I want this SO BAD.
x2, cant wait
:((
Hey, guys. Still chugging along. Unfortunately, the work Iāve been doing and will be doing for a while will go unnoticed, for the most part. Just lots of cleanup work and fine tuning which is necessary for a solid product, but doesnāt add much in the way of mind blowing features.
Toodles mentioned a while back that it would be cool to be able to access the CPS2 Test menu via controller. This is being implemented. Havenāt totally decided on the button combination, but likely just hold down all 6 action buttons and then mash Start + Coin. Not likely to accidentally do that during a match
Iām also Ironing out functionality on some indicator LEDs on each controller port.
A firmware bootloader will be accessible via the Test button on the system. To update firmware you will need to download my Windows bootloader application and the latest firmware file. Procedure will be as follows:
- Power down the UD-CPS2
- Attach the included USB cable to both your PC and one of the UD-CPS2 controller ports
- Open the Windows bootloader application
- Hold the Test button on the UD-CPS2 and power it up
- Verify the indicator LED on the connected controller port is flashing Red & Green
- From the Windows bootloader, select the desired firmware file
- Click Download and wait until complete
- Remove USB cable from UD-CPS2 controller port and attach to other controller port
- Repeat steps 5-7
- Power down the UD-CPS2
- Remove USB cable from both your PC and the UD-CPS2
As of now, there obviously arenāt any firmware updates because nothing has been released, but in the event that some issue is discovered or I decide to add more features, this will be a cheaper/faster solution than people physically sending me equipment. The UD-CPS2 is pretty well protected, so even if someone messed up and loaded a bogus file, it wouldnāt brick the unit. They would just need to re-load a proper file.
Also, itās looking like Artās Hobbies may be my source for the production face plates. Broken English did a fantastic job on my art files and the prototypes, but his CNC setup is way more time/labor intensive than a laser cutting setup like Art has. Iāll hopefully be sending some files his way soon for a small sample run.

Looking forward to it UD. I know the Super Turbo community is especially excited to continue testing the UD-CPS2 and hopefully be able to purchase them in the near future. Iāve got 2 thoughts:

You can just set the test function to pressing the 6 face buttons + start + select at the same time. Much simpler, plus I donāt see the need to have to mash start+select while holding it.

Is it possible to be able to reconfigure buttons at a momentās notice? Itād be a neat feature, if say, for example, you hold down start+select to lead you to a menu or window where you can simply press jab, strong, fierce, short, forward, roundhouse buttons in a row to quick config. Similar to what HDR did, except you can do it at the character select screen or within the first 10 seconds of the match.
I cannot wait for this! My consolized MVS, PGM and Atomiswave are looking for a friend.
How will firmware updates work for supergun use? Adding a small test button to the controller PCB?
Didnāt he just describe how to update the firmware for superguns in his post? Thereās a test button directly on the board.
Heh, I guess I misspoke. I forget that āmashā in the context of fighters is āpress repeatedly.ā Your suggestion is actually what I meant.
I actually had worked on something like this previous to EVO2012, but being as there was no indicator LED showing externally on the cases @ EVO, it was hard to tell if you were in config mode or not. At present, if you plug the controller in while holding at least 3 buttons, you automatically enter config mode. You then run through all 6 action buttons in the order you mentioned. At the press of the last button, config mode is exited and you are ready to roll. If you need to change the config again, you just unplug the controller and repeat the process.
Exactly.
Emphatic is not talking about UD-CPS2. Heās talking about discrete adapters that Iāve yet to post info on. They need a way to enter boot load mode as well.

Nice. Is there a visual or audio indicator to let you know that youāre definitely in config mode? Like a popup window or a chime sound or something?
No, something like that would require mucking with the audio/video processing, which is way more involved that is needed. Iāll just have an LED next to each controller port to indicate what mode itās in. I havenāt finalized LED behavior, but something like this would be likely:
Green = controller connected
Flashing Green = config mode
Flashing Red = something wrong
Red = something really rong
Flashing Red / Green = firmware boot loader mode
Off = nothing connected (or powered down, duh :D)

Amazing undamned! Loved the button configuration system! But what about pad fags that need 3K and/or 3P? I think this can be achieved by messing with the internals of the pad, but donāt really know how to do it.

You can do it with diodes. Or you can say no PPP/KKK like the SF2T Tournament of Legends did.
Quick update: got some new USB interface boards recently to try out a few ideas. At this point:
- Firmware update via USB cable works great
- LED indicators work great
- Button program mode works great
- Entering Test menu via controller (press all 6 action + Back/Select + Start buttons) works great
For the next week or so:
- Fudge some mechanical stuff regarding the LED locations
- Send out latest USB interface & Faceplate designs
- Test new Power Supply boards (should be here in the next few days)
- Play with some internal wiring schemes
There is literally always something to be working on, but I feel like Iām pretty much over the hump, at least.

Thanks for the update undamned. Sounds like the bulk of the work is already behind you, and youāre just working on polishing and fine-tuning the solution. We appreciate the hard work youāre putting into this.
Tested my new power supply board over the weekend. Works beautifully. Much more simple than my previous design. So pumped to finally cross that off my list

I love reading this thread. And I love saving money for one of these.
Finally figuring out my internal wiring/cabling paths. Looking quite sexy. I abhor hand wiring and Iāve gotten this conversion to the point where only power (6 wires) must be soldered by hand. Everything else is soldered headers and punch-down connectors. Itās looking like a legitimate system inside
Also, getting ready to send off a demo system to DGV to see if itās up to par for this yearās ST Games side tourney @ EVO. Would be mad hype to finally have this baby out where it was intended.

Any chance of selling your lagless usb converters separately? I still want to purchase your consolized a board. But lots of people are asking ke if they can use their custom usb stick/hitbox with my supergun. If you can make just the converters available for sale before the rest of the system I would definitely buy those too.
All part of the plan I did a run of a few different flavors a while back, but since then discovered some notable changes that need to be made. Priority right now is finalizing the consolized CPS2 details, but I foresee some filler time approaching that will allow me to re-design the separate converters. Lord willing Iāll have a bag of them to sell at EVO, but no promises. It will be no secret when they are available. Donāt worry, Emphatic, you still get some first

Worried, who me?
