ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

That was more of a joke about how shitty most MvC players are that they wouldn’t lame out this fucking hulking monster slowly hopping on the other side, but eh.

Slipping to A tier. Yes. There were a few people who thought he was S tier during week 1.

Let me clarify, since a couple people thought I was knocking task: I’m merely talking in levels of tech, namely that they plateau quickly. GR seems to lack any tricky options that need “exploration” and instead is going to have to rely primarily on strong fundamentals ( like Taskmaster ) to win in the end. I don’t think the Sent comparison works as well, because he did have room to grow, just no one bothers because he’s ass.

Taskmaster? Dormammu(to an extent)? (Vanilla) Doom? Akuma?

So add zoning to that requirement but really that’s disgustingly obvious. Might as well add in the requirement that the character has to exist in the game, your controller has to function correctly, and you have to actually be alive while attempting to play the game.

Strider is getting way too much hype by non Strider players lol. He’s good but no fucking way he’s on the same level as Wesker, Viper, or Magneto, not even in super theory mode.

^ I think the thing that’s gonna seperate strider from all the “better” characters is that he can be an assist character that also does a decent job as an anchor

dive kick assist is great for characters that can otg and it also helps zone and stop run-away
other than that, he is lacking in a few areas that make a character top tier

It’s a new character in a new game, but we can take all the things we learned in vanilla to make an educated guess on how good or bad a character will be

So what are peoples thoughts on Nova and Iron Fist?

Nova: Being slept on. All around great tools, which make up for his lack of super safe moves. Hits very heavy also.
Iron First:Weak anti-air game and very assist dependent. He needs a dedicated team unless you’re using him just for his great assist.

Twice they did a great job with DS.

Nova: Not super exciting or unique compared to most of the cast but for those that get over/don’t care have no issues seeing how good he is. I love him.
IF = Wesker v0.35b About the only thing I could possibly want from IF that Wesker can’t handle better is a mid range punish hyper.

I feel like Nova is cool as hell, but is just way too unsafe to be considered a top tier character. I believe that in order to make his moves “safe” youd have to use a red-life draining special, which is also unsafe but just pushes the opponent far, or cancel into flight. His damage is good, but considering the unsafeness of all of his moves I’d say nova would be a mid-tier/high mid-tier character.
I feel iron fist is being slept on. His mobility on the ground is unparalleled, his moves are safe, and he has a great assist. His air combat sucks, but he does some options, such as the rising dragon super. I believe that if you couple him with anti-air assists theres no reason he cant run through a team.

The probelm with Iron Fist is that he has no true answer to aeral happy characters besides with the original BFFS(Strider/Doom), and the only character that can assist him with aerial hit confirm is Spencer(slant shot). Not only does he have no answer to aerial characters, he struggles to actually convert those characters into combos without being in throw range.

where would guys place captain america? Personally, I feel like hes high tier, or B±A tier. With the addition of an otg, double jump, and semi invincible cartwheel he has become very well rounded, and a threat anywhere on the screen. Plus, in this game i feel that characters with high vitality really does make a difference now

I honestly feel like they truly did balance things well. I assume that 75% of the cast will be viable in teams, 10% will be better then everyone else and 15% will suck, which is pretty good.

S tier (10% of cast that gets some really broken tech which doesn’t require much)
A & B tier solid characters with weaknesses that can be overcome especially with team synergy
C outclassed characters that are still lacking some things
D trash characters (can’t think of anyone in this yet but this was the old Lei Lei i’m not sure about her now haven’t heard much)

Equalized X-factor turned a lot of mediocre characters into god like anchors.

His DHC synergy is extremely limited but he is a B+ for sure.

time will tell. the only thing strider lacks imho is solid damage. but he does make up for this with great mix ups. if you’re an hiryu user like you claim then you should strider opens up nigga’s like he was yun from sf4. and now that i think about it, they did balance out his damage in conjunction with how many ways he have to land damage. and besides, you only need 2 good combos with strider to really kill most of the cast anyway. and with his absurd mix ups/tools that is not a very hard task to achieve.

and his resets are pretty good. like the ones off gram H or sat.

Thanks for the reply on Nova/IF people.

D_Dollars: Can you elaborate more on Strider’s mixups/resets? I’m still used to MvC2 Stryder and haven’t really given this version a fair shot yet

In all honestly i think the tier list is pretty balanced for the most part with the few exception of the god ability behind Wesker and Vergil. Wesker may have had some nerfs but i would hardly call them nerfs. His buffs make up for the lost and his play style has barely changed. He can still do most combos except for his command grab pick up.Hes still a noob friendly spam gun and tele then set up. Its easy! He’s sooooooo simple.

Vergil on the other hand is just straight up overpowered. Hes like Dante on crack. All of his normal are pretty safe and his forward hard is an easy and safe way into your combos. I see some Dante players making the switch because of Vergil’s noob friendly game play. I mean come on if someone can do a basic combo with Vergil with 4 bars and special into devil trigger than his 3 bar after the combo is finished. COME ON! He’s god tier. His teleports are cleaner than Weskers to.

Haven’t really played most of the older cast since I like the newer characters abilities and im really curious. My old team was Wesker, Deadpool, Dr.Doom. My new team however is Frank West, Nova, Dr.Doom.

Let me say Frank West is superb. His heavy low slide is amazing and is really safe. He also has a move like X-23 when you press heavy down in the air and it cause a down if it connects. Also if you can do Franks combo where he just used the hammer in the air to bring them up and air combo into camera it actually brings you lvl 3 really fast without having to use a assist. His shopping cart assist is broken since most players get confused and forget that his shopping cart isn’t a hit box.

Nova is a really versatile characters. He provides a really good 8 way air dash and mix that with heavy and you have one good combo opener. His ability to use his red health in specials and moves is really excellent than predicted to be bad. And his javelin is such a good tool to use to put pressure on your opponent. If the javelin hits you in the air it causes a ground bounce. Who doesn’t love a ground bounce? Nova has really good mix ups. I suggest trying him out!

Dr. Doom is basically the same in this one. I was already familiar with him for playing vanilla and some MVC2 tear anyways, yeah he’s still a good assist and a really good combo monster. I believe they made him a bit stronger.

You can still do most of the combos you were able to pull in vanilla, its just that this game is very tighter in combos. You have to actually do your inputs faster because the float effect from vanilla has been taken out.

Overall this game feels better than MVC3. The game play just feels smoother!

Vergil is not safer then his twin. He does however control far more space and doesnt care wut buttons you hit when he fights you. If the dark son of Sparda hits a button at the same time as you and your name isn’t Ghost Rider then you can expect to lose. Or Hulk, but he outspaces Hulk so thats kinda moot.

Vergil with meter is beast, but play a cheap Wesker with a solid assist just shooting guns at your meterless Vergil, you’re forced to take risks.

Strider isn’t overrated at all. His damage is low for a reason.
