The art from Eternal Challenge or Capcom Fighting Evolution will not
be in the Ultimate Edition. They are not related to our Street Fighter
series. However, the Sagat / Ryu cover is used in the book (the one
where Ryu is doing a Tatsumaki at Sagat charging a Tiger Shot).
There are many things in the Ultimate Edition that you will notice now
that you “may” not have before because of the larger scale of the book.
See how many cameo’s and inside jokes you can catch!
DarkStalkers and Rival Schools did not get an Issue 0.
Exalted did, and I believe there was a little intro in there.
However if you’re looking for really awesome character sketches
you definately wanna check out our Summer Sketchbook.
It seems I will be able to get a friend to pick up the Ultimate Edition hardcover for me, but several more questions before I drop down the $80 for one:
Are there any pages within the book which are blank and would allow for sketches to be done on them?
Will Alvin Lee and Jo Chen be doing sketches at SDCC? If so, how much will they cost and which days will they be available to do them? And will any priority be given to Ultimate Edition buyers? I don’t know if my friend would be willing to wait in a huge line for one, let alone two sketches.
Will the signings take place during the convention or will they all be pre-signed? I want to be able to get everyone who worked on arcs 1+2 to sign it (Alvin, Ken, Erik, Jo, and Rey for sure). How hard will this be?
Does anyone know which and if all, of the backup artists will be there? If so, where will they be? This includes the artists who worked on the Gamepro and Newtype stories.
** Will there be any other future printings of the Ultimate Editions? This includes printings in softcover and/or in normal size, etc…
EDIT: MORE QUESTIONS:
How is the paper quality on the Ultimate Edition? Is it better than the Devil’s Due quality or equivalent?
Ultimate edition will be 11.25" x 8.25" - For reference, what do the normal issues measure out at? I would guess 10"x7" but I don’t have any onhand right now as I am not at home at the moment.
Was last year’s Eternal Challenge hardcover the same size as the original paperback print? Just curious.
I still see last year’s Eternal Challenge hardcovers around online. How many of these sold at the SDCC last year and how many didn’t (not including the ones sold to retailers)?
Sorry for all the questions. I am asking since I will not be able to check out the Ultimate Edition in person before paying for one so I would really like to know if it is worth the $80 and hassle I will be putting my friend through to get signatures and hopefully sketches.
Would really appreciate it if anyone could answer these questions for me before the convention. I may have more later :).
You have me wondering what is in there, so I purchased the Sketchbook from Club Udon. I also purchased the SF Ultimate Edition, Akuma door poster, and finally issue #3 TorontoCon variant.
Wow! Lots of questions!
No problem bro, its a pleasure to help!
Ok cracks knuckles
a) There is a blank page in the SKETCHBOOK for an artist drawing. There are blank pages in the CON EXCLUSIVE ULTIMATE EDITION but they are not white, so the artists probably wont be sketching in it.
b) Alvin Lee and Jo Chen will both be at the convention. Alvin will be sketching, but Jo may not (notice I put that in quotations). She is our guest and is mainly there to sign.
c) The signings will be live at the convention for fans; they will not be pre-signed. It shouldnt be too hard to get everyone who worked on the STREET FIGHTER series to sign it. Mind you, the San Diego line ups are crazy, but be patient and wed be delighted to sign your stuff!
d) Not sure the convention is HUUUUGE and we got many guest artists from all over! I cant guarantee anything here youll have to do some hunting with that one!
e) Yes. The CON EXCLUSIVE is the hard cover Akuma special. The soft cover will be available in stores. September I believe. And they are both the same height & width as the Eternal Challenge book.
f) The paper quality of the Ultimate Edition is the same as the Hard Cover Eternal Challenge books, meaning VERY HIGH QUALITY! We wouldnt settle for anything less. I mean this IS the ULTIMATE EDITION right?
g) Uhhh… let me get a ruler a regular sized comic is APPROX 10.25 (height) x 6.75 (width)
h) If youre asking about the different variations of Eternal Challenge there are 3 versions. The first was a soft cover which used thinner paper. The second version is the hard cover which used thicker paper. The third version is a soft cover but uses the same thick paper as the hard cover.
i) Actually weve lost count. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously man, we sold more than we thought! I was just packing stuff at the warehouse the other day and doooood I am SO glad I have my copy because we are VERY close to selling out. In fact we had to take them off the MAIN PAGE of Club Udon because we have so few left that we needed to have most of them at the CON!
Hey thanks a lot for your prompt reply and answering my questions. What will be different about the soft cover Ultimate Edition? Am I right in saying that it will not be oversized? Will they actually be smaller than the normal comic? And they will have different cover art than the con exclusive? Will they be printed on the same paper? What will be the retail price on these?
About Alvin: How much will Udon be charging for sketches this year? The blank pages that you speak of, are they dark colored or something? Any way you may be willing to scan or post a picture of them? I’m just curious why an artist would not sketch on it if asked. Is it because it’s just not good paper to sketch on and the sketch would turn out bad? To be honest, if there was just one blank page for artists to sketch on in the Ultimate Edition I would have been sold, since I’m sure my friend would be willing to get me at least one. I can’t say she’d be down to go around and get signatures from everyone (who is not at the Udon booth) though.
Do you have any info on when Alvin Lee, Jo Chen, and REY will be at the booth? My friend is only going to be there for Friday and Saturday, MAYBE some of Sunday, but she is not going there for me, she’ll be doing her own thing. It would be helpful if I could give her a time range for when those three will be around so she doesn’t have to walk back and forth to find them. I assume the others will be there the entire time? I went to Wizard World Chicago in 2004 and Alvin Lee wasn’t there Sunday, and I was kind of disappointed since it’s supposed to be the slowest day of the con weekend and I wanted to get more sketches from him.
No Arnold Tsang this year? I never got a chance to get any sketches or signatures from him.
I can volunteer to answer a few of those questions so make it easier for sfd’s typing hands, hahaha. I have a copy of Previews at hand so I can give some answers to the softcover Ultimate Edition.
Its 448 pages, limited to 2500 copies and will be oversized (11.25" by 8.25") unlike the previously released digest-sized TPB. The cover presented is not Gouki but Ryu. Heres a tiny image of it: http://previews.diamondcomics.com/news_images/29935_63971_1.jpg
The SPR is $49.99 and should contain everything the SDCC version does, although Previews doesn’t mention the GamePro backup while the SDCC page does for the hardcover. As for paper quality and whether the GamePro backup is available, SFD should have the info which I’d like as well, haha.
As for Arnold Tsang, if I remember correctly, udoneko has said that he’s left UDON and moved on to other things.
i’m gonna miss arnistotle
it’s not like he was doing it for the money either. i remember playing him at sfII and he was pretty damn good. i wonder what his reasons were for changing jobs
Well, I just dropped $150 on Paypal and placed an order for the Hardcover, signed Sakura lithograph, and signed Alvin Lee Portfolio II. I would have liked to order everything, but I think this will be enough to satisfy my desires for now.
But Udon: When will the Raw Edition to #4 be available on your site? It’s supposed to be on sale at the show and available to be signed too, but it’s not on the Club Udon website. Also, is the Karin cover supposed to be the Holo-foil cover for #4 and Gen for #5, or is that mixed up? Having Gen be on #5 just seems odd…
Hey if anyone gets to speak to a Capcom rep at the con, please ask him or her what are the chances of getting the original Megaman into Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii with Solid Snake. Thanks in advance!
Btw if any SF fans will want to play some games, there will be an open fighting game room from Friday-Sunday in Room 18 in the mezzanine area. We’ll have a Street Fighter II: World Warrior machine setup with a bunch of consoles!
