my roommate butts in and says “surprise him well. make sure you surprise him well.” i’m thinking ‘what the fucking hell are you talking about’, but i dont’ like talking to him much, so i kept silent.
neither of us responds to him, and he starts saying random shit like “holy shit…damn” the event ends there, and yet again i’m weird-ed out by him.

So today I go to zot zone and play a little CvS2 against the Crow: city of turtlers, who, for whatever reason, was donning a Street Fighter Anniversary Collection T-shirt.
Already I wanted to make him bleed.
I choose my characters, and he says, “DID YOU GO TO EVO” - Caps lock is a MUST when quoting that sonofabitch - and I nod, to which he asks “which game?” and I say, “DDR.” He sits there with a confused look and I grin. So, in his infinite arrogance, he puts sagat as his first character, geese second, and i think blanka third.
After I’m done beasting all over his face with Cammy, he angrily puts in a quarter and picks Sagat/Geese/Rock. Why Rock? 'cause he’s copying Allen, God damn it, i’m sure of it. He beats me, not by a huge margin, but i was being stupid with Sakura, so boo me. I come back, and utterly annihilate him in front of his DDR buddies with sak/cammy/geese (fuck you to those who comment on my CvS2 whoredom).
And then it happens.
Next match, I have A-sak up, and I have meter. I jump, and he yells “ACTIVATE! HERE IT COMES” and I do, 'cause, well, he’s an idiot and not holding the stick when he says it. But, get this: THE FUCKER DOES IT AGAIN! So, next time he yells “Activate!” I throw him. Then I throw him again. and Again.
Put blatantly: A-sak turned into K-'Gief in a heartbeat.
He walked away pretty mad. The combo exhibitions ended, and yet again I am “stupid-ed out” by him.

EVO log, Day 1
waddup yo, here’s evo from my perspective…
pomona is about 30-45 minutes away from where i live, so getting there wasn’t so
bad…i left at around 3pm in order to make the 4pm registration deadline in time…only later would i realize how much of a joke that schedule was…
so anyway, while i’m waiting in line for 2 1/2 hours, i happen to notice that the guy from GSN who was interviewing random people around me obviously didn’t know anything about fighting games…“so do you like using a girl avatar to fight with?” ummm yeah…he interviewed several people; hopefully the one that makes TV won’t be the one where he “teleports” behind the guy…ehehe…
anyway, once the line reaches the inside of ursa major (the tourney hall), it becomes even more stagnant. The only reason the line was moving foward was because people were becoming impatient, and i guess squeezing together was their way of making progress…some fool kept hitting me in the head with his hat…
so yeah, i got tired of it, and told my friends that waiting like this with my stick in my hand was bs, so i left to the games room…which is a pretty dope arcade; the one where i work at pales in comparison to their double cabinets of the most popular fighters, their really nice high-resolution screens (for some reason, they are a lot better than the ones at zot zone), p360s, convex buttons…ahh man…even their stools were nicer…eventually, after losing a few games, one of my friends calls me up and tells me that they are about to get signed up…so i make my way over there, and i wait for about 20-30 minutes more…
pretty long story over a registration process, but i felt like this seriously dampened the day…it was the most unpleasant part about evo IMO…
so yeah, all that to get a name tag (which was better looking than last years, i guess) and a place in CvS2…anyway, i head over to the console room, and it looked like the majority of TVs had 3d fighters…and some marvel, which is fun to watch, but I stopped playing that game a while ago…I head back into the games room and play a few more matches, this time getting a nice 4 win streak…
during these casual matches, i happened to notice that a lot of people weren’t prepared for Todo…and I also noticed that almost everyone was using Sagat, so I decided to stick with my original team of C-sak/todo/blanka for the purposes of suprise…and also cuz my sagat sucks haha…
I watched a few MvC2 marvel matches…i was rooting for ytwojay to be on SoCal Team B, but apparently he had to play sin, and he already called it gg…he lost, and had to play phat_toi later…that guy is pretty good with ironman, and on DC pad, too! lost that one too…oh well, next year, jay =)
The highlight of the day was watching VegitaX’s rouge play. Pretty inspiring stuff, considering he was pulling off some sick resets and tick into kiss-grab stuff…i probably shouldn’t mention the names of the guys he beat in order to avoid controversy…but in any case, I think he deserves some respect for utilizing a non-top-tier so well…
I went home a little early (1 am) so that I would be ready to drive my friend Dentron to his Tekken matches in the morning…

