UCI Zot Zone/OC Thread part 2

Good luck to all on your fuggin finals… study hard, mash harder

man, i tried playing at zot today, and the cvs2 sticks are soo messed up. jab on the 2p side rarely works. I know most of this has been bitched about before, but now i am convinced that my POS 8-way ultimates are better than the crap they have there.

I guess i never really got the real reason, but why is it that its such a pain to get better sticks/buttons in there? how did the p360s get approved for the 3s machine? blaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

btw: gl on finals everyone, fuck them couches

“Why did you slap me?”
"'Why’d you hit me."
“That was weeks ago mothafucka”

dude…square one!!! ahhhhhh I solved it!!! >_<

but yeah, the cvs2 sticks are really jacked…1p side has crappy stick, 2p side has crappy buttons…I couldn’t do my S-groove cancels, not even the point blank infinite lvl1s…=\

so yeah, I was planning on another tourney on the Saturday of 3rd week, but yeah, these sticks need to be fixed badly…

as for 3s, here’s the story:
Primetime chose to put their own 360s in there. Who knows why??? It may have been 360s from the start, but I don’t have concrete info on that. The 360s that were donated to us still lie in the shelves of zot zone.

the buttons…now there’s a weird story. I asked my boss, Alice, if she could call Primetime about the buttons. She gives me the smiling face and everything; the day the technician guy (Ron) was there, he told me that Alice said “Don’t put them in.” At first, I was like “ok, who is this a-hole” cuz Alice said she would call them about it. Later, Alice comes upstairs and is like “ok, the Primetime people are gonna put it in next monday”…so then, I take responsibility for being there the whole day until they get put in. After she leaves, Ron recevies a phone call from what I presume is the head-honcho, and he gets the ok to put in the buttons on monday. I overheard him talking on his cell phone, and he said “but Alice said not to put it in…oh, it’s all good? ok then”

Unless Ron was playing some sort of meta-game with me, I believe he was telling the truth…meaning that my boss isn’t very upfront with me =\

Fortunately, Ron was like "what the heck, lets put them in now!"
So there ya go, 3s players…it’s been overdue, but at least it finally arrived.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww I need to stop checking these forums all the time…NEED TO STUDY :frowning:

I’m going to steal the mvc2 cabinet and put new sticks/buttons in myself. Then, being the ninja I am, I’ll sneak the cabinet back in, and it will be good game from there.

Good luck on your finals, everyone. Sadly, I managed to fail one of my classes this quarter. Next quarter = no more SRK/aim if I can help it. :frowning:

Oh yeah, and does anyone play Smash Bros. Melee here? Eliver said he plays, so we should all schedule a SSB:M session or something. Gotta prepare for Evo. =]

The jab on the two-player side is completely out, now. For cvs2, I mean. Goddamn, those buttons could go for a makeover, those 3s ones that got put in recently require only small amounts of pressure, I hate having to mash that shit down.

Jay: I think disavowing aim or srk for an entire quarter is not the way… it’s like quitting cigarettes cold turkey. Possible, but not likely. What I do to remedy a situation like that is take fewer units and hope I can get better grades to compensate, then fill in during the summer.

it’s like trying to quit cvs2…
i’ll play ssbm and rock you all with peach and game and watch!

square one is dope shit yo!! even dr. b commented on my av.

so just for clarification: Primetime (owner of cabinets/PCBs) says that we can’t modify their machines without permission. There is a set of p360s in the back of the zz that arent being used. Now im sure someone has probably already asked this at some point but i missed it and am a dumbass so i apollogize in advance, but why can’t a phone call be made to primetime to ask about p360 installation?

again sorry for being ignorant

and a ggxx session. :stuck_out_tongue:

Cold turkey

Does the phrase originate from the fact that it takes little to no time/effort to prepare a dish of cold turkey?

Or from the fact that sudden withdrawal from many drugs(opiates) leaves you in cold sweats with goose bumps?

I’ve heard both.

