UFC 2009: Undisputed Thread

true, MT whips cause gassing quick.

I’m up for the league, gotta reread the rules again

What do you guys think of this game? Im thinking of getting it since I love MMA. Could someone win a game just by throwing high kicks or do you actually need strategy?

Yes you definitely need a strategy. High kicks will either get jabbed before you land it or will be countered for an instant takedown. There are a couple of gripes about the game, which you can read in earlier posts but overall you should get it if you’re an MMA fan.

THQ definitely needs to fix online though.

Lagfest to the max. One match, I couldn’t even move without it trying to sync.

Also, the computer gets the luckiest crap.

About stamina bar, the most “realistic” way would be if it was double-blind. Ppl know their bodies and aren’t surprised when they are gassed. Without the bar players play while calculating how many strenuous actions they made in a certain amount of time to manage their stamina(not realistic). With the bar, it’s more like something you just know(like a feeling). So you don’t fight while thinking, “I just struggled out of a Kimura, I’m gonna get gassed soon” and instead think “That Kimura took a lot out of me”. Unfortunately stamina isn’t double-blind so you can see your opponent’s stamina which is very much not realistic.

With all of that said, I can go either way.

The stamina bar is realistic IMHO. You can feel when you’re gassed in real life and the bar is a representation of it. It would be great if you could only see your own bar and not the opponent’s.

With that being said: HOW can you guys enforce this? Aren’t stamina bars an individual option or can a game host disable them. Otherwise people are going to use the bars.

Nah, it’s a personal choice. The other player will never be the wiser if you have the stamina bars on. I think the only things you can really change match-wise is the number of rounds, DLC characters on/off, refs and venue.

Stamina bar or not… pretty tricky. My buddy who is pretty much my rival prefers that we don’t have it on when we play on his 360, so sorta used to how many crazy things you can do before you get gassed. At least for lightweights, which tend to have higher cardio values thano other weight divisions.

Yes I suppose it does kill the realism since you essentially view the stamina as a combined super bar/life bar deal. If the other guy has more stamina than you, you would play a bit more cautious and try to burn him out with counters/transitions/slams and shit to even up. Of course there is still the lovely element of the “flash ko” which happens REGARDLESS of stamina.

So either way I guess for online you can’t really do shit. Having a stamina bar visible is a huge help. Exploitative? Maybe a little… but I guess if you view it as trying to take advantage of anything you can get your hands on, there isn’t much you can do.

If I do play on a buddy’s 360 though we play without it. Just for the sake of it being more of a fight sim and having a deeper feeling of the game.’

I like the idea of a league but I need to definitely work on my game before I hop online.

Im having a hard time with Transitions… but my Up game is pretty solid I think.

I had to post this:tup:

juts got the game today, any HAWAII/SF-ish peeps hit me up for practice anytime.

i just fought mac danzig and beat him. but is it just me or does he look like a bobble head doll?

Rioting Soul - My bad dude, I haven’t been ignoring you…but I’ve been by my old lady’s house, and her internet is LAG-tastic. So i didn’t even want to waste your time playing a lagged up match, but, I’ll be playing pretty much all week now that I’m back at home.

No problem. I’ll be on around 10pm EST.

Make that 11…

Rioting Soul, I’ll add you. Perhaps we can spar later

Cool, I’ll accept the next time I get on PS3 but I didn’t get UFC for the PS3 yet. It’ll have to be with the next paycheck.

sweet. I have logged some wins against fairly decent competition which is very nice. I main Frank Mir @ heavyweight, and as I’ve gotten better with the controls and defense/reversals I had a great ground war against a Nogueira o/l yesterday. The first round was pretty even, neutralizing each other’s stand up, and tons of transition changes/sweeps on the ground. In round 2, he caught me with a kimura and I just couldn’t get out (I always use technical escape) but it was a very satisfying loss, lol. I have an o/l record of 37-60 which scares ppl off, but win or lose the game is so damn fun in the pursuit to get better.

I’ll sign up for a league

If any of you want to fight my PSN is Matt2214

The only main I have right now is Griffin in L. Heavyweight.

But I messed around with Mir in Heavyweight and I like him a lot.

But seeing as how I’m a WWE fan I’ll probably main Lesnar and sub with Mir.

Man I just got fuckin juggled(well, not really)! I was playing against a Lesnar and he hit me with a hard punch that knocked me down. I was about to fall but he caught me with a quick blow to KO me before I hit the ground. The Lesnar player was surprised too.

EDIT: Not liking Cro Cop too much. I think I’ll switch to Frank Mir.