EVO log, Day 2
So I arrive at 11:30, and not suprisingly, Dentron’s bracket was delayed…for hours…so we watched some CvS2 matches. We saw Dan (c-ken/ryu/sagat) from Japan beasting on some not-so-good guys with hadouken, shoryuken…ehehe…wish I had that bracket. Speaking of brackets…
I checked mine out, and it turns out that I gotta face John Choi. All hope of advancing beyond the round robin pool suddenly vanished…I kinda hoped to be playing people from “around the world,” but instead I get to play freakin John Choi…he kills me everytime I go back up north, and now I gotta lose to him at a tournament…Jason Wilson was also in my bracket/pool/whatever, and i heard he was an OG player who was probably good at CvS2 as well…in any case, I didn’t know who the other players were…some other guy from CA (3 CA players!), and some guy from NY…I guess it didn’t look too bad at the time, so I was hoping to get 2nd…
So Dentron plays, and gets 3rd in his Tekken Tag pool…we headed out to Diamond Plaza to get some pho and Life Plaza boba…man that boba is good. They use real fruit instead of just syrups, and 4.60 for 2 drinks is pretty dang good for the best boba in socal…later we went to arcade infinity to try out those lollipop sticks…hehe…
Anyway, 15 minute drive back to Cal Poly…I head over to the casual room, and I got in a few games with popoblo…you’re pretty good, man; nice job beating jamal in that one casual game…I played against Jamal as well (p-groover on CvS2 Norcal Team A), and in one game I got to his last character. That was my victory for the day…
I noticed that a lot of people had the agetec sticks…I guess i’m not the only fan of lollipops. lots of interesting sticks there, like this one stick that had the garbage pail kids stickers…I used to have a bunch of those…
so anyway, there weren’t too many people using the TVs for CvS2, so I brought my Dreamcast to fix that…eventually there was a line at my console, so as I was waiting for my turn, this really loud/obnoxious guy was like “WHO’S NEXT???” I was like “I am…” and he was like “oh”…maybe he was trying to be funny? He was pretty consistent with the loudness, too…screaming stuff like “DO SUPER!” or “720 that whore!” when my maki-using friend was playing…
when I played against him (I think his name was philith, or something like that), it was pretty cool, cuz I got to lay the smackdown on him…haha…i dunno why he was using k-honda, but it felt like training mode…that’s all I will say about that…he kept dissin his friend (Ever?) while he was playing against me…I guess it was good practice since my bracket was coming up soon. Seriously…a lot of the guys I played against did not know about Todo’s jab wave having frame advantage (reversal super just means free command grab for me), or anything about him really…I even used that retarded slide kick of his a few times…
Later that day, I played against this guy’s cammy, and I kept losing my first 2 characters to that whore (cammy); I still don’t know how to fight her…I talked with him afterwards, and it turns out that he was Baltimore Chun. I was like “oh hey, you were the guy on the DVD for 2k3,” and he was like “yeaaaah…im gonna change that image heh heh” (think of Ohnuki ehehe)
Anyway, I head back to the tourney room, and my first opponent is John Choi. I was pumped…I had the mindset of winning…my friends were cheering me on, and S Clubber gave me some advice on how to beat him (which I think I’ll save for now…); basically, I had to think “no fear”…
I think what made my friend lose those marvel matches was the fact that he went into the battle thinking he was gonna lose. I wasn’t gonna go into this with a black veil, so I fooled myself into thinking that I was gonna beat him…
His ken totally destroyed my first 2 characters (so much for using Todo as a surprise), but my Blanka finally put him away in what was probably the funnier/dumber moments of the day…
somehow i got his ken dizzy, and he had about 1000-1500 or so life left (we’re talking b&b combo to finish him), so I roll next to him (to maintain my charge), and I do c.fierce into lvl3 super. :lol: I heard some people in the background saying “wtf” and some other stuff…I thought it was pretty funny…but at the same time, I really wanted to make sure I didn’t miss an opportunity to get rid of his first character…
Anyway, his guile sonic hurricaned my slide…nuff said…the interesting part was that it connected not because of the slide (I did it from pretty far away), but because I foolishly whiffed a c.mk afterwards…gg…
Next, I played against Baltimore Chun. So THAT’S the guy from NY! How weird…I was playing him a lot in casuals, and I didn’t even know I was gonna play against him…Great…I never beat him in casual…I wasn’t gonna beat him in the tourney…my chances of making it out of the pool were gone. I dunno why I picked the same order I picked in casual, cuz my sakura doesn’t know how to fight cammy…in fact, I was about to get OCV’d by him, but I managed to land Blanka’s crossup super to get to his second character…heheh…don’t hate =
I noticed that I gave away a lot of openings for him to s.roundhouse xx super me, but he didn’t pounce on them…there was an aura of turtling that I got not only from my matches, but from other people, too…I guess people play more defensively when the stakes are high…I think I should have done that more.
So I lose to him, and I also get totally owned by this S-groover and his ratio 1 cammy…it was all downhill from there…the guy was pretty good, but I also kept missing my super…imagine the frustration when my Todo lands a command grab and does c.fierce xx nothing.
In fact, the only time I landed it was when I was playing Jason Wilson (the guy with the arcade-type setup for his stick), and even then it didn’t matter…I lost that one too, making my record 0-4
Oh yeah, before my first match, I accidentally walked in front of Mopreme’s CvS2 tourney match…he was like “could you not walk in front of the screen?” Ahh I felt bad…even though I got lucky, since I walked in right when a character died…Mopreme, if you’re reading this, again, I am sorry…I didn’t know what I was thinking…=\
My friend Allen also didn’t make it out of his pool…though he did manage to beat Mopreme…ehehe…there was a pretty close match between him and psychobetaduckdown…both had no life left, and psycho did the grenade super with k-rolento…i think my friend was trying to JD it with his k-blanka since he jumped in…oh well…
The rest of the day, I played some CvS2 matches in the games room…I managed to beat some people from back home in the bay area (i think it was topknot and his friend?), gg guys…almost had me with that s-groove madness ^_^;
Then I saw Justin Wong beasting on people with the weirdest teams…like gambit/morrigan/cyke…or commando x3…that guy is too good…
Anyway, Jay didn’t make it in his bracket either…so much for team 949 =(
Oh wait, Kaising made it into losers…so that was cool (for MvC2)…so did Wes…
My friend Double Repukken had to play against Raoh in 3rd strike…heh…if it wasn’t for him and combofiend, he would have made it out of his pool…=\
I had a craving for boba, so we left at around 2 am to get some more from Life Plaza…that place is too good…except for maybe their rumored discrimination, but I’ll get to that later…

