ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

dormammu/doom = best friends?

this team was ultra lame in the early days of mvc3 but that sorta died out because of dat rushdown.

but now since these two got super buffed, it seems much lamer and scarier than before.

Than I would be more worried about Rocket’s approach option than his options getting damage.

Yeah it’s kinda funny how Strider on point and his assist are pretty much designed to shut down the lame out that UMVC3 is trying to present. It’s good that they thought about putting in things that counter the counter instead of just changing things so Ghost Rider and Hawkeye win all matchups.

I know I’m probably alone with this comment, but I really don’t understand why akuma has 750k health. A character with that low health is supposed to have ridiculous options up the ass. Akuma has none of that. Dude is pretty slow and doesn’t have anything really hard to block. Not to mention that he ate pretty much nothing but nerfs, and demon flip in the air surprisingly isn’t that helpful. Not to mention his assist lost priority and the soft knockdown. Why does he have so little health again. Not to mention how horribly unsafe all his moves are still, and the fact that they specifically nerfed his xfactor time over most other characters, leaves him pretty shitty in comparison to ryu.

Dormammu doesn’t need friends.

I still feel like he has what it takes to be mostly dominant whether on point or as anchor.

The air demon flip should give him stuff that’s harder to block now. He should be able to do double overheads now that he can do it in the air making him much more scary in the close range and possibly giving him more mix up options after the air throws. Air XF is an indirect huge buff to him also.

Air demon flip is a huge buff, it give him a psuedo air dash and increases his offensive options significantly. The nerfs to Tatsu assist isn’t that big, it’s still one of the best mixup tools in this game, just that you don’t have all the time in the world to hit confirm off it and it’s easier to hit the assist now if you use it like a Commando/Psylocke assist. He still has the best wavedash in this game (so I don’t see why he’s slow) and he still has terrific damage output without being too executional heavy, which is more important than ever in this game.

Demon flip is not safe throughout the entire thing though, so it’s really not that good. Not to mention, when he does demonflip he jumps up a little giving you time to look for the overhead. His air fireballs are also much more unsafe than ryus, and there are more solid characters that I feel also take better control of air xfactor. I just don’t think he has anything that warrants such low health. I mean he has the same health as STRIDER, so if he gets hit by anything from any angle, he’s pretty much dead. Strider probably has a better assist, better keepaway, better rushdown, and xfactor capabilties than akuma probably. Akuma obviously deals a boatload of damage, but it’s pretty hard to actually land a hit now with the reduced priority on tatsu. Your only chance is his grab because its so godlike. Dude honestly needs 900k health.

It’s not that much of a buff as it seems. He does not have the fastest wave dash in the game either. It’s more like a double jump than an air dash if anything. I guess you’re referring to the day one akuma combos that everyone uses still. Akuma has real man’s combos that do more damage but actually require some execution.

Akuma’s assist is still GDLK.

Ahh, so Eye of Agamotto nullifies beams if it comes into contact with one? That dies sound like a very helpful tool in helping him set up, provided you get the chance to pit it out there, of course.

As for Zero and Strider, if Strider is superior at getting in, doesn’t Zero have better laming options with Buster? Not a zoner obviously, but can he keep himself a little safer than Mr. Hiryu with it?

I’m trying Rocket Raccoon/Hawkeye/Firebrand now, seems like it’s super fucking obnoxious to play against lol

There’s too many viable characters this time around for all kinds of play-styles for us to see the reincarnation of best friends.

Wolvie - Akuma were too unstoppable with such easy execution and they’re best competition probably required half a brain unlike them.

Most the new cast has great assists, the increase of good assists on characters that are good on point makes the game better.

well, neither does wesker.

Yeah X-23 definitely has what I would consider the best wave dash in the game. It’s stupid fast and travels her even faster if you plink it (not that it’s necessary).

One thing that is clearly underrated about Akuma is his walk speed. UMVC3 Akuma has forward walk speed that’s probably faster than most of the characters in SFIV. Allows him to set up really nice throw games and get into tatsu/dive kick cross range easily if he can keep people grounded long enough. It’s definitely faster than most of the character’s walk speeds with UMVC3 also.

