It’s not like the iron man changes where he is a completly different character
people try him out see he’s abit different n go fuck this
needs a trench coat tbh

so yeah, does anyone think they should have used vipers trenchcoat alternative costume from sf4 in umvc3?
Great video, but here’s my problem with nova. I feel like someone like mags or storm has, just as much rushdown(if not more), and will do more damage for LESS METER.
4 bars to get frank to level 4 and not even kill wesker is pushing it, and a lvl 3 x factor that needs a bar feels weak as hell. He doesn’t build crazy meter like mags or doom, and he’s not as safe either. The only stuff i’m seeing potential with are his javelin games and his aegis reflector like stuff. I know no one wants to use his red life, but i really feel like you have to because this doesn’t feel jaw dropping.
Yeah, I am kinda surprised that so many people are just dropping him like that. Or do they just see a better character in Nova, etc.? Because Mags has more spacing tools, especially now.
Hers in this game is weird. It’s from a future IP, I think? Or I think I remember Capcom saying it was from a random sketch the designer had lying around. Either way, it makes her kinda look like a sailor. And it gives her an unsightly droop in her pants.
…I am pretty sure Storm/Magneto don’t really have better damage output than Nova at all for less meter. Storm doesn’t really build that much meter, and she doesn’t have amazing output. Magneto got raped by meter, damage, HSD nerfs…he isn’t really much better than Storm/Doom/Nova IMO.
did mags meter gain get a huge nerf? i would definitely be a fan of that.

Viper’s alternative costume should have been Cyclops. Any other opinion is invalid.
Magneto can still pull off 608k meterless fullscreen via Alioune Blast combos (with no corner loops), so damage and swag aren’t the reason (or at least shouldn’t be the reason) that people are dropping him. It’s probably more because people hate change and Nova offers a fresh new character to learn instead of relearning a bunch of stuff with Magneto that they’re gonna feel bitter about since it isn’t as good as his vanilla stuff. His movement literally feels like vanilla Mags under Veil of Mist.
I think he’s still top 10. It’s just that since he’s not lightning fast anymore and Hyper Grav loops got nerfed, he has alot of competitors for his role on a team. Right now, I think Doom does vanilla Magneto’s job better. His new moves definitely have alot of potential but right now all they are is potential. Alot of people are bitching about them, but almost all of the cast has a projectile or wave dash they can use to counter it. They’re godlike for incoming mixups though. His hideous downback airdash nerf actually gives him great mixup options since you can actually use it for an overhead mixup now.
To be honest, I think Mags makes an amazing anchor. XF3 dispells most of his nerfs and if I grab you, you are fucking dead. If you whiff anything and I have 3 meters, you are fucking dead.
Magneto is not better than Storm and probably not Doom (although strictly speaking Doom plays very differently from your tridash bastards) but he’s probably better than Nova. Nova is decent but he has his weaknesses, primary he is definitely more predictable and easy to handle than Magneto.
flash metroid said he found a combo with RR that did 900 k for one bar
not even that you need it for a character with so many mixups and such mobility
Mags certainly builds more meter, and he’s got the lvl 3 to combo into. He can kill nova flat with 3 bars with one combo. Nova cannot do the same, to even mags.
I look at this and see MODOK and Jill lower than Shuma Gorath.
Then I see Spencer higher than Zero and Viper.
Then I see Ghost Rider way up there.

As far as Nova is concerned, I think people will be a lot more willing to spend red life once they see the crazy options that the Gravimetric Pulses have. Near full-screen wall bounce that comes out crazy fast and allows for an easy combo (not to mention the initial hit does over 100,000 damage on its own). The powered up shields can juggle people for a very long time before they dissappear as well. Using red life on Blaster is ironically the worst use as Nova Force already does enough for a “high damage” move without spending life, but I guess it could make for a crazy DHC.
The big issue is that Nova does so well on point or in the second slot, so he is often going to die before ever getting a chance to use his red life as an assist or as a DHC. It is kind of a weird mechanic in that regard. Better to just use red life as you get it on point for Pulses, I think.
What Nova needs is a low that doesn’t suck
In what way is that wrong? Spencer could very well be the best character in the game ATM… it’s like they cut the damage output of every high damage character in this game save Spencer.
The raccoon is good but he seems totally assist dependent at this time. He has godlike mixups once he’s actually in the opponent’s face but it’s quite difficult to get the opponent into those situations in the first place without a good pinning assist just because of how short range his normals are. Also, his moves do so little hitstun it can be difficult to hit confirm with him. And his zoning isn’t very good. He’s really more of a pixie character.
Yeah, the Log Trap and Bear Trap aren’t as good as they initially looked, both on point and as an assist. The Log Trap is actually very easy to get around - it suffers from having some weird hitboxes, making it best used as combo fodder. His hypers are not damaging, and he loses out to most other zoners. Chris, Hawkeye, Taskmaster, Trish…they can all deal with RR without breaking a sweat. He works better as a rushdown machine, but even then you don’t get a lot of bang for your buck. He makes a poor anchor as his one super good tool (level 3) gets one use and then you are left with nothing.
I really wanted the character to be good, but it looks like he will have to settle for average. Has some nice tricks, but so far I don’t think anyone is pulling any truly crazy stuff off with him.
It’s just that Spencer got buffs, but Viper was already way better than him and didn’t really change.
I’m sorry, I may well be wrong as the game develops, but I cannot see him better than Viper, who is pretty much the same as Vanilla.
In fact, Viper may have gotten better because she is now one of the few characters who has really high damage and meter build. Lots of people needed the DHC glitch to TOD.

RR is a great. But I do think he relies on assist becuase without them there is no way you can pressure your opponent. I have to disagree with you on the zoning part though, I mean log traps and oil bombs are pretty effective moves to use, but you need to have excellent spacing management for them to be any good. BUTTTT that doesn’t mean you can out zone zoners though. You can do well against nonzeros with these tactics. I would say RR is in B tier at best, because he needs assists to be feared. Without them he is ok.
as i said before, log needs proper spacing. Bear trap is like a joke trap though, and it usually catches the opponent randomly for me
j.s and f+ h stuff alot more than you think
he isnt a zoning character at all
also the fact that he can make his burrow safe means he can get in from full screen pretty safe n free
