IM YOU GUYS BIGGEST FANS!!!
Whats making these watermelons Wiggle!?
On a slightly different note, Mike I think Im beginning to see what you mean when we talked about me playing Bison a little too lame. I won most of my matches when I played online a few days ago, but the one Bison mirror match I played, went well for a while, then I literally just got “out-Bipsoned”. Perhaps I should try a more defensive character like Guile seriously. However, Makoto is fun just figuring out how to get in. Its a nice change of pace, but my rushdown needs a lot of work to be good at her tho.
Guile is really cool, man. Despite what many say, playing lame is fun. lol It’s fun because you feel as though you have control of the match the majority of the time. Throw a Boom – react to the response. It’s not terribly exciting, I’ll give that. But I’ll take a sense of control over a sense of excitement any day in a game like this. Honestly, I like not having to constantly be barraging my opponent with rush-down. I like that I have a character that sort of sets the pace of the match. The best part is that in the event that Guile actually *needs *to move forward, he can do so without losing a Boom charge thanks to his Knee Bazooka. Furthermore, he can move backwards safely without sacrificing charge either using the Rolling Sobat.
Guile just fits me – period. If that makes me “lame” or “scrubby”, then so be it. As long as I’m winning I don’t care. :wgrin: I have a a great time using him, and I think the fact that people dislike how lame he is only makes me enjoy him more. lol I feel like there’s this stipulation with fighting games where one can’t possibly be having fun unless they’re all over the screen at all times and rushing down heavily. Guile is super old-skool: amazing projectile, amazing normals. He’s like the quintessential ST character, and it’s that “old-skool” feel that draws me to him.
If nothing else, Julian, you should pick him up as a back-up. He’s extremely useful to have as a pocket character, as he gives a lot of the rush-down characters trouble. Even though he got considerably nerfed in AE, he’s still very viable as I’ve been learning since picking him back up again this past weekend.
Personally… I reeeeeeeeeeally wish Wennie still played Guile.
He was the best Guile practice I had access to here in town. He used to be beast, too!! I honestly think he would’ve loooooooooooved Guile in SUPER. Even now in AE I think Mike would’ve enjoyed him. sigh I miss the good ol’ days…
Glad to see you back to your main, Mike. I need to stop talking shit about AE. I love the game no matter what yo. It’s the shit, and Capcom is already talking about patching Yun, Yang, and Fei Long. But I shouldnt have thought of it like that. I have to study the matchup instead of bitchin’ bout it. I didnt start doing that until the twins got put in the game, so I had a scurb moment. But Im still hype for SF all day, everyday.
Sigh I hope capcom just doesnt nerf yun/yang/fei etc cause honestly I dont want another boring super where everyone does no damage.
Just honestly return the game to something similar to Vanilla where everyone did damage. The main problem with super/AE is that for some reason they made only a few characters do insane damage (yun, yang, fei, makoto, etc) while everyoen else does dick damage and has no mixups.
Vanilla was the best SF4.
Meh, I’ll take a game where no one’s so over-dominant than others than see the triads all day online, streams, tournaments, and etc any day. Also, Makoto only does significant damage if her mix-ups work, which is a lot more straight-forward than mix-ups of the twins. The max you can do anywhere on screen is 252 and even then that requires to land a Karakusa, a 1-frame link, and a meter. Even her death corner combo which does 392 requires the said requirement on top of 1 more meter. I can name a lot of characters on top of my head that can do just as much with 2 meters in the corner, without the need to land or do semi-difficult links. Against characters that have average health, she’s gotta guess right at least 4 times following her post-hayate or knockdown options to get them to dizzy or kill them while they’re trying to escape you. Besides, she has no wake up what so ever so if ppl just time their meaty cross ups or jump ins correctly and safe guard it with OS, she’s just a sitting duck, unlike the twins.
you have a throw into ultra for great damage
makoto has one of the highest comeback factors in the whole game
and a 300 damage anti air
Yea, and that throw is the ONLY proactive way to lead into the ultra, unlike many characters that have safer and more options to lead into the ultra, so the damage is completely justified. As for the anti air, yea i do think it’s a lil too much lol although it requires 1 meter. But then again, if she didn’t have that, nothing will discourage players from jumping at her all day like in super.
I understand the start-up buff on those fukiages but damn, the hitbox was a little too much. When i’m playing AGAINST her i’m just baffled at how that thing hits sometimes when i go for a cross up on wake up. Think ppl should rather just go for non-cross up fierce/round house and cover it with OS. Much better to keep her in place and towards the corner.
I guess that’s where personal preference comes into play. I know James and Brock both prefer fighters in which there are at least a couple characters that are much stronger than the rest of the cast. They feel it adds a sense of “challenge” to the game. While I can completely understand the allure of such a concept, I honestly feel that Yun sort of takes it to a new extreme.
I played with both James *and *Brock the other night, and despite our absolute best efforts I think Brock and I [together] only took about 10 games off of James for the 30 or so he took off of us. :bluu: lol I literally can’t even count the number of times where he and I would have round-winning life leads on James, and some how he’d miraculously come back with one silly mix up and clutch it out. Now, I’m not saying that James isn’t a good player. Quite contrary: James is a *very *good player. However, I feel that Brock and I are no slouches either, and the whole night just felt like trying to fight up a vertical slope with a foot of snow on it and ice underneath. The moment we’d lose our footing for one split-second, James would just own the shit out us, and we’d tumble back to the bottom of the slope broken bones and all.
I guess my point is that it’s sort of in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I don’t see how being in perpetual block-stun is any better than trying to penetrate the Fortress of Boom. I mean, at least then you could actually fight back. Now SFIV has been reduced to Marvel Light where we’re stuck wondering, “Hmmm… Wonder where Yun’s gonna go this time.” Guess wrong? Tough shit. Sit back and enjoy a sandwich while Yun rapes 40 - 50% of your health like he’s getting paid to do it. lol
At this point, I’m just kinda like, “Meh…” This is the game we’ve been given, so I’m just trying to make the best of it. Yun’s not going anywhere, and complaining about it won’t make the match up easier. I’m not saying I agree [at all] with his design choices. I am, however, sick of losing, so I’m going to work on changing that. Otherwise… It’s gonna be a looooooooong wait for SFxT.
This has been my rant. Thank you for reading. :wgrin:
P.S. – James: your Yun haunts my dreams at night. Thanks a lot… lol
I understand your point James and yes we all want a fun game, however NO CHARACTER should be that strong that as soon as you pick him up you are that much better. I for one take pride in working hard with a character and winning. Thats the way I believe fighting games should be. If there was one thing I loved about Super is the fact that no one jumped to just one character. Everyone did their own thing. Mike=Guile, Brock=Blanka, Akuma=Dennis, Me=Sakura. Now everyone from what I hear plays Yun. I hate when I come in a game and I have to choice a character I dont really like in order to win(Even though Yun is my favorite character in SF history). When you come in to a Fighting game, the character you like regradless of what anyone says should be the character you should play. I dont like that someone says that you should pick this character if you want to have a good run in a game. We sort of saw that in Vanilla with Sagat. Everyone loved him until he got nerfed and then when he got nerfed and was balanced out more, everyone jumped ship. If Capcom does nerf Yun/Yang/Fei Long, I’m calling this now, we are going to see alot players jump off the bandwagon. Combofiend said that Yun is so powerful and the best player right now Daigo uses this powerful character, so why would you shortchange yourself and pick another character outside Yun? Whats the point of making 39 characters, when only three are so good? It makes no sense. Correct me if Im wrong, but the bottom line is NO ONE and I mean NO ONE wants to see the same character win all the time.
