UD-CPS2: Fully Consolized Capcom Play System 2

Soon! Arcade gaming with new school sticks ugh can’t wait…Any thoughts of doing the cps3 or naomi boards if possible?

Well, I don’t want to make a habit of doing those systems. I’m only focused on CPS2, but when I get my discrete adapters out, people can add PS3/360 support to anything they want

For my own experimentation, I actually have a hand full of old IBM mini-pc cases explicitly for CPS3 conversions. Already has the power supply, CD-ROM slot, USB ports on the front and a fan the blows right over the main CPU. Looks like it was designed for a CPS3

As far as NAOMI goes, it will require more creativity than the other systems because it will require a JVS decoder board (which people have already developed). Then my controller adapters would need to hook up to that. I’m thinking rather than try design a faceplate around the NAOMI’s connector panel, it might be best just to cover that up and do controller/power/video ports on one of the other sides.

Man don´t forget good old Wand in europe. I was lucky and could get my hands on a japanese cps2 ssf2x board. So i am looking forward to get one of your sytems!!

So, if I want to use my stick for ST games at EVO, will this support PS360+ ? Can I use USB or will I need a PS2 to RJ45/USB cable?

undamned don’t forget this guy wants to give you money  everything looking hype, keep up on the updates!!

I’ve not tested a PS360(+), but so long as you have it set up as if you were playing on an XBOX 360 or a PS3, you should be good to go.

Heh, cool beans!

So what you are REALLY trying to say is you HAVE thought about it lmao

Apologies if this has been asked, but does this current power supply setup support full-range (i.e. 240V)?

Yes! I’m only using high quality name brand supplies (IBM, Dell, etc.). No garbage “replacement” supplies that can be found for cheap around the web (and will likely burn your house down or break after a month).

Quick update:

  • Just got another rev of boards in for video, power, and USB. Building those this week.
  • Case milling jig is about 98% dialed. Now takes about 30 min. to mill a case rather than hand cutting/carving/drilling for half a day.
  • Art’s Hobbies is working with me on faceplates.
  • DGV is going to try to get some extra test time in at Super Arcade weekly’s.
  • I’m in the process of doing a small run of 10 units to figure out realistic labor time and costing for full production. These are all set aside for specific events/testers/etc.
  • Looks like 2 of these will be used along side the head-to-head cabs in this year’s ST Games @ EVO. Very exciting!

This is awesome man. 2 of my friends bought some ST boards at X-Mania Europe and I think they would be interested in this too now.

I got a chance to test this out at Super Arcade last night. It worked great on all the sticks we tested as far as I know.

I was wondering if the RGBS video output is the same pinout as a regular Playstation. I wanted to know if I can use a Playstation->SCART cable for video.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with how the prototype UD-CPS2 performed. I was amazed at the size of the thing, and I have no clue how he managed to fit all that in such a limited space, but kudos to undamned. Worked with a variety of sticks, with a few exceptions, and asides from a few minor glitches that only cropped up once or twice throughout several hours of heavy play, I’m pretty happy with it.

Yep!

Glad you guys liked it! I’m getting a list of outstanding controller compatibility issues from DGV, so I can work those out ASAP. Thanks for contributing to the testing!

Great news can`t wait for it !!!

I’ll email my notes to DGV asap. In the meantime, undamned, would you mind if I showcased a brief video on how the supergun looks like, as well as how to do button config and test menu? I’ve got a lot of people dying to see the actual supergun, as well as how to actually swap out different controllers and get them working in less than 10 seconds.

Sounds great! Just be sure to mention that it’s not a final production unit. Proper faceplates are in the works. Could call it a “preview” or something  Post a link here when you have it up!

I mean it’s not an official video. It’s basically just me filming about 30 seconds worth of footage showing what it looks like. But I’ll post up a link when I upload it. Looking forward to the final product. I’ve got a lot of buddies interested in purchasing this thing.

To clarify. They would have to send in their A and B boards to you to get the work done correct? Would they need to provide anything else?

I don’t need anything from the customer. The A and B boards are totally separate, just like in a cab. I only have to modify the A board and those I already have on hand. If I happen to run out of A boards, I’d consider a customer sending me one to modify, but the best situation is me having a bunch on hand so I can do them in batches.

Here’s the video showing off the undamned CPS-2 system. Sorry the video is a little bit short, and I don’t really go into a full explanation of how you’re able to plug in any stick and do the button configuration, but I added a lot more details to the video description about that.

So fear not. The UD-CPS2 System does exist, it does work, and performed very well throughout several hours of heavy play-testing.
