Ok, my opinions change yet again.
Strider - God tier. Especially with Hidden Missiles assist. I was playing against my friend’s day 2 Strider online with strong Vanilla teams, and even though he dropped every other combo, I couldn’t even touch him.
Strange - Really, really good. Needs assists though, but he will be top tier in the weeks to come. He just has a high execution barrier, so it will take longer than normal.
Vergil - Isn’t as good as I made him out to be. His combos may be easy mode, but he has no reliable way of getting a hit. His teleport feels so slow, and that really hurts him.
Phoenix Wright - Good morning, Mr. Wright! Follow me, I found some new buddies for you. They’re waiting out in the lobby. You all have so much in common! Their names? Hsien-Ko and Arthur.
Rocket Raccoon - Oh snap, this dude is good! He has so many tools that I can’t even begin to say how wrong I was when I called him bad. I’m sorry, Rocky. If nothing else, his win quote against Ammy is priceless. Something like, “So, are you doing anything after this? Rowwr!” And one more thing. He can cancel his ground strings into Boulder Trap for a free frametrap. Stay godlike, Rocky. Stay godlike.
I think we’re starting to solve Firebrand’s damage issue. He can raw-tag to Doom at the start of some combos, who can OTG into loops of his nonsense. Or you can raw tag into Doom at the end of combos to do just a :h: OTG into Doom Time for over 900K. I’m sure these raw tags can be done with other high-damage characters who OTG into big combos or finishers, like Viper and Dante.
This could also be used as an enabler for Frank West, or other conditional characters. One touch with Firebrand = Level 4 Frank? Pretty good.
RayRay also figured out an XF1 loop that kills and is meter neutral or positive. More and more I believe that damage is never an obstacle in this stupid game.

He feels unplayable right now 0_o, no double jump for my air to air hit confirms, tridash gone, idk what to do.
K Junk that sounds really great because a good firebrand is so impossible to hit 0_o.
You don’t really need damage even as long as you have powerful offensive options and strong mix ups after. Which Firebrand can definitely reset and shove prioritized shit in your face often. He’s not really a character I would say has a terribly difficult time getting in especially with the right assists. I think he’ll definitely be one of the sleeper hits of the game.
He has like Magneto air dash M, M, H, S combos which you then fly down and hit them and then relaunch them according to the strategy guide.
Like one of the combos is listed as
c.L, c.M, s.H, qcb+S, air M,M,H,d+H, qcb+S, falling air H, land, immediate forward jump air M,M,d+H,S, land, c.M, S, forward super jump, air M,M,H,d+H,S, land forward dash, H smart bomb, super.
I guess with that you could use air M,M,H,d+H, qcb+S to set up air to air stuff now instead.
Apparently his new air dash can allow you to air dash down/down forward straight to the ground and do overheads from super jump height.
I think its only a matter of time before people find ridiculous shit with Firebrand. The best part about his offense is that he doesn’t even need to touch the ground to be effective. So unless the other team has an assist like Jam Session then playing by his rules is going to be a pain in the ass. He can convert damage off basically almost anything too… air throw, throw, instant overhead, low, instant overhead (blocked) into left/right 50/50, air loop reset dash under… etc.
He is difficult to control for me right now still but I think in a couple months people are going to get really annoyed with him. Chris G was tearing shit up with him on the 8 on the break stream last night.
I honestly haven’t felt like ive been in a situation with Firebrand so far that wasn’t neutral/in my favor.
as an avid vergil user who was an ex dante player. can somebody please explain to me why they feel vergil is even on the lv as dante? i think vergil is solid ( and much better with meter stocked ) but the lack of options he have really hurts. dante just have so much more going for him ( in paper and practice ) i can’t even see why people say vergil is better. i agree with yipes and jago atm when they say vergil is high mid at best.
It may work here as well in Ultimate. ;)
Seriously, Arthur is looking more and more awesome by the minute.
IMO, right now, he is Mid Tier and with time he could rise up to even Upper Mid levels. His buffs, power (yes, power) and XF bonuses are all excellent and he always had great assists and a godlike Level 3.
Arthur is fucking mad and taking no prisoners after leaving Hsien-Ko and Low Tier behind.
Most people here all agree Dante is better. Vergil is really good and will be effective for awhile until people learn how to play against him properly. Like be aware you can’t pres buttons 3/4 of the screen away.
Vergil is still one of the better characters in the game… he just isn’t the bees knees like Dante.
The people who couldn’t play Dante picked him up and think he’s godlike.
See, thing is about Vergil is is teleports are slow, unsafe normals, and his specials seem unsafe as does his maximum vergil. Vergil with meter to spend and an assist backing him up will be scary as hell. Dante has his BMC to cover his unsafe normals(a lot of them are - on block but BMC takes care of that).
Vergil IMO is being overhyped. He will be good but not the best.
J Wong himself said on the sp00ky stream that Iron Fist sucks and he’s not sticking to him. Also, he just got 4th in the big 2 tourney, so it’s not like he’s guaranteed of remaining top in UMvC3. If he insists on calling West nothing but a shopping cart he’s going to have a hard time in this game.
Just look at what happened to him AE, he picked Yang at first and then ended up getting bodied. And in the end he had to go back to Rufus whom nobody will consider to be high tier.
Jwong was running Iron Fist last in the stream I watched. Why he sucked. Put him on point with some type of assist to cover his approach and an anti air assist if he wants to use him outside of his assist.
Iron Fist I won’t lie, is nowhere near being the best out of the new chars.

It’s amazing how they buffed Dorm and he was already a big problem as it was. It’s most surprising that they buffed him than the little things they did to Wesker. Glasses and damage is cool and all but self left/right 50/50’s with a character who already had no problem doing that with assists? Guaranteed top 5 anchor easily now.
Vergil’s anchor abilities are said to be up there with Dark Wesker or possibly even better so even if he’s only mid tier you can always just durp him out as anchor and have him instantly shoot to high tier.
Let them… more smash for me.