I mean I don’t play Akuma enough to understand exactly what got nerfed but, from what I messed around with in training mode his air tatsu still beats stuff like Wolverine’s dive kick pretty clean (which also might be due to the nerfed hit box on wolvie dive). Akuma sitting on meters is still one of the hardest things in the game to land a clean hit on without worrying about dying so he would have really had to get some stuff nerfed hard to warrant anything more than 750k health. Akuma is not really a character that needs health IMO seeing how being stocked with meters your options to hit him become really around guessing. Maybe he isn’t opening people up much easier than he was in Vanilla yet but he surely is the same hard as hell to hit character that does a boat load of damage in XF or if he hits you in the corner. Plus has many tools for keeping people off of him that others don’t like an invincible DP into safe air beam super, beam supers and even a DP super.

  1. I agree that he doesn’t have quit enough BS to justify such a low health
  2. The difference between his old health and his current health is insignificant.
  3. As already mentioned his assist is still godlike.
  4. Air Demon Flip makes comboing off of his air throws consistent and piss easy.
  5. I don’t know what you’re smoking but his normals are among the safest in the game (realistically only cr. H is punishable).
  6. So are most of his special moves
  7. IMO he also has one of the better standing overheads in the game.
  8. Solid dive kick.
  9. Awesome taunt.
  10. ?
  11. Profit!!!
  1. It always was consistent if you knew what you were doing
  2. I never said his normals… fireballs/air fireballs… tatsu is very unsafe if you know shit about the character and how to punish it… srk is w/e… demon flip is very easy to punish
    7)ok
  3. nah
  4. ok esp with the alt costume
  5. !
  6. ok!

I was messing around in training mode and doing stuff like j.M into air demon flip creates some nasty double overhead, fake overhead low and cross up stuff similar to Strider.

I personally think Strider and Iron Fist have the best wavedashes. Three wavedashes = fully zoomed-out screen. But that’s just an opinion.

As for the Strange haters, not to come across as rude, but please try to learn him before you write him off as bad. Hyper XFC isn’t the only thing he can do. His solo Bnb has the highest damage output of any teleporter except Vergil, at 800k for an easy mode combo. He can go even higher with more meter and creativity. Also, it’s worth note that Vergil’s Bnb takes two meter, while Strange’s uses one and builds almost two.

To dispel any rumors, Strange’s teleport is only one frame faster than Wesker’s. If it is the fastest teleport in the game, it’s by one frame, which is hardly notable. His teleport isn’t really that good either, since he has to dash after it to get in Bnb range on everyone not named Sentinel. Does this matter? No.

Strange’s are so few and far between that I can’t tell you how many messages I’ve gotten that go like this: “Nice Strange, first I’ve ever played” or something along those lines. At least a half a dozen in the last two days. Same thing with Rocky, it’s amazing what an execution barrier can do to change the popularity of a character. Nobody really knows what Strange does. DevilJin, I know you do, but I ask everyone else: What does Strange do? Think about it. Simple question, what does Strange do? Got your answer?

You probably said zone. Wrong! Truth is, I don’t even know what he’s supposed to do. All I know is my Strange uses projectiles to buy time to mix you up with teleports. I think it’s safe to say that’s what they all do right now. I can tell you right now, when more people start seriously figuring out Strange, you will all realize the error of your ways. He can kill your character at will at any time if A. He grabs you, or B. You aren’t blocking, and he has XF. With a DHC, any hit is also a dead character. He has two excellent anti-air options, L Mystic Sword and Jumping MMH xx Impact Palm, both of which lead to full combos.

Dat feel when your 6th Lord opponent, Wesker, snaps in your Strange immediately every match, only to be killed instantly every match. I love this game.

No, really, why do you snap in your death?

Felicia/Frank West is already the new Wolverine/Akuma, people are just whining too much about Wesker and Vergil to see it. They’ll see the power of that pair soon once J Wong decides to play his real team.

i think vergils wavedash is better than strider. that thing is ultra fast
