ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

First of all, relax. You’re sounding a bit too angry for someone typing words out on the internet. The scaling limit isn’t that harsh and he can still throw out 800K+ damage combos for 1 bar of meter and building more than he spends. Zero has ALWAYS needed good DHC synergy. What are you talking about? That’s why 80% of Zero players played Zero and Dante together. This isn’t new shit. Previously, with Dante and Zero you had to use about 2 meters to kill pretty much every relevant character and if you needed to you could always spend another one on Million dollars if some guy is playing Thor or something for whatever reason. Now you can put Zero and Vergil on the same thing and do pretty much the same thing, it just costs a little bit more meter. It’s still better than most of the other charactesr in this game can do.

I’m not an execution master but my BnB with Zero does about 845K and uses 1 bar of meter and almost builds two. It would be a kill combo if I knew the DHC extender with Vergil. And he still has lightning loop. WITH Vergil assist. Here:

You have two ways to ToD the cast with the same assist. Pick one.

or this. This combo probably would have done close to 1 million alone if he hadn’t DHC’d and that is not even that hard.

Hearing this makes me so happy. IM is one of my favorite characters, but in vanilla he was too hard/technical for me to be decent with. Now, I’m nearly nailing his fly combos after a short time of practice, and his damage from a simple BnB fly combo is nearly 700k. If I could find an in-depth tutorial on how to do his ROM and jump loop combos (I believe I saw them in the desk combo video), and how to properly combo his smartbombs into special mid screen without them flipping out, he’d be in my main team no doubt. But for now, I’m keeping him in my second.

Firebrand/Trish/Doom(Missles) or Sentinel(Drones) = Most annoying team ever?

Firebrand is pretty damn good. I’ve had to adjust my team to fight him because more and more people are using him. If you don’t have a character or an assist that can bring him down from the top part of the screen, good luck. Chasing him will just leave you open to his grabbing divekick.

Is Tron considered the worst character now?

Hsien-ko and Arthur (especially Arthur) seem pretty decent now. Arthur’s J.S is so good. Did Shuma get any better?

I would put shuma above nova and nova below strange. The fact that shuma’s game revolves around charge moves entirely has to count for something. Inb4 someone says that just makes him bad. He’s actually fairly decent now with the changes. Plus the air dash change was a big buff for him because his air dash is completely shit so it was useless.

It’s funny because you still don’t have to know how to block if you use haggar.

I honestly don’t know jack about Shuma, Firebrand might be up there too, but again, I’d be speaking out of ignorance.

Some viper combos aside, I might even say shuma combos are actually harder than viper ones. . . the real ones atleast. The fact that some of them involve extremely tight links and multiple charge holding while doing jump loops and transitioning from crouching to jumping and air dashing just makes the character pretty aids with combos. He’s also awkward in his neutral game at first. Viper is probably harder though.

IMO Zero didn’t get buffed or nerfed. He is just different now. He is the same in the fact that you have to build a team around him though.

Also, I am not a fan of using two assist in combos. I feel like one of your assist will more than likely be a utility assist, and that assist will help you open the opponent up.

Or you can just pick Drones and get both.

That’s what I do. The point I was making with USUALLY combos in matches only use one assist in it. My drones are often what starts the combo.

Shuma seems a lot better to me; his combo options are definitely better which was one of his main issues, the grab meter thing is actually pretty nice, having a command grab is good, mashable hypers really help him, and I think Mystic Ray assist is going to be of relatively higher value this time. I think he was kinda underrated in the first place, but regardless of that, his buffs are non-trivial.

It’s hard for me to see Arthur as better since none of his projectiles got buffed, and his XF3 stuff is worse. j.:s: helps his combos, but I’m not seeing how he even lands melee hits still so I don’t see it giving him mix-up or anything as a dive kick, and his mobility combined with those normals is way too bad to actually rush anyone in general still. I also don’t see him doing well against a lot of the new characters. What’s his answer to Ghost Rider j.:s: spam? This has to be really bad for Arthur since all he can really do I imagine is pushblock GR to absolute full screen and try to really slowly get chip in-between GR walking back to chain range, but it seems like it would be really hard since a single chain hit from GR has a real chance of converting to a full 600k combo whereas Arthur won’t be getting real damage off anything he does. Hawkeye will just piercing bolt right through Arthur’s game and put him in the same hopeless situation Magneto and Doom do. Arthur loses the grounded projectile war (unless he’s in gold armor in which case Magneto and Doom fly around until it wears off whereas Hawkeye won’t care so much) and will lose horribly to these characters in a close range battle so he ends up with no viable options other than guessing with hypers to beat their stuff which isn’t a sustainable strategy or trying to be super clever with jumping crossbows and fire bottles which leaves way too many holes to just decide you’re sick of firefighting Arthur and want to rush in which he loses to badly (and also loses to Magnetic Shockwave and Gimlet). Wright will easily get all of his evidence behind Maya from fullscreen and then tag out which is not only losing for Arthur but is basically him giving up the game for his whole team. Vergil, Doctor Strange, Rocket Raccoon, and Strider have teleports, and Firebrand can easily come from angles that are hard for Arthur (just like in GnG, right?). He probably matches up pretty well against Iron Fist, Frank West, and Nemesis at least though I wouldn’t take his side against Nova. I mean, maybe people who actually believe in Arthur can explain in some detail, but from my perspective of someone who really wanted to use Arthur but thought he was just way too bad to use in vanilla, I’m not seeing any reason at all to pick him up now. In fact, with the addition of so many good zoning characters and all the other characters formerly on his tier getting better buffs than he did, his relative worth would seem to have declined to me.

