Also are there any good forums I can browse for this game? I’ve lurked on the official forums but there’s so much dumb and crying there, it’s hard to find some solid info.
I’m around lvl 50 after playing ranked for a few days. I’m still playing Wanderlei Silva like 99% of the time lol. I’ve been getting a TON of TKOs because nobody fucking defends their body at all. Seems like everyone is so concerned about getting KOed via high kicks that they never block low. Muy Thai clinch knees are brutal and nobody bothers blocking/reversing the knees to the body. The only difficulty I’ve had thus far are against takedown spammers and transition spammers (when they are on top). I gotta get better at using the R stick to reverse takedowns. I dunno how to stop transition spammers though. I constantly block their transitions, but if they spam them long enough then they eventually get through. Guess I just need to get the reversal timing down.

We gotta play again, I normally don’t play heavy weight. Only because it seems to be the least competative division (on the game, not in real life.)

I’m guessing the higher ups were like “The current market isn’t receptive of a mma game right now”, then the numbers for Undisputed came in.
I was about to post that I hope that they won’t purchase the exclusive rights but then I noticed that UFC wasn’t mentioned as being involved. So then, MMA fighters that have yet to associate with UFC could be in this?
What makes you feel that way? I don’t have much experience with THQ.
I had an inkling that that was the case. I normally don’t play heavyweight either(yesterday was actually the first day I played anything other than career mode). Next time we play, I’m down for anything else(right now I’m partial to LHW and Welter).
Odds are this game will feature classic fighters, Ken Shamrock, Coture, etc. I’m sure Dana White won’t be allowing any of his currently contracted guys on another game. And EA has enough capital to pay those guys royalties. I actually see this as a good thing for the Undisputed franchise. Even if THQ had planned to rest on their laurels, now that you’ve got the Juggernaut that is Electronic Arts on your ass; you have to make a better game every year.
That’s probably EXACTLY what happened. It’s just going to be a watered down copy of Undisputed. EA only puts money into certain games. Everything else is a water downed version of something else.
THQ doesn’t make great games normally. Their track record is far from stellar and most games are just games that are based on something hot. Although I do admit that UFC is a fun game, I don’t think THQ will put in the effort to make it better in 2010.

