UCD MUGA thread

Boooo!

I’ll just show up to record matches then.

dat sounds a lil better. and marty, u should definitely rack up sum pre-registrations going on beforehand for the tourney.

I’ll just show up to collect  lol jk

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it – 2/3 double elim will take too long for a friday night :’(

:lovin:japanese single elim format:lovin:

Also, the SF4 Nationals Tournament finals video is up :O!!!

http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1221345_1124.html

Man, fool just wins the national tourney and he just sits there like nothing happened haha. Crazy, I’d be jumpin around high fiving strangers for sure.

Also - Low tier marvel is the shit.

The campus union tourney’s are planned out until March 5th which the game is TBA. I can send some emails to see if that could be set to HDR. Otherwise, I volunteer my house for a tourney sometime. I only have one stick for my PS3 so that might take some figuring out though.

Today was one crazy ass Bison Tuesday, it’s a shame that I lost my voice so I was talking like a heavy smoker. More Low tier mahvel tomorrow?
Gotta have teams that rhyme: Dan, Iceman, Morrigan

Dude when March 5th rolls around SF4 will be out. We can roll out some PS3’s / XBOXs and some TVs and run a GIGANTIC SF4 tourney. I can right now volunteer a PS3, 2 sticks and a TV.

It would pack Griffin Lounge for sure.

I say BYOC is better - It prevents shit from getting stolen. Smash tournies are BYOC and everyone seems to be fine with it.

I still kind of want to do meetups. All of us who post here should come (Yes, that means you too, Sacramento people eg Popo and friends) and we can get this going. I don’t have a living room anymore, so I can’t host. I did once and I wish Icould do it again. I can provide my 360 and my TV though. If we get this going, I’ll bring my hdtv from home. Also I have two PS2 sticks if that helps any. And I could always bring an Hrap2Sa from home.

David said he could host. Cameron also looks like he is willing too. So if I go and bring up my stuff, I’ll have two TV’s and a console. Another TV, and we can have three games of Street Fighter 4 going on at the same time. Order some Woodstock’s pizza and bring booze and we’d be set for a night of fighting games.

We gotta do this at least once before everyone eventually graduates.

editing time fuck yeah: I also like the Griffin Lounge idea. Tourney sounds like it’ll be successful. You can most likely come Popo since at 5 dollars, it would probably be about ten or so people (not that big, so it should be faster) and you could still collect :stuck_out_tongue:

First of all, this was an awesome night of low tier marvel!

Second of all, it looks like I won’t be able to make it to the tourney this Friday, since I’m having friends over. So, I wish everyone luck on Friday!

However, I’m down for a night of fighting games (and booze)! :looney:

zeroschneider…looks at avatar
rufus, ken

edit: Sorry, Alex, what’s up? I wish I knew how to play Marvel lol. I’d be down for some low tier fights.

Hey Dan, if I set the master to one token, will the slave also be set to one token, and will I have to reboot the cabinets for the changes to apply?

I’m doing pretty good, just recovering from doing an essay :wasted:

I’m not sure how often people are gonna play low tier Marvel, though we should have like… Low Tier Tuesdays or something

Tuesdays are reserved for Bison:

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Any estimate of how long the tourney will last friday? It is friday, as well as the birthdates of two people i know, so i can’t go late into the night

Oh man today was pretty fun with that low tier MVC2. Man not sure if I can make it to this tourney. Someone better represent either Chun Li Or Viper there!

Alright I really don’t understand the complaints/concerns. A 5 dollar entry fee is a small fee which goes back entirely to the winners. I know the majority of us spend about that much playing daily, so I don’t quite get it. I realize that you will have to pay for tokens as well, but assuming the winner plays every single round of every match and needs to play the championship match twice, he will still make around 45 bucks (assuming a 16 man double elimination tourney).

In 2002 the entry fees for our tourneys ranged from 5 to 10 bucks for 3 year old games. The games area took 20 percent of the winners pot and we charged tokens per play.

It just seems to me that everyone is being a bit unrealistic.

Ram- you are more than welcome to set up HD remix tourneys down in the games area. In fact I would encourage it. However, I would hold off for this week, and I will get enough wiring together to get the game to display on the projector screens. This might increase other people’s awareness of the game too. If anyone (Jack?) wants to put together a TvC tourney that would be cool too.

I would recommend that we try and stay away from the Griffin lounge stuff, and keep everything down in the games area. In fact I still don’t entirely understand why the SSB stuff isn’t held down here.

Marty- the slave machine will not go to one token, for whatever reason this board does not change. So it will be 3 tokens on the back and one on the front. I suggest that the front player give the back player one token prior to playing the match to even it out…

I know I don’t speak for everyone, but here’s my take on it. I have no problem with buy-ins that go back to the players. The reason I wanted to make it so cheap initially is I just want a ton of people to play. My main gripe is it kinda feels like the players are getting hosed in how much the extra the MU would be taking from us (if it was still 3 tokens per side per player) for this tourney. In my perfect world, everyone plays fighting games and our tourneys have hundreds of people and we get sponsored by Red Bull who has a booth with chicks in skimpy shirts giving out free cans of SF4 Focus - a new collaboration energy drink by Capcom and whatever shitty company in Thailand that makes Red Bull.

Back to the point and concerning the token issue, I don’t see why the MU should get more money than what they charge for normal play. It will cost the MU nothing extra on their end to run this event and it’s not like the MU is the only party that will be putting in time and effort to make sure the event is fun for everyone.

People from the community (ie not getting paid for their time) are willing to do a lot to build the Davis scene (on a personal note, I hate the word “scene” but I can’t think of anything better). If you read back in the thread, people were volunteering to help advertise, help run anything, whatever. David is going to record the matches and put them on the internets for people to see. If things blow up at the MU and random UCD scrubs start hearing that they can claim internet glory if they get good at SF4 you can bet that you’re going to see more of them in the MUGA. If anything, tourneys like this should increase the overall revenue of the MU.

This should be a mutually beneficial relationship. The players get to have fun playing through a tourney and the MU gets more people playing on their machines. We’re both putting time in to make this work, so why charge us extra?

So yeah, “too long, didn’t read” is an acceptable reply to this post.

If there is interest for a future TVC tourney I would gladly run it.

If you wire things to projectors in the future, you’re going to want to split the video signal from the Wii, one to a regular TV and then one to the projector. Projectors have to upconvert composite signal to its native resolution which generates lag. I know this is true for composite signals, but I’m not sure if it’s true for HD signals (PS3, 360s, etc).

here is my 2 cents on the $5 entry fee thing!

  1. its a standard buy in amount for a tournament game

  2. if possible change the machine to single token play for sf4 for tourney play ONLY! (if this will be even be possible i dont know but it sounds fair to me.)

good shit sounds great just let me know. Yeah i would like it to be at least at the arcade as well.

Welcome aboard to the forums Huy and Roy!

On to the matter of the tournament:
The slave machine seems cryptic, so until it can get figured out i say we just bite the bullet for the moment and pay the 4 coin total per game. The MUGA does need to make some sort of profit since all the tournament buy-ins will go directly back to the players. It is a business after all, not some charity, and having a buy-in gives that extra risk thrill that should be associated with tournaments.

If someone can and is able to record and upload matches, that would be beyond awesome.

My only concern is some of the buttons are starting to get iffy. If it isn’t too much to ask, can someone look at the medium punch on the rear unit and the fierce punch on the front unit?

I’ll most likely be there, since friday nights are devoid of life untill 10pm or so.