If I had more time on my hands, I’d be an anime scrub, as sad as that sounds. Even so, the Japanese have moved onto #r, so that’s probably where I should start.
John: Nice log. =] Too bad the 949 failed on numerous occasions during Evo.
I’ve decided to use Urien in 3s. Chun is a really boring character to play/watch. Same with Ken, but to a lesser degree. I’m probably going to use Ken to get used to the game [I’m pretty unfamiliar with the 3s engine], but after I get a grasp of the game, I’ll switch over to Urien. I was thinking about Yun, but the appeal of unblockable Aegis Reflector was too great. If I give up on Urien, I’ll probably try to learn Yun, or maybe even Makoto. Speaking of which, Makoto seems a little too inconsistent for me, which is surprising, considering I’m a Magneto player. From what I’ve seen, Makoto is the Magneto of 3s. When she wins, she can win fast and hard, but blocking/guessing correctly seems to beat her, and I’m not up for [more of] that. All of the other characters seem boring [no offense to Chris, Eliot, etc.], except for possibly Dudley. So yeah, I guess its Urien.
Time to learn charge partitioning and unblockable setups…
Can anyone direct me towards some helpful Urien videos?

Yeah, I didn’t go because I was having too much fun with a girl this weekend, but last year I had to play INO as my first match in 3S, after the really close match(sacrasm), Abel finished me off.
BTW, I’m still waiting for you, Abel, to give me 3S for the dreamcast, but I know you’re to scared of my superior skill(again sacrasm)… I live in CV now so you guys should drop me a line if you’re near campus.
