponent has to preemptievely chicken block or XF guard cancel his his teleport dive kick or that’s basically a free get in. Most higher tier characters with air dash or flight have zoning tools to deal with Zero’s run in offense but Strider has tools that essentially could make those characters lose their lives for trying the same thing that normally gives Zero issues. If you’re caught air dashing or flying or doing anything that isn’t blocking from a range and he goes for teleport kick…huge damage into reset or dead character.
That’s like the one thing Zero can’t do. He has to make the grind before he can get cheap. The only two tools Zero has that allow him to just bulldog his way in involve turning on sogenmu or burning his level 3. Strider shouldn’t need meters to just get the fuck in on much anyone.
I was planning use Strider as an anchor on my Viper team. Viper loves that assist, as does Iron Man. On that team, he should always have bar for an uroburos activation to clean house, but I haven’t really learned much strider yet.