Shuma is probably around mid tier now though. Huge upgrade from bottom bottom bottom tier.

How did arthurs xf3 get worse? Arthur got buffed big time because not only has he gained mobility optons wih j.s cancels, but he has better offensive options as well. Anchor arthur is better now because not only do you still have to worry about chip kills, but he can actually open people up with his fast high low that leads to his xf infinite. Not top tier, but he got boosted out of the bottom, imo. Fwiw, I only consider arthur as a xf3 anchor character. Now that he can throw xfc kill, mix up people trying to lame him out, chip kill and still has a good assist he adds much more to a team than before.

I know it’s not exactly realistic to open someone up with j.S of all moves…but opening up with j.H, cr.L or buster only takes off about 100k from these. Getting in as many divekicks as possible early and self OTGing with buster is Zero’s new method of getting damage. Example -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRj8uErHioQ&feature=player_embedded But people still want to do things like 5H->6H->launcher->MMHS->OTG. And I’m not sure how people have forgotten this but…Zero only did around 450k meterless in vanilla without assists. He added in over 300k with the right assists, and he still does that in ultimate (getting a double assist extension is more strict though.) Zero needs a team build around him for big damage without spending a lot of meter. He needed that in vanilla too, but people were satisfied with 800-900k for 2 bars because of how easy it was to build meter in that game (even though Zero could do 1 million for 1 bar on the right team).

Zero’s best friends in ultimate aren’t exactly bad picks either, so I don’t see why it’s so hard to build team synergy for him. Zero/Dante/???, Zero/Vergil/???, Zero/???/Doom, Zero/Strange/???, Zero/???/Sentinel, Zero/???/Strider, the list goes on. You can’t just stick Zero on any team you want anymore, but when put on a Zero team he’s just as strong in ultimate as he was in vanilla

Dunno, if he becomes the “snap that bastard/bitch in” character, it really will be “RUSH DOWN NP.” No assists for a period of time? No way to easily escape like Jean? It’s a bit early to try to see where he’ll stand, but it’s looking like his “biggest weakness” will be too much for him to overcome. Jean had options in her regular form. I’m not seeing very many for Wright. The dude needs good assists if he ever wants to reach Turnabout Mode.

About Zero. I don’t play him, but from what I can tell, even if his damage got nerfed, why does it matter? He still has invincible throw OS that he can now combo off of himself, and he can throw out any special move and convert into a combo.

He **may **not do as much damage in one combo, but it’ll be even more difficult to actually hit him.

You lose your buster when you throw, always have (since TvC even).

He can’t combo off of his throws by himself without x-factor. Throwing causes you to lose your buster charge.

edit:ninja’d

But yeah, hitting Zero is even harder than before. The biggest nerf to Zero imo isn’t anything that was actually done to Zero directly, but rather the existence of stronger zoning characters (hitting Zero is hard, but you can definitely lame him out with certain teams).

Still, I want to try out a more lame oriented Zero team anyway. Zero/???/Morrigan for “sougenmu all DAI” shenanigans.

Wow, a lot of people are sleeping on Ghost Rider. He is ridiculously good. I got a 98% win record with about 55 wins and 1 loss just based on Ghost Rider alone. He needs to be supported by assists though. My team right now is Ghost Rider/Taskmaster/Wesker. Taskmaster’s horizontal arrows are AMAZING with him.
You call Taskmaster, do J. S as an instant overhead, the arrows hit, you land and do sweep into chain rebuttal into death. You can also set up unblockables with Wesker very easily with him, and I imagine the same applies with things like She-Hulk’s torpedo assist.

He reminds me of v-13 from BlazBlue because he can mix up very well from a screen away. He can do an instant overhead into a full combo or he can do a near-full screen sweep into his full combo. I actually think he has top-tier potential.

Firebrand reminds me of Metaknight.

I have a similar mindset, although I use Felicia assist. Although you’ve given me second thoughts on Wesker…

I’ve been sort of mixed on using a horizontal beam or other projectile based asisst (I use Spencer to extend GR’s combos). Would you say overall the idea of mixing up full screen with beam assist is better than snagging fulll damage off of every hit?