Anyway…now that I’m finally out of college, I feel qualified in giving advice on the subject. In my experience, you will get good grades if you follow this three-step strategy:

  1. Go to every lecture
  2. Get lots of sleep
  3. Take good notes(this is what steps 1 and 2 are for)

I know it’s not easy to do or anything, and maybe it’s already obvious to begin with, but the few quarters I did this I got straight As. I also made a few believers out of some people whom I tutored through LARC when it worked for them, as I always tell them this strategy every quarter.

Also, Eliot, the only people I know who have successfully quit smoking did so cold turkey. I heard the results of a study a year or so ago providing evidence that cold turkey is actually the best way to quit smoking, statistically speaking. My own experience proves that it is also the best way to quit a lot of other things. Addiction is often physiological(esp. with nicotine), and I’m not downplaying that fact, but I think cold turkey is the best cure for the psychological side of addiction.

With restraints in the equation, the sky’s the limit.

Matt: the P360s can’t be put in because, according to the tech guy, “they’re more expensive to replace.” Since that’s BS, we just constantly ask 'em to put the sticks in until someone listens.

An alternative theory is with a “startling” revelation that John gave me a few weeks ago about the future of the ZZ. Bulldozer > ZZ. :frowning: More than likely, primetime doesn’t want to invest the effort (and not money, since the sticks are already waiting to be installed) because they may not even include an arcade section where the new ZZ’s gonna be. Who knows.

You’re probably right, but I think taking some extra units and cutting down on srk/aim is more of a personal goal for me. I’ve been making up excuses for my poor grades for so long that its about time I find out what I’m actually capable of.

oh, so its too expensive to have donated p360s installed and taken care of when we have them in the 3s machine already?!?! blah

So tell, me, have all of the people you know to have quit cold turkey done it successfully the first time? I use my brother as an example: he cannot quit though he tries this method. Not only are you off-topic but you’re being like streak. Asshole.

So Jay, you could also replace your current computer with a 486 capable of internet access (on a 28.8 modem). This way, you’d only be able to view text files with ease, meaning your course websites and emails. And have someone punch you everytime you look at zz or the ps2. You’ll develop a fear of “getting hurt” even thinking about games, and before you know it, you’ve taken away all options except studying!

I like to eat cold turkey on the day after Thanksgiving.

My idea about the whole bulldozer > ZZ theory is that in return ZZ people’s grades then > their grades now. Well maybe mine at least.

Oh and for Eliot:
“Bori-gah…AAAAAHH!”

If you make it SSB, instead of SSBM I’ll teach you something.

i challenge you all to a pokemon dUEL!

So what’s everyone doing now that finals are done and buried? I’m going to be sitting back this weekend, thinking about the tens of thousands of ways that I’m NOT going to be owning people up at the SBO quals :frowning: So if anyone feels the need to mope along with me, we can play a little 3s/CvS2/and OMG puzzle fighter.

Let the best mexican 3s player, in the tiny sector near uci, show you how to play

Finals are not over yet :stuck_out_tongue: u would think that since I had three on monday I’d finish early but I have one on friday:mad: Anyways after that I’m mos def gonna hit TJ for some IforgotthatIfailedochem drinking. Probably gonna watch Emery and The Beautiful Mistake next thursday at chain reaction if anyone wants to come with. Gotta do something to kill the time til I can play again.

Someone was asking about the origins of the phrase cold turkey and I remembered FHM havint a “burning questions” segment about it. They said, “The phrase has its roots in the attractive appearance of someone trying to kick a smack habit, but it’s used to describe any form of abrupt quitting. When a heroin addict suddenly stops using, the blood is direcetd to the internal organs and the muscles under the skin contract. The skin then turns white and is covered with goose bumps, resembling the flesh of a cold, plucked turkey.” There you have it.

Anyone up for some 3S tomorrow? What time does ZZ close? Oh and Allen, go here and watch the first video featuring RX. It should be the sixth video from the top. Model your Ibuki after that. Blocking rocks.

Cheers.

thanks, that vid helped a good amount
