How do you feel about Strider as an anchor and a character in general? I love his assist with Viper Seismo zoning
But, I’m finding him to be a bit Phoenix-like in the sense that he needs lots of meter towards the end and he can be a crap-shoot, all it takes is a tiny mistake and it’s over for him regardless if you opponent has x-factor or not. If you get hit with Ouroboros activated, the orbs just go through the opponent, WTF!?
I feel that once he’s optimized Strider mainly needs meter for damage as he can do any damn thing he wants in the neutral game without it. I’m still learning to understand his properties, but needless to say I feel he will end up very strong when people start to understand him, like firebrand aside from health and damage he pretty much has everything in his favor.
I tried out Jin’s team of Rider, Tasky and Wesker (And mixed it up with Felicia) and holy shit is it effective. Full screen hit confirms off instant overheads are amazing.
Also, Nova’s 2C is really good, it has an absolutely stupid hitbox. Nova is at at least A tier. Right now I think he’s S, but I don’t know if he will stay there as other characters get fleshed out and get better.
I am in agreement. I think Nova is pretty well balanced also. I think he will be able to comfortably sit at A-tier this whole games life span honestly, but if some of the other characters develop game changing tech (and he doesn’t), the lowest I see him going is B++
I think there are a lot of directions you can go with Nova, which alone will keep him afloat at A/B+. Spacing that can turn into rushdown, and lots of ways to do it. I look forward to what Yipes is able to do with him.
His c.M is decent (it’s no Hawkeye slide still) and while he has a nice mid-range punishment game with his armored rushes and his slide, I find that his offense is quite easy to react to, my friend has a pretty sick Nova, but I usually can block his pressure and easily react to any low attacks he throws out. He doesn’t use a low assist so most of the time his damage with Nova comes from an air throw/throw resets, whiff punishing, etc.
Doctor Strange doesn’t really remind me of Akuma much at all. There’s quite a lot of Dorm/Super Skrull style characters with XF that pretty much shut down your ability to call assists and all of that hurp durp anchor stuff. Doctor Strange is on like the lower end of hurp durp when it comes to that since like Phoenix, he can’t cross you up in the corner so people will just run to the corner if they see he’s in a position where he’s definitely going to burn XF. He can only really high/low you if you’re in the corner with not terribly difficult to read high/low stuff with flight and will most likely need an assist to keep you there long enough to set it up.
None of his assists are nearly as good as Akuma tatsu either. They’re all decent but they all have slow start up that like a strong mid to close range character like Dante or Wesker is not going to be totally blowing up people with. The only one that will most likely be helpful for offense to some regularity is the eye of agomotto since it can lock them down for ever and is technically also a projectile. It still has slow start up though and doesn’t really cover much range. The other 2 assists generally have issues where you need another stronger assist complimenting that assist.
Dr.Strange will definitely require assists to keep people locked down long enough to set up mix ups that don’t involve grace. They’ll also give him the extra firepower he needs to set up yellow graces which are probably the biggest key to his offense. Getting 3 yellow graces on screen basically gives you access to a completely unavoidable (outside of the corner) wolverine+tatsu style mix up. Even if they super jump to the top of the screen you can 50/50 cross and if they block the wrong way you get full combo since they stay in a full juggle state until they hit the ground. Durping out in XF I don’t see Dr. Strange regularly getting the space he needs to set up the graces and people will know to run to the corner to burn out his XF.
The best aspect of Dr.Strange is to use his projectiles + assists to set up full screen unavoidable 50/50’swith yellow graces no matter where you are on the screen (outside of running to the corner which he’ll still have an assist to lock you down for flight based high/low or throw). That’s fucking cheap and if anyone finds a way to make that a regular ability of a character that is basically a counter zoner…it could get real nasty. It’s just the process to do it will take work and you probably won’t see that happen regularly in tourneys for a while. For now though you’ll most likely just see random anchor Strange whoring his alright assist and then pulling a fast one on people who don’t know to just run to the corner to limit his mix up when he comes out as anchor.
To me he seems like Zero with less of an emphasis on TOD’s and more on meter builing. The trade off being that he can’t be lamed out and every character will have to deal with him every single second of the match until he finally dies. Which could attribute to him getting blown up early but when people learn to keep him on the screen and force you to deal with him all the time without dying…shit will most likely get real with him.
Just the fact that Nova can force you into a high/low mix-up at the end of every combo that starts ~mid screen its ridiculous with his energy javelin reset. He can get to 450-500k with no meter and then reset and kill any character in the game. I think Nova will stay High tier for a long time in this game especially with the right assists.
Also, Firebrand unblockable set ups are being slept on. He can get a fully charged swoop out of a combo in the corner with sent drones. It’s too cheap.
But I thought Zero isn’t lamed out easily anyway. Or do you mean that Strider is harder to lame out?
I find it pretty crazy that Javelin is an overhead, though it makes sense aesthetically. I though it was just going to be a keepout tool until I found that out. You’re doing some nasty-looking stuff.
Grace of Haggoth is ass, it takes like 4 seconds to get enough on the screen to get the laser and then more to shoot flames of the faltine. You can get the same effect with his M homing rings for like 90% less effort. I really don’t seeing GoH used in matches outside of the red ones to combo off of impact palm’s stun.
Read a book is insanely fast, full screen, tracking, like 350 damage still comes out if he gets hit bullshit that he can xfactor and kill you off of. In XF2/3 he can easily kill you in 1-2 Books and unlike akuma, there’s literally no where on the screen you can go to escape it. Just have to sit there and slowly approach / wait for XF to wear out, otherwise he can do spell of vashanti and if that doesn’t kill you, DHC to Dante / Zero / Vergil activation and it’s over. So I kind see him as a counter pick to those annoying problem characters like Strider that are impossible to hit but get torn up like wet paper.
As far as assists, I don’t think his assists serve the same puprose as akumas, I just meant that he does have some good assists that people will be using for various things. Eye of Agamatto locks down for longer than any other assist and stays out for a while if you just do it. It’ll be awesome for characters like magneto, dorm, storm, and firebrand who have really scary high low and just need you to hold still for a second so they can do it. Bolts of Ballsack is a full screen double beam that staggers on hit. It’s duckable but it’s high enough that it serves as an anti air like weskers gun shots and also has a soft knockdown effect. Just for the sheer screen control, I think it’s awesome. Shit’s really good with ghost rider.