I fought a dude yesterday who I pretty much knew was a quitter right off the bat. I looked at his stats when we were selecting our LHW fighters and he was 40-0-0 :rolleyes: Who does he pick? Rampage. What a surprise! He was decent at least, but in the 2nd or 3rd round (I forget) I get the dude gassed and put him in an armbar. During the second stage of it the game freezes…and you can guess what happens next.
Now I make an exception to the hatemail rule when someone quits on me, so I send the obligatory “LOL U MAAAAAAAAD.” He messages back “I’m still undefeated nigga” SERIOUSLY? THQ needs to wipe all the W/L stats when/if they patch this.
I tried my hand at the Welterweight division in ranked as well. I used the Karo Parysian dude cause I was seeing if Judo (and him as a fighter could) be competitive. Fuck no. EVERYONE picks Georges St. Pierre (GSP) who is fucking god tier in that division. Everyone. I fought 10 straight fights against GSP in ranked. Nobody played any other fighter. I thought the Rampage whoring was bad in LHW, but Welterweight is 100x worse :lol: I guess I can’t blame people for tier whoring since it happens in every game, but damn.
Haha, trust me. The 360 UFC community is pretty much the same. Lots of hate mail but surprisingly some good sportsmanlike mail too. I often get messages like “good fight,” “damn, so close,” or my favorite “gf, don’t know how to get out of muay thai clinch yet.”
I fought this one guy that had “11-fight win streak” as one of his characteristics or whatever. Lo and behold he picks GSP of course. But I looked closely at all of the welterweights’ stats and to be honest, BJ Penn is a great matchup against GSP. His striking is phenomenal, and his submission game is something like 10-20 points better than GSP’s.
I dominated him for a full 2 rounds, and I mean complete utter embarrassment. Countered every single superman punch, mounted him twice. Jabbed to death on the standup and a bunch of submission attempts on the ground. But of course… he disconnects on me at the beginning of the 3rd round.
Even though the St-Pierre vs. Penn II fight in real life was rather boring, it’s a great fight in the game.
Maaaaaaaannn I’ve tried trust me. But GSP is just too good in that matchup. He does everything better than Karo. His stand up game is far superior. His ground game is better as well. Plus I can NEVER submit this dude. You know how people bitch about how hard it is to submit Rampage? Its the same thing against GSP. I’ve had him pull off some totally bullshit submission escapes against me when he had no stamina whatsoever, and mine was still in the green. Then he turns around and submits me for the win. WTF? He was tech escaping them so that rules out a turbo controller. But still if he’s getting gassed and still escaping my submissions consistently then it’s a pointless match as Karo. You cant win standup. You cant submit him. GnP is like the only way you can beat him, but I swear this dude also pulls out consistent ground escape transitions while I’m pulling the stick to transition block.
Not only that stuff, but the Judo throws are too easily reversible and leave you in a horrible position afterwards. ALL of the trip throws from offensive double underhook can be reversed by your opponent by holding ANY direction on the right stick. There’s no guessing involved like the wrestling throws, so the judo trips are worthless. The only good throws are after the punch parries like you mentioned.
The only thing I have yet to try is simply spamming takedowns against him at point blank range, and hoping that I eventually get lucky and full mount him. Last night I took some depressing losses against average(relative to my skill level) GSPs. I’m not great at the game, but I woulda pounded these dudes faces in with any other good fighter. I’m gonna try the takedown spam method next time I play, but otherwise I’m gonna give up on Karo in ranked and play Thiago Alves instead. I can play Thiago very similar to my main in the LHW division (Wanderlei Silva) and he’s actually got a very good standup game, and BJJ transitions when in a defensive position on the ground.
Probably you’re best bet. This is gonna sound pretty “cheap” but, I resort to take down spam + strikes, then I let them up after their first successful transition. Sorry, GSP is just 2 damn good. Another tip, BJJ hammerfist from open guard beats strikes from the bottom, so I normally use hammerfist instead of normal punches. But that match is normally a rinse and repeat + hope for me.
Yeah, it’s hard. I never go for Double Underhooks. I keep the fight standing and keep looking for parry opportunities. If I parry a punch then I Judo throw them then stand back up. If I parry a kick then I stand up or I transition block for a bit and do some conservative ground and pound then stand up. I only play ground game when their stamina is down.
Yea I’m done with Karo in ranked. His Judo is just too gimp against GSP. The throws are too easy to reverse and the hip throw reversal leads into that rear naked choke which is damn near impossible to escape with half stamina or less. I already covered how stupidly easy it is to reverse the trip/sweep throws.
So I switched to Thiago Alves for a few games today and WHAT A RELIEF. Finally I can get back to hitting people and fucking up all the mediocre GSPs with the thai clinch. I’ve already beat some GSPs that would gave my Caro fits. It was nice to finally have a stand up game again. This dude is gonna be my mini Wanderlei.
Man some quitters are shameless when it comes to their record. I saw some asshole with a 225-5 win/loss record. REALLY? I sent him a PM asking him who the fuck was he fooling with that record He said his shit was legit too! Christ if you’re gonna be a quitter then at least have a good amount of losses on your record hahaha
omggg i’m getting really mad at the ranked matches in ufc because there are some people who just LB punch all day or Lb kicks…i counter it alot but jeeezzz it gets annoying at times.

Damn, this game is fun. The competition is ramping up it seems, I win less than when the game was just released. I also like that there seem to be a lot of different ways to victory, depending on your fighter, your opponents fighter and both of your playing styles. First I thought that Griffin’s sub game was the way to go, but Rashad’s and Rampage’s takedowns and slams rule too. And Muay Thai clinches can be deadly as well. But everything seems to have a counter. Great game.
Also a bit ironic is that the really tough fights that go back-and-forth and end up in decisions award less fans than a quick 'n easy victory. Not that I really care about those numbers, but still it’s funny to note.
